I mean, excelent artstyle, but it is a pretty repetitive game i gotta say... fun in short periods, but boring at long. I recommend it if it is cheap for you, but do it for the comedy, music, ambiance and art. The gameplay will be over in 30 minutes after you arrived the 4th ship that is the same.
More of an immersive sim than anything else. You might think it is like roboquest or gunfire reborn. One of those games you can pick up and blast through levels. Nope, exact opposite. Ammo is incredibly sparse. Enemies are extremely powerful. Food and healing is sparse and controlled. This game is essentially an immersive sim extraction shooter with roguelike elements, and you can tell it was heavily inspired by system shock. Lots more strategy than run and gun. If you've played species unknown, this is essentially that minus the horror elements. The biggest issue I have with it is that there isn't enough environmental combat integrations. I would like to be able to burn an enemy alive by activating a home alone trap flame thrower. Anything we can get early game to help save ammo would've been amazing. Also, it should be an absolute sin that there isn't melee in this game, unless I'm just dumb and not far enough into it.
Great art style and straightforward gameplay. I enjoyed some of the dry humor and the theme of capitalism, slavery, and even consumerism. It can get boring quickly, and it would be nice to have the ability to customize your Bastard or get more varied Bastards from the draw. Overall, a good game that you should play in short bursts. Will tackle their next game, Wild Bastards, and then wait for GodZone
The highlight of this year to me (i know im slow, but anyway). The core gameplay of rogelite survivor in cellshading comicbook style sprinkled with good old british humor, now even in space! You boarding up ships to loot the junk it was left on it, dodging/killing ship`s mutated inhabitants, escape pirates (until you a able to fight them or have some torpedoes) to find resources or parts/items to craft the way out of the Sargasso Nebula. The gameplay loop, the diversity of weapons and enemies. different challenges and limitations for advanced players is good enough to play for tens of hours, and for me it was like "just one more ship" again and again xD Positives: + the graphics is stylized, so its kinda undying and doesn`t feel old + witty british humor + many different mechanics (tho at 1-2 depth things can be relatively repetitive, since most mechanics make ships more dangerous in one or several ways) + addictive gameplay loop + good items balance (i finished the game with main limitations e.g. only weapons, indirect, devices and nothing and i must admit all of them were playable) (tho dodging and running without anything with constant empty hands is quite stressing) Negatives: - some call out the repetitiveness,in the end there are like maybe 10 different enemy types and 8-10 different ships (multiply it with different room combinations, and different enemies and hazards, and it was more than enough to me) - this game is hard. Take your time. Don`t be greedy. Don`t risk too much for nothing. Been there, done that, not worth it. In the end we all are some sort of clients in the world system, dehydrated/born, pushed into this world just to find water based lube... (I`m not joking its one of the mission items xD)
