It's like if Sekiro was made by chimps on acid randomly throwing unity assets together and only had a month to deliver the product. And I mean that in a good way. It's jank but it's intentionally fun jank. So I actually really disliked the first game as it didn't live up to its "weird" aspect of the title, and was more a generic and boring isometric action RPG with some funny gimmicks. It also was optimized by an insane person and ate your GPU like it was a hippo at an all you can eat buffet. But this is miles better. Not only is it running at a performance you'd expect, but the combat is surprisingly tight for a game that feels like it's held together by duct tape and spit. Parrying is consistent and satisfying, and combat can be an actual challenge when surrounded by enemies. I actually stopped playing Wo Long Fallen Dynasty to try this out and enjoyed it's more methodical parrying more. But it also delivers much more on its weirdness. From the beginning being a 3D game allows for more open explorable areas but also makes the random and janky assets and enemies much funnier than the original. It also allows for more variety in the powers and upgrades than the original could really do. The only caveat, but it kind of comes with the territory, is that you need to have a full PC peripherals to play this to its fullest extent (controller, mouse, keyboard, etc) bc of random criteria powers can have to activate. And especially a microphone. A lot of the gimmicks are microphone based. Though it worked well with my earbuds but annoys my wife with all the yelling I'm doing. Which makes it even funnier.
This is unironically what gaming should be about... 3 minutes into playing this and I'm killing enemies by tapping my microphone and moving files into my C drive to get a damage bonus. This game makes me do things no other game has ever made me do and it makes me smile the stupidest smile. Novelty is still alive in gaming.
