Judging from what this game has, not what it has lost, Beautiful and vibrant art style Dynamic combat and core loop. Soundtrack is good ( but implementation is problematic, it feels like a bad compression issue). Itemisation feels subtle at the beginning but becomes impactful as the game goes. Skill progression also feels small at the beginning but quickly becomes interesting. I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. Now, let's adress the elephant in the room: Yes, this game has lost crossplay. The devs can't have wanted that on purpose, seeing as they quit the f2p model, I think the game wasn't turning a good enough profit and they had to take some decisions, and that may include third party services to allow crossplay. Does this suck? Yes, but I don't think the devs just said: ♥♥♥♥ it we ball, remove crossplay it's too much pain to deal with. To the people saying they went for a cash grab when making the game pay 2 play, did you miss the part where they also made all battle passes and cosmetics free in game? What happened here is just a classic decision taken by investors of saying - this won't turn a good enough profit, let's cut our losses and not put out a bunch of new cosmetics in game HOPING for our player base to dish out some more coins for these. I'm not saying I agree with this decision, but I understand the logic behind it and accept it. All I'm saying is, when you meet a new person, is your first reaction to judge him or her on what he/she has lost or suffered in the past? Or do you judge he/her on what he/she is now. Support Towerborne for being a better game, but this does not mean condone the actions of investors and shareholders who take decisions behind the scenes all in the name of better profits.

i had the chance to play quite some of the game during the EA-time but never got the game myself: i ust do not care about live-service games as they switched to a fixed-model, aka a real game i knew i had to buy it the release version is not a live-service game anymore; hence some of the negative reviews, cause some crossplay-functions are disabled; who knows if they come back? as it stands it is a fantastic blend of beat'em up action game with rpg mechanics the core, the beat'em up system is 10/10 if you know games like Streets of Rage or Double Dragon you might never guess that a western game could actualy be similiar (good) but it is. there is a cleanlyness to the combo- and combat-systems here that just works yes, you can totaly button-smash; but the combos in general are not mile-long-memory-tests they are usualy ust 3 to 5 prompts long (or 6) and heavy a very clear feel to em there is quite some freedom to juggle, combo and cancel but even if you do not know or want to deal with these mechanics you can fully embrace the combat each class (basicaly weapon-type) feels different and build with purpose once you get the hang of em. it is just fun; even when you just play it as a 1 to 2 hours beat'em up/action-rpg session then there is the rpg build ontop. gear comes in all varieties and with all the passive and active effects you would expect from a Diablo/PoE-like. duration, dots, crit, attack, hp-regen, etc. all the effects are here...just mixed in a Streets of Rage-type game-loop. the same applies to classes, which are in essence your weapon-types. there ain't no skill-tree. it works more like a perk-system; level ups net you more perk-points, unlock new perks (sometimes there are special "things", like missions, or boni-obectives you need to unlock new perks) and every perk has a point-cost. each weapon got a special function, like the shield having block and parry mechanics, the gloves charge-moves and the hammer-type a flamethrower built in then there is up to two focus-skills (LT+ either X or Y on pad) and then there is your pet which can also net a variety of active skills mixed with the combos and movement skills there is always a lot of options they also tried their best to enrich the simple "walkaround in kill everything"-style these games usualy got. missions main- and side can have a variety of different obectives, bosses, side-content heck even enviromental obejects might drop new ressources. gear can be crafted, upgraded and can come with aspect slots (think crystals/gems with passive functions) and both gear and crafting mats can be dropped by enemies, come as rewards for missions or from chests and the enviromental obejects it realy does work kinda like a PoE or Diablo would in that regard the OST is quite high quality (more classical compositions) and the grafics are pretty neat to look at especialy the enviroments look fantastic at ultra, both in quality and art-direction the animations also look sometimes downright stunning if you are looking for a mix between action-beat'em-up combat with rpg mechanics i don't think you got much better options and now, since it is no more a live-service-game the price is kinda a steal for the content delivered solo already very fun, but coop makes games like this even more shine i do understand the frustration of people who banked on playing crossplay, but atm. i think the state of the EA is the best we could hope for seeing as how Mircoslop is the one in charge of the bills

It's like some developers asked 'What if a beat em up lasted more than 2 hours?' The combat feels great, each class is fun, none are duds. It's simple but complex in all the right way. Gear is hit or miss, you can craft gear now so you aren't at the mercy of RNGesus but a lot of the early and mid-game gear is simple stat increases. The legendaries and sets are gameplay-altering at least which makes the endgame grind fun and rewarding. Unfortunately you can still tell this was intended to be a GaaS, the empty hub world, the 'shop', the battle passes, etc. Doesn't take away from the combat which is the meat and potatoes but kinda weird navigating those types of menus in an 'offline' game.

Rework has been great, live service stuff was not needed. Runs much smoother. Music is top notch

Its just nice to have a good beat'em up with persistent RPG elements (classes, gearing up, leveling up, etc.) and great combo system. Solid 8/10 game for me and look to put many hours into the game after the final progress reset coming 4/29/25.
