This game is a failure, but it's an accomplished failure that I would recommend if you're the kind of person who appreciates a good experience and is willing to put up with some aches along the way. The obvious selling point of this game is the style, which I would say is a cross between Cowboy Bebop and No More Heroes. Definitely has a vibe that is easy to get into. Everything else in this game is a mixed bag. The mecha fighting is serviceable, but pretty easy to break so that by the halfway point of the game there's not much left to challenge you. Doing chores to raise money is full of some fun mini games, but around the time they wear out their welcome you don't really have to do them anymore if you've been managing cash well so then that part of the game just falls off. Walking around all the time is time consuming and boring. The characters are all very engaging and interesting, but the story is much more interested in the vibes than in being narratively coherent. That's not always a problem, but there's just a few too many plot threads and character beats that never resolve to be fully satisfying. Rather than spend time resolving some of the games mysteries or the implied plots running under the surface you'll find your time chatting about what makes a good K Drama or engaging in an all you can eat contest. These sequences aren't bad, but when there's kind of a feeling in the game that some of it had to be left on the cutting room floor its sometimes odd to wonder why certain bits were left in as it feels shockingly both too long and too short. All and all it's a very ambitious fumble. But it's definitely much more interesting than a bland and uninspired failure. This is one where you can feel the intentions and some of what the creators wanted to convey. It's not my favorite game of all time, but compared to other games that I'll finish and never think on again this is one that will definitely hang out somewhere in the back of my thoughts, and I'm going to hold the time I took with it fondly.

This game should be on Wikipedia, under the definition of the "hidden gem". Pros: + Bombastically stylish! + Interesting and cool characters. + Amusing and actually entertaining plotline. + Decently implemented turn-based mech combat. + TONS of anime references and plenty of witty lines and good jokes. + Great music/soundtrack. Cons: - Some parts of the game are a lil'bit grindy (I'm looking at you pineapples!) - Imo, the game should have been shorter, there are parts that don't really serve the story and just needlessly extend the playtime. - Some side characters and places could use a bit more exposure/backstory (Mongoose? The R'n'G door? Bartender? Kid? etc.etc.) In overall: Definitely recommended for ordinary gamers and HIGHLY recommended for the anime, mecha and Cowboy Bepop/Tengen-Toppa Gurren Lagan fans in particular. Personal thoughts: Wolfstride is heavily influenced by the anime and otaku culture, especially by the mecha genre in particular. Seasoned fans will immediately spot characters, tropes and mecha designs from many popular titles. Despite the reference galore and dozens of silly jokes - the game manages to avoid falling into the "mindless gag" category and tells a strong (albeit a bit cliched) story. Another prominent side of the Wolfstride is an outstandingly stylish and bold visual style (black and white, nuar'ish Gurren Lagan? I'll take 2!). Seriously, whoever drew all those characters needs to get a raise. On the downside - travelling between locations and doing minigames gets somewhat repetetive and annoying in the second half of the game, when you want to focus more on the story and the mech fights. It's not up to the point of frustration (and it's not like you HAVE to do it, I just wanted to maxx everything), but it's probably the only aspect of the game that I can complain about in an overally great game. All in all I did enjoy this game quite a lot and it's really a shame that it didn't become popular and flew under many gamer's radars. Even for the full price it's a worthy purchase, but during a big sale on a huge discount - this one is really a no-brainer. Get it, get it, get it!

Hell of a game! It goes all in on the vibe, and really nails it; that sorta Cowboy Bebop, mecha anime style. The soundtrack is killer, the voice acting is all names I've not come across before (as far as I know), but they all put in extremely good performances. And the mech fighting is rather solid, even if you've figured a fight out the sheer style of it all keeps it satisfying to dismantle an opponent! I enjoyed the twists, turns, and complexities, and every advanced part or skill I could scrabble for by maxing out a character's affinity (with a very limited resource, unless I missed ways to get more!) felt like game-changing upgrades. Makes me wonder what special goodies were behind the other characters, since I could only really focus on maxing one, and got a little ways into a second.

Too much Bebop, not enough game. I don’t hate Wolfstride , but let’s be real. The devs clearly mainlined entirely too much Bebop and then decided to make a game out of poop jokes, Gundams, anime ennui, and long pauses where nobody says what they mean. It's stylish. Weird. And frequently cringe by design. Gameplay is there, technically. You walk. You talk. You do favors for tired men, talking animals, and witches with sunglasses. Most of it feels like stalling for time between cutscenes. The mech’s wrecked. The city’s busted. Everyone’s tired, broke, or lying. It’s not really a space western. More like Rocky MXVII: Mecha Rocky . Dragging your dusty-ass rustbucket back into the ring for one last paycheck and maybe a little dignity. I do feel that there’s a very specific breed of Brazilian anime fanboi this was engineered for, and I sincerely hope he’s thriving. This is his moment. This is his Gundam Wing AMV with Portuguese subtitles and Linkin Park moment. To their credit, OTA IMON has style. They know exactly what they’re doing, even if part of what they’re doing is padding the runtime with fetch quests wearing little emotional trench coats and pretending to be character development. I probably won’t finish it, but there is a small chance that I might come back for the Zet Zillions lore. And also because I kinda love Peepoo, the tiny robot who screams his way through (and thus saves, imho) every scene like a dying fax machine. Total MVP. Not really for me. But if this is yours: I see you.
