A different approach to a war game. It's an educational (and emotional) journey about the events of World War 1. A story shown through the lens of friendship and family, with less focus on geopolitics and more about the people involved, both civilians and soldiers. The gameplay is simple and easy to get engaged with, just little puzzles and a bit of action. It serves more as an excuse to experience this masterfully written story. And oh man... the storytelling is just brilliant, how it manages to interconnect the characters from opposite factions is emotionally resonant, it helps to understand the world isn't just black and white, everything has nuance, even when you think there isn't, the story finds its way to awaken the empathy within you. The end of this game left me hoping I never witness the cruelty of war at any point in my life. Consider this review a warning if you are sensitive of heart. It is highly recommended nonetheless ♥
I know that this game came out back in 2014 and it has taken me way to long to play Valiant Hearts so I'm a little late on playing it. But WOW what a game, the whole story line of each character has both triumphantly happy moments to super sorrowful filled moments. Wish I would have played Valiant Hearts way sooner. It probably is one of the best stories in all the video games I have ever played. This is one of those games that hits an emotional spot for me and will have a long standing in both my heart and mind. Valiant Hearts is a 10/10 and I believe everyone should have this game in their library, even if you are not into gaming I think everyone should experience it. Wish Ubisoft made more games like this one.
Replayed this game after beating it almost a decade ago and it still managed to make me sad. Valiant Hearts: The Great War is one of the greatest historical war game of all time since it manages to keep the player captivated all throughout its 10ish hours of playtime with a great story, good levels design/game play and of course its well written cast of main characters. Its messages of the horrors of war and the moral grayness of both sides of WW1 are depicted clearly but don't manage to fall flat in the slightest. Ever since i first played this game at around 2018, it never left me and I've been thinking about it and its characters ever since. Its art style is charming and the level backgrounds are stunning making this game even more entertaining. Definitely an underrated game (today at least) which is a bummer since this game is so good. The characters really are the soul of this game though, the "Diary" tab makes this game's characters feel real and the "Historical Facts" tab turns the game into an interactive history lesson as well. Not really a difficult game so i highly recommend getting this game if you are a history buff or a fan of puzzle and or story games. Just be prepared for the wave of sadness at the end of the game
This is the first game I bought on steam, it opened a lot of things for me. It started the journey of owning games and me playing them (this and hollow knight) and actually enjoying them. I never thought of buying games on steam because my pc isnt the best, but I can play some amazing little games like this and thats enough for me. An emotional story, with nice puzzles, LOVED THE DESIGN AND ART STYLE, Emiles letters and overall feel of the game. How many times do we have to repeat history with wars to see that ITS never worth it.
