About double the price I'd expect for a game that took under 2.5h to beat, but other than a few flaws (Cursor and some other bits are too hard to see), it's a good incremental game.

Fairly decent, but it's no Astro Prospector... Void miner is a short incremental that shares much in common with Astro Prospector, but is worse across the board in pretty much every conceivable metric besides the amount of bundles it is a part of... Now, this isn't to say that it is a bad game, and there is no shame in being worse than Astro Prospector either, but this one is just average or maybe a little above average. The game is largely carried on its innately enjoyable gameplay, as the incremental aspects are decent but not stellar. To start out, the game is quite short. This isn't egregious for a short incremental, but it is firmly on the shorter end of things even among its peers. I completed the main game in just under 2 hours, and then there was about 20 minutes more in order to complete the skill tree entirely. An endless mode exists but is about as bland as you can really get. The upgrades are kinda all over the place. The skill tree is a little weird in that some upgrades are invisible until you have bought MUTLIPLE levels of their adjacent/previous upgrades. To the games' credit, it has a decent variety of new weapons, even if only the Mothership really stands out, although to its discredit it is basically missing any higher level of upgrade complexity. Surprisingly, there isn't even any sort of critical hit based upgrade, the most complex thing you will really get is projectile speed or making enemies drop pickups. There are not really any "synergistic" upgrades in the game either, with everything being either a basic numerical increase, or unlocking a new weapon. There was actually a bit of anti-synergy too, the game has an upgrade that lets you get temporary upgrades in the round based on the skill tree. The problem is that since many of the upgrades on the skill tree are quite basic or low impact, the more you fill it out the more you dilute the pool of actually good upgrades. One of these temporary upgrades in particular can actually make a pretty big difference in beating the game, and it would have been great if there was an upgrade or feature to remove the bad upgrades from the pool. The economy could have also used some work. The economic upgrade scaled in price too quickly to have the higher levels be worth buying, and the bottleneck of oxygen (the games' time limit) never felt particularly good either. The enemies and asteroids are never very threatening to you, and you are highly unlikely to die from anything but the time limit. Lastly, the pricing scheme is also a little weird for this one. I paid about 4 dollars by getting it in on sale and also in one of its many, many bundles. As it stands this one is probably only worth buying on sale, 8 dollars is a pretty ridiculous price for what you are getting. I can only imagine that it is meant to ONLY be bought in bundles, considering just how many of them there are, which would also mean that the usual price is somewhere around 7.20, but this is still not really worth it. This review was written just a day or two after the games' release, so more stuff could be added or changed later. Ultimately, this one isn't the best, but is also far from the worst one out there. While it is short, the game is still pretty reasonably fun, and I have played short incrementals that were both longer and less enjoyable before.

Neat little incremental game that gets the important stuff right. The gameplay loop has been done before, but it works for a $5 game. Most of my criticisms are nitpicks - I had fun playing this! The good: - Tech tree is expansive and contains lots of fun sub-mechanics - Gameplay is smooth and feels bug-free - Music goes seriously hard, love it - Sound design is solid - Particle effects are appropriately flashy The bad: - UI is fairly unpolished. Dragging around on the tech tree is quite slippery. I wish there was more info at your character where you're looking 99% of the time, instead of tucked away in the corners. Give me a health meter there, a summary of what I've picked up, that sort of thing. - Art varies in quality, with a mix of pixel art and vector graphics. Pixel sizes are all over the place, making everything look kind of messy at times. - Why is there no sound or otherwise indication when you take damage? - Why does killing an enemy cause you to pick up all the gold on screen?? Feels like this should've been an upgrade instead of an unexplained game mechanic.

I wish there was a sideways thumb for this. It's not a bad game. There's just not $8 worth of content here. I finished the entire game in about an hour and a half. I probably could have beaten it sooner if I invested more in oxygen. It shows 4.5 hours because I left the game running in the background for a couple hours. Once you beat the main game, you unlock endless mode. Compared to other incremental games, the branching skill tree is tiny. Lots of upgrades I thought I would eventually see but never saw such as card drops being drawn to my ship, lasers shooting behind me, faster attack speeds, landmines, turrets (although mothership sort of is one) and just crazier and crazier upgrades to deal with the more challenging encounters I would face with each passing wave. But it never came. I beat all 15 waves and that was it. I was only half way done with the skill tree. The balance just seems off when it comes to progression. I also found the game incredibly easy once you unlocked the double laser upgrade. The game is way too short even as an incremental game. The end screen made it seem like more stuff was on the way so maybe the game will get better. I'd love to see a bigger branching tree with upgrades that look cool and feel good to use, actual boss battles that really challenge you, and more waves. All in all, it's not a bad game. Just lacking content.

Classic fun, I stumbled across void miner from a post online, I played the demo, and even for me, someone who was never into retro gaming or space games, it's highly addictive. Saving up for that next upgrade has caused me to look up and see 5 more minutes has really been 30... that's how you know a game is good. Good no BS game.
