Yes, the story is forgettable. Yes, Arno isn't exactly the most memorable Assassin in the series. Yes, the game launched as a complete disaster and you'll still spot the occasional bug years later. But damn, Paris carries this game hard. The city feels alive in a way few open-world games ever managed to replicate. Crowded streets, massive landmarks, incredible lighting and one of the best parkour system the franchise has ever had. Running across rooftops, slipping through windows and disappearing into crowds never gets old. I didn't care much about the plot but I had an absolute blast just existing in this world. Ubisoft may have fumbled the launch, but underneath all that was one of the most immersive Assassin's Creed games ever made. Flaws and all I'd still recommend it.
*Played on Steam Deck* (No story spoilers) *I have to say this at the beginning since everyone treats Unity as the black sheep of the franchise: Playing this game in 2025 is amazing, and it barely has any bugs at all during my playtime. Its flawless and so good! Please give this game a chance! **Also PLEASE play this game in FRENCH with english subtitles. You will thank me for this. Because f_ck is this a horrible dub in English with the british accents everywhere. Even the voice actors are lifeless. The French voices and accents are PERFECT. This is very crucial to enjoy the game. ...Now for the review: As of writing this, I'm pretty much done with the main story. I only have one more sequence left, but I decided to write the review NOW since my opinion is still FRESH from playing. Why? Because I intend on taking a little break from the game due to burnout and life, but wanted to give a solid and fair score for this game. But we have to talk about the STRUCTURE and NARRATIVE of this game because its all over the place. Its just a mess. Not necessarily the story, but how things are laid out. My biggest issue with Unity is that all missions from side quests are open from the START and they take place during different times and years during the French Revolution, and you might encounter a lot of spoilers if you decide to just do side quests blindly without a guide! So do like me and google a chronological list (order) of when to start what mission. There is an excellent guide on reddit for this! BUT because of this flaw in the narrative, I felt forced to do a lot of missions that interrupted the flow of the main story. I still have so much to do before doing the very last sequence, but I have to play it canon-wise and in chronological order because that's just who I am with games and history. Unity does a lot so perfectly, but the narrative and story falls flat. To me, Unity would have been the best entry in the franchise if it weren't rushed to release. Arno, the main character, had so much potential with his wit, charm. Paris itself is so beautiful and densly packed that its the best open world (city) we have gotten in any AC game. Actually lets talk about the open world of Unity a little: Paris is without a doubt the most beautiful city Ubisoft has created. Period. For real, Ubisoft really suprised me with how alive Paris feels in this game. And OMG THE NPCS! They actually look and behave like humans, and THE SHEER AMOUNT OF NPCS ON THE SCREEN is bloody amazing. How does this game even run smoothly with so many people packed on your screen!? NEVER HAVE I SEEN ANY OTHER VIDEO GAME have this many NPCS and I don't understand how they did it, and why its not in future AC games. My next praise is the parkour and combat. The parkour in this game is the best hands down in the series. Its so fluid, flowy and fun to execute and do! Its the animations that makes the parkour here feel so damn good. Its a shame we only saw this kind of parkour in Unity and nowhere else... But I understand why, since Paris had so much architecture to play with. The combat is on the hardest its ever been in the series, and I'm all about that! Its amazing to actually feel scared to enter combat, and think if its worthwhile to battle or run. Its very challenging until you get better armor and weapons, and even then you have to stay on your toes. Unity is just... So damn good, but its a shame it was rushed in production. This could have been the best game for many of you, but it has its flaws, but even so, I think its my new favorite in the AC saga. I love the parkour, combat and Paris. Its a treat to experience. The story is good, but underdeveloped very quickly. But overall, I gave this game a 8 croissants out of 10 bagguetes. If it weren't for the stupid side quests it would have gotten a perfect score. They should have been progress locked, same with the DLC. Score of Assassin's Creed Unity: 8 / 10 🥐🥖
Assassin’s Creed Unity still holds up amazingly well. Paris is one of the most beautiful open-world cities ever made, with incredible detail in every street, crowd, and building. The parkour system is smooth, fast, and still feels ahead of its time. Pros Stunning graphics and atmosphere Huge, detailed Paris to explore Improved parkour & climbing Fun combat and customization Co-op missions are enjoyable with friends Great soundtrack and historical setting Cons Story is decent but not the best in the series Occasional bugs, but much improved over launch Overall Unity today is one of the most underrated Assassin’s Creed games. With the patches and updates, it’s absolutely worth playing in 2025. 8.5/10 – Highly Recommended

As a game, it’s a mix of brilliance and bloat moments of pure assassination artistry tangled in franchise repetition. If you play it now, patched and polished, you’ll find a flawed masterpiece one that dared to push crowd simulation, architectural fidelity, and mission design into new territory, even if it stumbled on the cobblestones.
