1. Buy it on a 90% sale, 2. Learn how to mod the game from Youtube, 3. Play one of the best 3rd person tactical shooters out there, before Ubisoft only know how to make slop. 4. Silently worry that in probably a year or two from now the game will be delisted/unplayable because Ubisoft will be bankrupt and will leave no accessible way to make the game work without access to their servers.

HELL YEAH - Made for solo players - Super high replayability (can replay almost any mission) - Various playstyles (stealth, guns blazing. john wick) - Fully customizable gameplay experience to feel more real - Cool and satisfying CQC takedowns - A certain someone who wants to tell ya sum'in OH NOOO - Poor character customization (particularly the character appearance) - World does not feel that alive - Requires constant wifi connection even when played solo VERDICT - 8/10

Wish we could get more amazing games like this, but made by someone other than Ubisoft. Scratches my military rpg itch.

Long-time fan of Ghost Recon, since the OG days & Island Thunder. When this game launched, it had an identity crisis. Ubisoft being Ubisoft, saw logic in trying to further homogenise their franchises, which meant Ghost Recon got the "Division" treatment. Not a good fit for a GR game, they already had a franchise serving as a looter shooter, so this approach served only to harm Ghost Recon's image. The sought to rectify that with the introduction of "Immersive Mode" and numerous parameters you can tinker with to make the experience difficult, from damage received, to AI detection, to minimal HUD as well as injuries not being healed by syringes or being able do deploy magical vehicles from a bivvy. In many ways, this worked for me. The game had finally found some footing. It felt good to play, enemies died fast but would react fast unless you prioritised the right targets, drones if left on via world parameters can be very dangerous and honestly, everything set to extreme / minimal HUD made for a reasonably immersive experience. No worrying about having the right gear level weapons or any of that tosh, just customise your loadout from unlocked blueprints / gear, pick an appearance you like and there are plenty of good options for gear and boom, off you pop. The gunplay felt good, movement felt mostly decent save for the cover system feeling a bit awkward, plenty of tools / gadgets to use, variety of classes to pick and level up for bonus perks that alter / enhance a style of play + new customisation options for gear. The problems with Breakpoint arise for me when you consider the foundation it was built upon. Because areas were initially closed off with gear levels, this causes issues, as the map is entirely open now, which led to me killing an important antagonist SUPER early on and completely disjointing the narrative. It's not that GR is known for a compelling narrative, but it just felt off, weird. I don't like the UI for Breakpoint either, it's messy and the objective board sucks design wise. In a proper RPG designed for this sort of thing, that level of freedom would be amazing, but here, it wasn't intended and damages the experience. I also don't like that enemies can zone in on your exact position once alerted to your presence. You could fire off a shot from 500m away, silenced, and they'll triangulate your position rather easily. The map has a lot of large open areas too, and as I mentioned early, the cover system is super finnicky and not always responsive anyway. Anyway.. If you want a solid military sandbox to play around in, whack on Immersive Mode, crank up the settings to where you feel comfortable and you'll have plenty of map and terrain to play around with. I still have LOADS left to tackle after my time with the game, not even halfway done, but that's to be expected with Ubisoft and their bloating of games. Do not buy at FULL price though, wait for a deep sale. Really, if Ubisoft had any merit these days, this could have been a toe-to-toe contender with the likes of MGSV. Bit of a shame really, as we're dying for a great single player Ghost Recon, Rainbox Six or even Splinter Cell at this point.
