TLDR; decent game, buy on sale. I feel that this is a solid game and worth a playthrough, everybody always wants it to live up to the magic that Until Dawn had but that game was lightning in a bottle and lightning never strikes twice. If you know what a Dark Pictures game is like then you know what to expect here. (They probably shouldn't have dropped the subtitle.) A lot of people giving this game hate that I don't think it fully deserves. I personally didn't encounter any bugs, maybe a frame rate drop when exiting the pause menu but other than that it was smooth gameplay no issues. The new stealth real time threat sections were cool, but kind of reduced the story choices to "did they get caught or not". At one point I did get caught and was stuck between the monster and the way forwards so my character "got injured" when I was caught again a few seconds later but I don't think that affected literally anything else for the rest of the game. Them bringing over the cutting room floor from Frank Stone is a great addtion and makes replaying to discover missed secrets and branches of the story really easy! In terms of story beats it is an interesting plot but I would say there isn't as much "omg is this person the real person" as the page and story makes there out to be. At the one point where they make you choose it was obivous who was human to me. There is an in game messages window that lets you have extra convos during the exploration sections and this kinda also gives away some of the choices, I would imagine the standard player is skipping these so maybe the tension is better for them? The twist in episode 7 is one of the better twists from this game series although I expected it from some secrets I found haha, I did enjoy this one over some of the other games (looking at you Little Hope) I'd say its a solid 2nd place over House of Ashes. I also really like that there are so many connections to previous games hidden in the secrets and details of the story. And it feels like they really are building an overarching plot that makes me look forwards to the next games.

The game was enjoyable until it turned into a crappy stealth game, but it's worth a playthrough. Steam needs a rating between negative and positive like neutral or something

Overall pretty good with a few hiccups Minor spoilers ahead People calling this the worst Dark Pictures game is absolutely insane to me. This is by far one of the more competent Dark Pictures we've had. For me this is #2 right after House of Ashes. I think having real time gameplay is a great addition, but it's very overused, especially towards the latter half of the game where the stealth sections tank the pacing. Hopefully in the future there is a more balanced mix of QTE and stealth sections, as well as bringing back the keep quiet heartbeat sections in some way. I encountered one area that caused me frame drops and one very minor bug where a character slid into the correct position. This is a HUGE improvement from the last game The Devil in Me which is a complete buggy mess. The story had me very invested and didn't find a way to completely ruin it like in some other Dark Pictures, however I wish it didn't go fully into creature horror and maintained the social aspect more. The time jumps are surprisingly effective, doing a great job of spreading out gameplay sections and providing context to the current story. Sometimes having only 5 characters playable makes it very obvious that certain characters are unsavable but to my pleasant surprise all of the cast is savable. I also am a HUGE fan of the O Death Collectables . As someone who likes to go back through the game and see alternative paths and collect secrets I missed, having the curator appear throughout the game after collecting the Obol coin towards the end makes me incredibly excited to go through and find the rest of them. I don't usually leave reviews but I feel like many of these reviews went in wanting to hate it when this does quite a lot right.

Great game, a lot of good storylines and separate segments that change based on your decisions. Only possible complaint I understand is that there are ALOT of stealth scenes. BUT, this game is pulling from Alien, The Thing, and possibly even like last of us and matrix at the same time. They are including mechanics that reference other games. Don't be a chud and complain when you don't get it.

I’m playing this on the SteamDeck and locked at 30fps. There’s a preset in settings already set…it’s under “ SteamDeck “ and most of everything is low. The game still looks amazing though and gameplay is smooth too. There’s other setting for the actual gameplay ie I set it so instead of mashing the corresponding button I just press it instead ( I’m too slow at mashing it ). Others you can tailor to your preference. I’ve just started this about an hour ago and quite enjoying the story so far especially since it’s set in Space onboard the ship Cassiopeia. It doesn’t take long till it kicks in. There’s new mechanics like crouching and some others to help you out during gameplay. There’s also a new mechanic called Turning Points which allow you to rewind a choice you made and chose another choice. There’s 2 ways to play Explorer or Survivor. Explorer gives you unlimited Turning Points whereas Survivor doesn’t allow you to use Turning Points so actions are consequential. People will live or die on your choice ! If you liked the first Seasom of the Dark Pictures Anthology series you’ll love this one. Seems more polished and smoother too.
