Hope this real skill will newer be needed (war with Russia and Baltics). Training for worst scenario, i am age 50+ and drones are my only option to defend my country - Latvia. I installed steam just for this game. This simulator is great, especially when using real drone controller (my Radiomaster Boxer -> USB HID). You need plenty time to train your fingers and brain to do at least minimal positive stuff (especially in ACRO mode) , totally new move/strafe/drift logic - need at least 20 hours fly-time to be comfortable to play newbie level. Wishlist Wish simulator has a toggle for learning stages - do not want mission/step messages when just hit backspace reboot (annoying and disturbing). If i have turned ON map, please keep on quick reset too (backspace). Wish ability decrease input sensitivity of ACRO MODE (tweak curves not enough, but rather amplitude - how much impact on drone). [update: undocumented "G" button in flight mode, set sensitivity 800 down to 400, enjoy] And first 2 hours in game was very bad - PLEASE tell for beginners (101 courses), only then throttle is 0 + BOMB defused, you will be enabled to fly - animation in corner was totally misleading (switches/buttons/toggles does not match my controller).
I really want to play this but it won't properly detect my Taranis X9D Plus controller. If this could be fixed that would be amazing, thanks!! Edit: In my excitement for this game's release, I completely overlooked the list of compatible controllers. My apologies to the dev team. Best of luck! I have the IQ of a green bean Edit 2: The new interface is awesome and I'm not sure if its on my end or not. I have a Taranis x9D and when I try to bind the upper switches (I get as far as the top left) I can't bind them. Not sure if its on my end or if others have the same issue but I'll troubleshoot until I get somewhere. Hopefully I can eventually play this, I've wanted to for about a year now lol
I feel a little ghoulish playing this game given that there is a war raging in Ukraine with real people being killed by drones but I have played Liftoff for long enough that I am becoming pretty good and it's taken me about as far as it can for learning to fly a combat drone. My thinking behind learning to fly a drone is that the world is becoming an uncertain place and drones are a fact of life in theatres of war. I have many hundreds of hours playing DCS and I have to be realistic - if war comes to Western Europe tomorrow, even with all my time in DCS, no one is going to let me pilot an F-18, Huey, or Apache. A £500 drone on the other hand is a reasonable bet. I sincerely hope that the Russian mess doesn't spread far enough West that I need to get involved, but for the price of a couple of fairly cheap games and a Radiomaster Pocket, I reckon it's worth the investment to be prepared. Having a specialism in the military is always a good thing. Personally, I think that drone flying should be on the school curriculum in the same way that men had to practice archery every Sunday in the 14th Century. If war comes and every citizen can fly a drone, they can't get us all. Anyway, the game ... I have not flown a real drone yet but the drones in UFDS seem pretty accurate based on my experience in Liftoff and Uncrashed and the missions are believable. The game is unforgiving but reality is pretty unforgiving. There is a good range of drones to fly and a good amount of missions to play covering most of the roles drones fulfil in Ukraine at the moment. I am not sure that the Radiomaster Pocket is really fully up to the task in UFDS because it has too few buttons and switches to comfortably cover all the drone controls. One part of the sim that is very annoying is the initial calibration of the controller, you can't skip it so you are forced into making choices that you'll have to unpick later unless you have a controller with enough buttons and switches already. It's not the worst thing but it can be annoying. I have lost a lot of drones through self-destructing them by pressing the wrong button, mostly because I couldn't use the button I wanted. Otherwise than that, the graphics are good, the sound is good, the atmosphere is good, and the game is pretty low-cost. It is a work in progress and is has come on a long way in the relatively short time I have been playing it, or maybe I have come a long way in my piloting, or both, it's difficult to tell. I have about 7 hours in this sim, about 45 hours in Liftoff, and about 6 hours in Uncrashed. I'm starting to get fairly competent as a pilot as long we don't talk about freestyle. I might recommend getting the hang of the basics in Liftoff before moving onto UFDS. Liftoff is a little more forgiving. I still move back and forth between UFDS and Liftoff - getting competent in Minus Two in Liftoff is very, very good training for UFDS. I found UFDS to be a very frustrating experience until I went back to Liftoff for a bit to improve some of my weak skills such as altitude control. Definitely worth a purchase if this is your thing.
If you're reading this you're probably a dev of someone trying to see if this game is worth buying or not. Before buying this I did the same thing with people saying it wasn't worth it and a bad game, It does exactly as expected not less or more it's a simulator, like Arma so you gotta learn the game a bit, Its mainly for military so it won't be a game made for gamers and more as a good tutorial a bit like liftoff but with more things to take account
