Hell of a game! It goes all in on the vibe, and really nails it; that sorta Cowboy Bebop, mecha anime style. The soundtrack is killer, the voice acting is all names I've not come across before (as far as I know), but they all put in extremely good performances. And the mech fighting is rather solid, even if you've figured a fight out the sheer style of it all keeps it satisfying to dismantle an opponent! I enjoyed the twists, turns, and complexities, and every advanced part or skill I could scrabble for by maxing out a character's affinity (with a very limited resource, unless I missed ways to get more!) felt like game-changing upgrades. Makes me wonder what special goodies were behind the other characters, since I could only really focus on maxing one, and got a little ways into a second.

Hesitant Recommendation. But If you ever wanted to play a giant robot turned based role playing game with customizable robot parts this is the game for you. I kinda just poured out my feelings of this game so be advised there might be potential spoilers but no plot points spelled out. The major problem is the story although it's gameplay has some rough patches itself, it feels like it needs a sequel to explain everything that happened. You play two characters, Dominic Shade a man running away from his past with a dreary perspective on life and Knife Leopard, the Mecha pilot who has this unyielding optimism looking on the bright side of things. Together they are giving a mysterious robot from their deceased friend. Their Goal? Make it to Number 1 in the Robot Fighting Ranking system and get a big payout. Shade is our prominent protagonist he's the one who we see the most of however he works kinda like a manager setting up matches and doing menial tasks. Throughout the game you are giving a couple of mini games you can do that get you money, for repairing your Mecha after a fight, parts for your Mecha, and Pineapples, gift you gift to specific people who then reward you by gifting parts and tools making most parts you get in mini games obsolete. Tools are either used to make mini games easier, giving you more prizes at once, or makes the prices of repairs go down but because all the stuff you get in minigames are randomized you could just keep on rerolling until you get every pineapple you need and you have almost all the parts your Mecha will need till end of the game as early as the third fight of the game. Shade is the main focus of the story we see a lot of stuff from his point of view but he ultimately struggles by being a character who either monologues or lectures someone into a monologue about how hard life is and that he is not suited to live a happy life. However the gameplay he gets to do actually ties into his themes because he's basically tasked with running errands that bring him everywhere in the over world forcing him to create bonds with people showing that even if he wants to he can't escape being involved with people's live. Shade also gets involved helping a dying business by investing money and then he can get daily profits, however just because doing the mini games has no cap per day there's not a real reason to invest. Knife Leopard is your other playable character, you only play him during the mecha fights but his gameplay is super customizable. After the third fight I believe you are given all these options for customizable stuff that make it hard to try out everything in one play through. Active skills, Passive Skills, Underlying ability traits, and even Support Skills this game give you a load out and then some that's completely customizable. You can make your Mecha a full Melee unit, A long ranged gun user or a mid ranged all rounder. I went with Melee unit and it was a fun time, Guns are fine however you'll need to equip mecha parts that give you more ammo slots and you will constantly need to have one of your passive skill slots to be reloading ammo. The ability traits you are given are stuff that help increase your support meter quickly so you can use support skills that buff your mecha. The traits are correlated to stuff you can do on the battlefield which can be something as simple as getting hit a lot, making your support meter go up. The battle field is a straight line of boxes, using your robot's movement point you can position yourself where you want so you can deal optimal damage. There's a couple of squares in combat boosting or debuffing your attack, push someone to the edge and you've deadlocked them, making you deal exponentially more damage. The biggest problem I had is sometimes the battles went on for a bit and it seemed more chore then challenge most of the time. Overall fun Combat. Knife Leopard as a character is told much from Shade's story. You more or less only use Knife Leopard for the robot fights otherwise he's at the base of operations majority of the time. It's implied that he's supposed to be very handsome which is I guess it's just not fully verbalized people think he's super hot and more you'll have to go through at least two people in the main cast of characters hit on him exactly once. For the most part his overlaying optimism and naivete should be a good parallel to Shade ultimately they kind of don't even feel connected. Biggest problem is Shade's struggles feel out of place with the big Robot tournament going on. It honestly feels more like both sides clash with eachother instead of helping making the game better and that is unfortunate. The rest of the cast of characters are fun and quirky the type of supporting cast that each character has hints sprinkled throughout the story about what they were before meeting them but still enough that isn't shown to us that you can make your own conclusions. *Major Spoiler* There are two major points in the story that make next to no sense to me. There's a point where cultist are slowly showing up and finally one day they enact a plan, however that day is so weird and different to every day before hand where it starts eerie and has the cast be put in the middle of the ritual with no context how they got there. This was the weirdest moment but the worst part about all this is that the main characters AGREE TO NEVER MENTION THIS AGAIN AND FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THIS. Technically it gets referenced again but they don't really acknowledge the event and more of the mech you encountered in that event. Then the other thing is at the right end of the tournament for the strongest robots it's revealed that one of the benefactors for this tournament was secretly using this to create ultimate robot and goes on a speil about government and the United States that just feels so out of place because this game never really made an effort to put in politics as an issue, it shows up sparingly kinda but it's only ever made by a couple news stories never by actual characters that matter. So the entire plot point feels more like a hamfisted attempt at being political like they just remembered they were a mecha game and they had to put in politics at the near end so they did. It doesn't even matter because the game's ending doesn't focus on the poltic spiel at all, they could remove it and the game doesn't change at all. *end of spoilers* Also the art style is kinda cool but the 16bit sprites people have and the clean hi res art the robots and background clash at times but overall esthetically pleasing.

Too much Bebop, not enough game. I don’t hate Wolfstride , but let’s be real. The devs clearly mainlined entirely too much Bebop and then decided to make a game out of poop jokes, Gundams, anime ennui, and long pauses where nobody says what they mean. It's stylish. Weird. And frequently cringe by design. Gameplay is there, technically. You walk. You talk. You do favors for tired men, talking animals, and witches with sunglasses. Most of it feels like stalling for time between cutscenes. The mech’s wrecked. The city’s busted. Everyone’s tired, broke, or lying. It’s not really a space western. More like Rocky MXVII: Mecha Rocky . Dragging your dusty-ass rustbucket back into the ring for one last paycheck and maybe a little dignity. I do feel that there’s a very specific breed of Brazilian anime fanboi this was engineered for, and I sincerely hope he’s thriving. This is his moment. This is his Gundam Wing AMV with Portuguese subtitles and Linkin Park moment. To their credit, OTA IMON has style. They know exactly what they’re doing, even if part of what they’re doing is padding the runtime with fetch quests wearing little emotional trench coats and pretending to be character development. I probably won’t finish it, but there is a small chance that I might come back for the Zet Zillions lore. And also because I kinda love Peepoo, the tiny robot who screams his way through (and thus saves, imho) every scene like a dying fax machine. Total MVP. Not really for me. But if this is yours: I see you.

I'm a bit divided, I'll review it as positive to help the developers, but it's borderline. The game is a visual novel with mini-games and a very simple turn based mecha fighting, but most of the game loop is walking around town checking if there are events or not. It has a unique charm to the characters and you can tell the developers love video games with the references they added. It's visual style and art is great and they come along with a decent soundtrack plus ok mini-games. The problem is the game loop just isn't great and will get really tiring if you don't realize the loop of the first days should be ignored and you should skip the day if there are no tasks. The mecha fight are to simplistic, although its aesthetics are great, after a couple of them it gets monotonic and boring. The characters are sort of fun but there's never a clear narrative in the game tying it all together, most main points are kind of pointless and not really that fun or captivating as they are presented.
