Pros: -Mind numbing grass mowing simulator -Effects are satisfactory, seeing numbers go up is satisfactory, the huge AoE attacks are satisfactory -OST, it's Dynasty Warriors, after all -A bunch of characters -Characters come in free updates (except from Origins DLC) -If you like grinding, you're gonna love this cons: -It looks like a mobile game -It is super short, only 4 "chapters", 1 boss each and 3 on the last one -Other game modes don't change enough to keep it new -It becomes repetitive pretty fast -Sin spewers. -No Warriors Orochi characters (yet), come on, would love to do HUGE AoE attacks with Gyuki or wipe out enemies with Himiko -The price, also the DLC prices It's an ok-ish game on pc, a great game for the Steam Deck, wouldn't buy when not in sale but I'm from Brazil so 25$ here is 10x more than 25$ in the US, I'd like to see more modes, more enemies or more maps, this is a roguelike that has potential, but lacks in meaningful content, having 100 characters mean nothing if you're running through the same 10 different screens always. If there was a Neutral review, I'd give it to this game, but I'll give it a positive because it is not a bad game, it's just flawed

Great roguelite game for busy gamers ✨ Short burst gaming of 30-60 Min and feeling like a god or Bug afterwards 😝 You get core Hack&Slay of Dynasty Warriors with minimalism of anything else, just fun slaying thousands of troops, building on your run and afterwards unlocking permanent upgrades ☕ After a run you're like ah... only one more run before sleeping... until you have to wake up for work 💀 (Playing with Steam Deck 💕)

Preface Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi: the series of games that defined the highly regarded Musou franchise that Koei Tecmo has upheld since the early 2000s, has had its ups and downs over the past two decades. Over time, this gave birth to other franchises joining the fray including Gundam, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and even Berserk. With Warriors Abyss, they made the ingenious decision to cash in on the roguelite hype - and to miraculous success. The game has not been marketed as well as it could have been, but true fans of the series have and will play this game eventually and realize it is a one of kind experience for the Musou enjoyer. With both Warriors Abyss and DW Origins, the future of the Musou titles is in good hands. Positives Gameplay & Content The combination of Musou hack-n-slash and roguelite is a godsend. Whereas traditional mainline Musou titles focused on third-person "1 vs 1000" combat while playing missions based around historical battles circumventing the RotK and Three Warring States eras along with a handful of fictional additions in the WO games, Abyss sees a fresh take on an existing concept that allows veteran and new Musou players alike to take on armies in a unique way. Traditional mechanics such as moveset strings, unique weapons, signature Musou attack, weapon attributes, and character variety return; meanwhile, we have new gameplay designs that bless players with even more options: summoning, assemble, and team building & tactical formations around emblem/stat synergies allow for a short-term RPG-like experience that really sets a strong innovative foundation. In this regard, Warriors Abyss is just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine all these old and new mechanics culminating into one full-blown traditional Musou title. Wouldn't that be a sight? Character Roster Musou titles never hold back with the sheer number of playable characters, and Abyss is no exception. With added DLC characters (ty Ryu Hayabusa) and even DW Origins being announced as future content, the roster can only get stronger at this point. Playable Ziluan with Wei/Wu/Shu emblems all-in-one would flip the script on build potential. I'm not sure how I would feel if all the fictional/fantasy characters from Warriors Orochi were added, but a bigger character roster would never hurt in the long run, as long as they provided other content or modes to balance the replayability factor. Replay Factor Aside from the fact that you can have a unique experience with each of the 100+ characters belonging to different factions with a variety of traits/emblems, the game allows you to take it few steps further by grinding for unique weapons for each characters and Records of Sin, which are optional gear similar to scrolls in Nioh that allow for different buffs to carry on your runs. Traversal is the NG+ difficulty system to increase the challenge as you continue the grind and have fun hacking and slashing through the floors of Hell. All in all, the replay factor is there and Abyss is a godsend in every way for Musou enthusiasts to stay busy until the recently announced DW3 Remaster blesses us in all its glory. Negatives DLC Costumes + Pricing Now granted, the cost of the game being set at $20 is icing on the cake, but the sheer number and cost of the DLC costumes is painstakingly gut-wrenching. Takes me back to when KT charged hundreds, if not thousands, of DLC for the DoA titles, which valued to over $1000+ for mere cosmetics. In today's day and age, this is once again a controversial topic since one can argue they need to make the money for consistent development and/or updates, but this one of those topic points that just reminds me of how good we had it back in the 90s and early 2000s when unlockable content was just that: TRULY unlockable. Conclusion Final Verdict: 9/10 A+ Once again, Koei Tecmo is on a roll with most - if not all - of their decisions so far and Warriors Abyss is a fresh take on the renowned Musou concept that will keep players busy until the month of destiny (March 2026) hits us in full force with the release of Nioh 3 and Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered Complete Edition. Add to that high possibility of DW4 and DW5 being remastered, here's to Koei Tecmo riding their incredible momentum and rise from the ashes since the DW9 debacle; they deserve the victory since so many other gaming companies have been dropping the ball lately. In my humble opinion, KT doesn't seem like it's on the list of companies that will be die out in misery any time soon.

A 3D roguelite Warriors game. For those newer to roguelite, your levels, build, and progression through the dungeons in the game are reset whether you win, die, or quit. The game is very focused on the gameplay loop. And then for a player asking about roguelite vs. roguelike, the quick way would be: Roguelites: Hades, Slay the Spire, Rogue Legacy, Risk of Rain 2, Nova Drift, Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, etc. Roguelikes: Fatal Labyrinth, Azure Dreams, Shiren the Wanderer, Trillion: God of Destruction, The Guided Fate Paradox, Touhou Genso Wanderer What I like/liked: [*]gameplay [*]builds [*]replayability [*]meta-progression (every 50 cumulative levels for a hero = more stats, unlocking more heroes = more stats, rewards from other game modes offer different passives and stats, acquiring a hero's weapon and transcending offers other build options) [*]its roster of heroes and different angles to approach builds on each of them [*]customizing the playlist based on area and boss, then being able to select among your playlists [*]extensive number of tutorials and in-game help [*]increasing number of game modes from higher difficulty, designated and randomized playthrough with challenge modifiers, a time attack mode, and a survival mode. Other things about this game: [*]minimal story. Though there is lore tucked away in the records section you can unlock as it relates our employer and the situations they've been in and/or are in. [*]enemy and boss variety – up to 8 bosses, with 4 of the bosses being the same each playthrough [*]minimal character story – the extent is a biography and the description on their weapon [*]four underworld-themed biomes [*]no multiplayer [*]you can preview heroes (that act as passives and/or abilities during a playthrough) and reroll the heroes if you don't like the selection given, but currently there is no Banish feature to remove that hero from the pool [*]currently, cannot reset or toggle off most of your meta-progression (e.g., some players wanted to toggle off their cumulative levels to avoid being too powerful, others don't want the new attack boost that comes with unlocking your weapon, and others just want to be weaker in general with access to the full playable roster – as unlocking more of the roster also increases the stats of all heroes. [*]Characters have been released as part of the base game purchase. The DLCs are cosmetic for about 0.50 to 3.00 USD per costume, bundled together so that there aren't 200+ DLCs showing up in the store and creating drama and confusion that way. DLC prices haven't reached other studios charging 5.00 to 40.00 USD per costume for comparable visibility. But you'll still see a handful of drama barons over the topic of "optional cosmetics are too expensive!" If you're one of these drama barons, give me your clown emojis and Funnys. Other Comments: For players looking to get all the achievements, the game may take you 25~60ish hours. If you were looking for completion of all the meta progression, highest difficulties with all heroes, and highest difficulty of the Training Halls, you're looking at hundreds of hours if you let yourself. Prior to July 3~4, 2025's patch, this estimate was at 2000+ hours. Despite all the extra meta progression dumped on players and new heroes added, there were some quality of life features added too that will cut down on this estimate by several hundred hours. I don't plan to play THAT long. I do find the game enjoyable for a run or two every day or every other day. And just trying something I haven't or fine tuning something I have, but more the former. Still, have gotten 300+ hours out of the game from just the base game price and no DLC. Definitely gotten my money's worth from this unexpected shadow-dropped game.

This is just a reply to the user who said the game doesn't have saves. It does. Just exit between floors through the menu. Then click continue on the main menu to start at that point again. As for DLC content, give us Warriors: Legends of Troy!
