I've seen that a lot of negative reviews of this game are due to technical issues, and that's completely valid, but such a shame. So get this and install it before you start playing to fix all of the major issues. https://github.com/DErDYAST1R/Zombi-u-patch (I used the patch without Reshade, so 1.0. I think it looks better naturally.) This is the only game I was truly terrified of when I was little, and so it felt amazing to beat on permadeath. Zombi is just genuinely such a great horror game, with some jank and odd parts for sure. I understand the story, but it overall wasn't the main focus. The guns are also kinda cursed, but I do love that you're really incentivized to use them instead of hoarding ammo. Don't do that if you play this game so you can level skills with weapons. The atmosphere and the stress you will feel playing this game are genuinely so hard to come by nowadays. It's really worth a shot if you love horror games.

The game has a major issue: most of the sounds don't work. There's no fix for this on PCGamingWiki, and you have to rely on other people online to provide files from earlier versions of the game. That said, this is one of the very few zombie survival games I'd actually call good. It manages to maintain a bleak atmosphere throughout the entire story. Each location feels unique and memorable, and I appreciated the little details – like how the main character reacts to the environment. Zombies can drag you out of holes and ventilation shafts; they can even pull you up or down ladders. If they manage to bite you, it’s game over – you'll respawn as a different character. Details like these make the game feel immersive – and honestly, I think they’re really cool. I wouldn't call Zombi a difficult game. I never died during my first playthrough, so I didn’t get to experience the character-switching mechanic. This is probably because I’ve played No More Room in Hell a lot, which has a similar but much more challenging zombie management system. In that game, the number of zombies is overwhelming, while in Zombi, even so-called "hordes" can often be handled with just a cricket bat. At one point in the story, the game tries to convince you to rush, but there are no real consequences for taking your time. In fact, it's better to fight and loot zombies, as you’ll get more items. I expected inventory management to play a big role, but I found that I only really needed one medkit, a few guns, and some ammo for each mission. Mission items and upgrades have their own inventory slots, so they don't get in the way. Ammo can be scarce at times, but if you conserve it, you’ll end up with plenty of pistol rounds and a small amount of other ammo types. SMG ammo is especially rare, which is frustrating considering how quickly those guns burn through it. The ending doesn’t explain or resolve much. That would be fine if a sequel were on the horizon – but it’s not. Still, the overall experience is pretty fun. I finished the game on standard mode without dying, but in survival (permadeath) mode, I died from stupid things – like stepping on a landmine or getting overconfident and cornering myself in. It’s a shame we’re not likely to see more of this series, because Zombi is a genuinely enjoyable game.

UPDATE: It seems Ubisoft or Valve released some kind of patch or update for this title, and my copy is now running smooth. Be advised, there is another review here that explains on going into the files itself and downloading a specific Ubisoft software; this is what I did and I followed their instructions to the letter. With that, it is still a way bigger hassle to have to download 3rd party software just to run one game, and so for the technologically savvy, I recommend this. For those of you out there that are wanting something to be able to play on download, I would pass this one up until it goes back on sale.

This game is great! To all of the people who are having trouble launching the game because of Uplay. Go into the game location folder and launch the Ubiconnect installer. Launch the app and log into your Ubisoft account or create one if you don't have an account and link the game to your newly created account. The game launches just fine on windows 11. Should work fine on windows 10 as well. As for the game play and graphics, the game play is good, I have loved the game since it came out on the WiiU. The graphics are good considering how old the game is. So that doesn't bother me. I play a lot of older games as well as newer games.
