I played for a while and what can I say... The game looks good, feels the same and in general, it pleasant. But Im a child of the 2000s and I lived and grew up on the fast and furious movies and EA games, namely the need for speed. And I didnt like the game because I didnt have that "need for speed" hahahaah. I recommend it only because of the very good graphics and realistic controls. Buy it only with a discount!
There are other rally games out there with more 'secondary' content (WRC 8+, DiRT and DR2.0), with more of a high-octane approach, and with a more attention-demanding (per se) handling system. WRC 5 is, by comparison, pretty simplistic. You have a good amount of tracks, a reasonable amount of WRC-1 and WRC-2 cars (and the lone DS3 R3T for Junior WRC), and the basic fixed goal of Winning As Much As You Can. That's it. There's a team morale system of some sort, I guess, but it just kinda exists and you can max it out fairly easily - provided that you drive within reason and place on the podium as much as possible. Which I think is practically guaranteed, because in the ~10 rallies or so that I've played in Career, every single bloody stage has ended with me in first even if I made any number of mistakes or suffered any kinds of crashes. Your guess is as good as mine as to why it effectively rigs the odds in your favor. On paper, I think most of what's been listed would turn me off. In practice, this all adds up to an experience that's equally... cozy and entertaining? Several times now, I've tuned out anything in the background, lowered the ambient/engine SFX below that of the co-driver and then got out on some stage in Argentina or France or wherever and just... rallied for a good while. There's still a good deal of pressure even with the effectively nonexistent CPU competition - one still wishes to hit the checkered flags with a nice time, maybe even get a good spot on the leaderboards with it - but overall, it's a very temple-rubbing game, y'know? Type of thing that I happily fire up for a half-hour or so after coming home, that sort. (Granted, your mileage may vary depending on your familiarity with racing games in general, but. Nevertheless.) And even if it wasn't as nice as it is: I got this thing on a non-seasonal sale for a buck . Not two, not three, not even a reasonable five. A singular euro. For that price point, even if it was a bit more middling or barebones or just kinda whack altogether, I don't think I'd be particularly aggrieved. Pretty easy rec, altogether, for anyone who wants a more straightforward approach to rallying (or is looking to dip their feet into it). Though I'd advise you to brush up on your knowledge of pace notes beforehand.
