Driving here requires precise calculations and a good feel for the vehicle; even a slight miscalculation can cause the car to slide and lose traction, making it difficult to control and leading to a crash or even a plunge into a ravine. The driving experience feels like a full-fledged racing simulation rather than an arcade game—a realization that quickly dispelled my initial assumption that driving would be easy, especially after my car repeatedly crashed and skidded off the edge, ending up looking more like a lump of cake batter than an actual vehicle.
WRC 7 blew up in popularity shortly after the hit domestic Chinese movie Pegasus came out. I bought it back in May when it was on sale. WRC 7 has built up quite a reputation in the racing‑game community these days. I’ve clocked nearly 100 hours of playtime on it. When I was younger, I was big into QQ Speed, but as real‑life responsibilities piled up over time, I gradually drifted over to FPS and TPS titles. This game has given me plenty to reflect on, starting with the overall gameplay experience. Right when you launch it, you’re greeted by a solid roster of cars, followed by a sizable selection of tracks. Still, one important heads‑up: before you boot the game, you have to switch your PC input method to a US‑based keyboard layout. Otherwise, when you steer your car with the keyboard, you will run into stuttering and choppy input lag. Beyond the standard third‑person camera, there is a hotkey that cycles through perspectives to show off the car from virtually every angle. Even after all my hours playing, I still struggle with many of the hairpin turns. Without plenty of practiced skill, clipping the kerbs will send your car practically flying off the ground — I’ve still got lots of practice ahead of me. I think WRC 7 and its other iterations hold up really well. What’s more, the game takes up relatively little storage space. All things considered, it’s a great title. I’d give it a full five‑star rating — “hāng!”
I genuinely think WRC 7 is one of the most underrated rally game in WRC franchise. It doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves. The biggest improvement over the previous games is the handling. The cars feel much more responsive and enjoyable to drive, making every stage feel rewarding while still demanding precision. It was a noticeable step forward and made me enjoy the game much more than its predecessors. The scenery is another highlight. Whether you're racing through forests, mountains, villages, or narrow countryside roads, every rally has its own unique atmosphere. The environments may not be the most graphically advanced today, but they're still beautiful and do a great job of capturing the feeling of rally racing. I know the engine sounds received some criticism, but honestly, I think they're pretty good. They might not be the most realistic compared to some other rally games, but they've never taken away from my enjoyment and fit the experience well. My only real complaints are the lack of a photo mode, which feels like a missed opportunity considering how scenic many of the stages are, and the limited options for customizing the time of day and weather conditions before a rally. Having more control over those settings would have added even more replay value. Overall, WRC 7 deserves far more recognition than it gets. If you're a rally fan, don't let the mixed opinions put you off.
