⭐ Positive for the game. Negative for Ubisoft's support. Assassin's Creed is a legendary game. It's the title that brought millions of players together and the foundation that turned Ubisoft into one of the biggest names in gaming. As a game, it's an absolute classic and deserves respect for what it achieved. Unfortunately, the PC version in 2026 feels abandoned. The first thing many players experience is a random crash at launch with no explanation. The only real solution is to install community-made fixes. Thankfully they work, but players shouldn't have to rely on modders just to launch a game they legally purchased. Then there's the infamous high FPS bug. The game engine simply wasn't designed to run above 59–60 FPS, causing issues such as the well-known hay jump bug. After hours of researching and experimenting, I managed to work around it by modifying engine behavior and creating my own keybind-based solution. I won't share the technical details because they rely on exploiting the game's engine. And that's exactly the problem. Players shouldn't have to reverse-engineer a game just to make it work correctly on modern hardware. Ubisoft had nearly two decades to release an official fix, yet the community has done more to keep this game alive than the developers themselves. Yes, I only paid around €2 during a sale, but even at that price, I can't honestly recommend it to someone who just wants to install and play. Expect crashes, compatibility issues, and technical problems before you even get to enjoy the masterpiece underneath. It's also disappointing to see publishers continue selling old games in broken states without updating them for modern systems. In my opinion, digital storefronts should require games to meet basic compatibility standards before continuing to sell them. Despite all of that... Assassin's Creed is still one of the greatest games ever made. The atmosphere, the music, the cities, Altaïr, and the feeling of being an Assassin are timeless. It's a true GOAT and a piece of gaming history. The game deserves 10/10. The PC support from Ubisoft deserves 2/10.
(Fix the AC1 stuttering/freezing issue below) The AC1 story just adds to the AC franchise and in my opinion you should still play this to understand the full story when playing your way through the full franchise. Some sections of the game can be annoying and repetitive but remember it is an old game and still deserves its props. This is still a great game with beautiful graphics and gameplay to say its from 2007. If anyone like myself has issues running the game on pc that causes stuttering, lagging and freezing during gameplay look below and follow the steps. I am not a very tech savvy person and manged to do this any issues search the internet and follow carefully, I didnt find this Fix luckily I was sent it from a discord member so Champion to us all, I thought for fellow players it might do well being put here aswell. Hope it helps :) To fix the AC1 stuttering/freezing issue, you can follow these steps: Open up notepad as administrator Go to File > Open Set the file opening window to "all files" instead of "text documents" (bottom right menu box) Navigate to Windows/System32/drivers/etc Open the hosts file Paste the following lines at the bottom: 127.0.0.1 gconnect.ubi.com 203.132.26.155 127.0.0.1 #Obsolete Ubisoft Server 127.0.0.1 uts.ubi.com Save and close Rerun AC1 Bonus tip: Please turn V-Sync (Vertical sync in the game's settings) on, and lock fps to 60 if possible
I should probably start with the flaws first. Being an older game now, some of the models and textures are quite dated but no issues with me but I can see that for other players. The story can sometimes be very repetitive too. also the combat can feel very janky at times too. But besides a few issues you will get from an older title, I personally enjoyed my time playing this one. It was something new and fun for that time (Before Ubi milked the sh!t out of this series). I really liked Desmond's and Altair's stories. A solid first game that should be played for any Assasin Creed fans out there. Honestly they should do a remaster like 3 and now 4 are getting.
