I just got the completionist for this game in 55h really taking my time and messing around with everything the game has to offer I wanna start by saying that this game is literally the clunkiest game I've ever played in my life, and I've been playing video games non stop for about 25 years. I really enjoyed it but god damn, let's do a simple good and bad list, starting with the bad to get it out of the way. Weaknesses: - The combat feels like it was made clunky on purpose, probably to try and get a Dark Souls feel to it but it's freaking horrible. Every attack is painfully slow while the enemies' aren't, which makes it feel really unfair, the hitboxes are quite messed up and the movement also is, like your character aiming at a completely different direction sometimes when you're locked on something, getting blocked on an invisible wall, it's things like that constantly and by far the worst aspect of the game imo - The targeting system is terrible. Elites/bosses have several parts and each can be locked on individually, but since they constantly spawn adds that you generally wanna get rid of asap they're usually really hard to switch to with the game's locking system. Why? I don't know, but it made me die a lot of times so I do recommend to get rid of the smaller enemies without using it, it just makes the process easier - NPCs. This game is known for having bad dialogues and it's pretty true so to speak, but more than that it's the fact that they constantly repeat the same one line of dialogue each time you pass by them even when a certain event should change what they say. IE: when a person asks you if you can help them and still do after you finish their quest, it makes no sense and breaks immersion. That and also the fact that they don't do anything apart from standing around or cycling through the one animation that was given to them, for that reason the world kinda feels lifeless. - The balancing around essence shards is just not there, there are too many ways to become invincible/one shot every enemy in the game and it's not hard at all to get the components for those builds, I messed around with those a little before switching to fairer builds which made it a bit more enjoyable - The animations are not that great imo Strengths: - The combat. Although it's clunky as hell I really enjoyed it, picture something between Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter but way simpler, if you're willing to be patient with this game it will reward you with a lot of fun - The build system is pretty good, intuitive and there are a lot of interesting builds to make. Some builds will make you OP really fast though as mentioned above, try them out and let them go because they're fun but also take every risk out of the game - Sand sliding, probably the most unique feature of this game and the reason why most people wanted to play it, it's fun, I just wish you could go faster - It doesn't drag on forever, it's a straightforward game that doesn't try to trick you into playing longer than necessary by bloating up the map with too many useless objectives, those open world activities are there but it felt like the right amount - The story is okay, I enjoyed it There you go, thank you for reading, I do recommend this game and although it has flaws, I felt it grow on me the more I was playing it and I ended up having a really good time with it. I just started a new game+ playthrough despite getting the completionist because it's just pretty fun, I feel like overall this is an underrated game but people not liking it is definitely understandable TLDR: This game is the game I would use if I had to explain what "clunky" is, but it's pretty damn good imo, it's also not too long which is a good thing.

After 100% completing Atlas Fallen, I think I can safely give it somewhere around a 7.5/10. PROS -Build your own character with a decent creation system. -Huge variety of ways to customize the abilities of your character. -Sand surfing is pretty rad. -Abilities and enemies are pleasing thematically and aesthetically. -Can transmogrify your gear to various other armor sets and unlock a ton of different dyes to heavily customize your look. CONS -Optimization issues. I can get close to 150 FPS but the game has lots of minor stuttering despite that no matter what I did. -The enemy targeting system doesn't feel quite as snappy or responsive as I would like. -Lack of transparency. You don't feel like you fully understand what exactly many of the ability modifiers actually do. For example, you can equip a stone that says "Increase damage", but it doesn't tell you how much damage and there's no way to view it. -One of the perks doesn't appear to work as intended. You can unlock the ability to detect treasures nearby and your gauntlet is supposed to react to their proximity. It doesn't. NEUTRAL -The game appears to want you to explore naturally for a lot of things like treasure instead of relying on the map. You can find vantage points that reveal the locations of things like treasure, but it doesn't actually place markers anywhere. If you're the type that likes to wander around and search every nook and cranny, this might be a plus. For me, it felt more like I was wasting a lot of time running in circles. I won't hold encouraging exploration against a game, just felt a bit more tedious than rewarding for me. -Fairly simple story with relatively basic NPCs. I didn't find this to be a problem with it being such an action forward game though. Got it on sale with no regrets.

Playing on a 1070 from 2016 and the game runs great. Everybody complaining about performance has bigger issues than this game. Also the people calling the combat "sluggish" are either Fry in the episode of Futurama where he drinks 100 cups of coffee or lying. Really great action rpg now, I'm not sure how it was at release but now everything runs great.

First, the game. Then Deck13. Game is gorgeous, open world, lots of sidequests and exploration. "Levelling" mechanic is upgrading certain abilities to do with a god-tier gauntlet affixed to your arm. Story is interesting and doesn't pull you away from the gameplay. The combat is where this game shines. You can fight the same enemies over and over and each time you feel like you could have improved something or pulled another trick out of your hat. Challenging, but not Souls-level. When you hit that magical parry or dodge just right and follow up with a tremendous hit it is satisfying. Lots of stuff to collect as well, so it scratches that itch too. Also just has an awesome sense of style. Very cool, new take I haven't seen in this kind of game. I have a couple complaints about minor things: 1) the voice acting is very overwrought; breathy and soap opera-esque quite a bit of the time. 2) all the chests look exactly the same, the animation for opening them is always exactly the same, and you can find 20 in an hour if you want (there are quite a bit), so you get bored of the same animation over and over if you're looking for items. 3) There are other things, but I can't recall them at the moment. Will add if they come to mind later. Overall, wonderful game worth asking price. 8/10 Now Deck13. I want more funding, more employees and more everything for this company. They have been on an exponential curve of improvement and never leave a game behind. Lords of the Fallen (meh), the Surge (good), the Surge 2 (VERY good), and now this (VERY good, but a completely different genre, so I give them a little bit of leeway for not exceeding my expectations yet again.) Each one of those games you can get relatively cheaply (in the case of the Surge and Surge 2 when they are on sale they're like $5 COMBINED) and they reward you with 30+ hours of game time apiece. Love, love this company. Check out their YouTube sometime.

I am thoroughly impressed by this game. I watched the reviews when the game was released and based on those I chose not to purchase the game. Then I stumbled across a video where a player commented on how responsive the devs were in fixing many of the issues with the game so I decided to give it a try. Mainly because most devs these days think they know better than the customer and we should be happy they let us buy their game. Well I will let you know now that this game and company have impressed me.
