So, I like the game enough to generally recommend it, and played through the main story, for about 20 hours of gameplay total. That said, it's a weak recommendation, and I can easily see bits that will fail to hold people's interest or outright turn them off. Let's get to the damning with faint praise, then! This game is here to tell you stories. The stories are all pleasant enough, but, outside of the main story, they're little more than an excuse to make you acquire/craft specific items, without much in the way of continuity beyond those simple transactions. In contrast, the main story threads through the entire game... but it's a story that happens around you, not with you, with choices that look to have zero impact on the story as a whole. To break up the stories, you have the mechanical meat of the game: chiseling out finds from the bags your Auntie sources for you, cleaning them up, and "upcycling" them by slapping different bits together. Of these, chiseling is the best part - with a controller, it's a pretty relaxing approximation of turning something over in your hands while you work out how best to disassemble it. The worst is cleaning, especially with the wretched sponge you're given to start with. Thankfully, you can both upgrade that sponge and get soak tubs to minimize the cleaning you need to do, so it's not as bad as it could be. Still, both the stories and the work are generally nice and relaxing enough to keep you coming back for another in-game day, so it's worth recommending. It may not be a great game, but it's a decidedly okay game.

The game is good, and relaxing... But... I can't play it because every time the camera moves to a new area I get vertigo. If you get motion sickness, you won't be able to play this game, sadly.

I love all the character art in this game. I also appreciate being able to set all the actions in this game to be "On Hover" instead of forcing repetitive and sometimes painful clicking.

8/10 - Super chill and relaxing shop management game. There is one thing that could probably make or break this game for you. Do you want challenge in all of your games? Because you will not find it here. There are no fail state, no way of angering your customers, they will wait until you have the object they are looking for, even if it takes months of in game time. To time pressure to speak of (other than a limited amount of actions per day). If you need some kind of challenge, then you will most likely be bored, but if you like to just relax for a while, with some "Power wash simulator"-type of minigames and follow a cute and silly story with some weird and delightful characters, then you can do much worse than Trash Goblin. Very enjoyable, in between more taxing games.

Trash Goblin is a really charming little game that's good for when you need something chill, low intensity and a little tedious. The core loop of Trash Goblin is about extracting, cleaning, repairing/improving, and selling items. The mini-games for each action are simple and easily understood; extraction is the most complicated with some light puzzle elements of where to chisel away. There are accessibility options to make each of them auto-input, and you'll want to activate them - the cleaning and chiseling can be real repetitive stress inducing without. The art assets are the biggest feature of the game for me - the designs of all of the named characters are lovely and it's always fun to see what quirky character will visit with a request next. The mini-stories for those characters are very charming and jokes & bits got a few good smiles out of me. The main story is serviceable and wrapped up neatly, but has a bit of the issue of your character being kind of a side character with little agency in their own story. The pacing is a little odd. The game tries to prioritize the items that are currently being requested, either by the named characters or a generated stranger waiting at your window. Because of this, you clear quests quite quickly - it keeps the plot moving right along, but doesn't give the player a lot of time to stew in the simulator aspect of it. Because you can expect your quest items to turn up most of the time, you don't have time to get a big stock of random junk to store/upcycle, and without junk to sell the story-necessary market trips feel a little empty and the randoms can just be safely dismissed so more named characters will turn up faster. It gives the game a slightly whirlwind feeling that's a little counter-intuitive to a relaxing, mundane chill-out game, but it also gets you through the plot before it has time to overstay its welcome, so... I don't know - not exactly a bad thing, but it feels strange and it would be nice to have a little more time for the simulator and creative aspects to shine between side-stories. Overall, I think it's a really neat little simulator - highly recommended for folks who want a simulator with a unique, fantastical setting instead of the usual real-world business sims.
