A wonderful metroidvania that doesn't overstay its welcome. The world is fun to explore and there's a lot of optional collectibles and abilities to keep you looking around. Combat can be a bit awkward at times due to the control scheme, but the game is at least fair about its difficulty so that doesn't become too much of an issue.

I didn't 100% the game as I have other things to play on mind but what I played was still easily recommendable. Ato faces the typical metroidvania struggles where you can often get confused as to where you should progress, and the feeling of demotivation at the thought of back tracking to different areas where abilities now unlock new paths. The movement and platforming does alleviate a bit of the boredom from exploring these zones though and it does have a fast travel feature to skip long trips. More so, Ato heavily makes up for these periods of empty travel with quite engaging puzzles and extremely entertaining boss battles. Every boss battle I encountered in this game had a very unique feeling moveset which pushed me to explore different combat strategies will all of the movement abilities I picked up throughout the playthrough. It doesnt fall into the trap of having most bosses just be repeatedly dodge-through-attack-retaliate with a sprinkle of 'gimmick' bosses which have a very particular strategy to make it an easy win once you figure it out. Ato really feels like every boss should be beaten with your own personal playstyle. It borrows from hollow knight in the best ways possible, allowing you to pogo and dash over your opponent and just dance around them effortlessly, while also including mechanics for parrying. It's a very satisfying and responsive gameplay which will absolutely suit anybody who enjoyed the fights in hollow knight.

There's underrated, and then there's this gem. Had such a blast I beat it in one sitting. Definitely on the shorter side for MVs but it's so much fun. I honestly did not expect much at all going in, but this jumped up to one of my favorite MVs.

Absolutely gorgeous Metroidvania. It's quite sui generis with essentially it all being bosses and platforming challenges as opposed to any of the more regular rooms you might expect. After the intro portion things open up massively with there being quite a bit of entirely optional content, so much there's more than a few things you might end up doing "out of order". There's a nice narrative going on, though don't expect any deep lore dive: there's no diegetic text and while there is decoration the entire "why" is up for interpretation. After a bit of casual exploration I managed to grab almost everything (there's one pick up that eludes me but I am guessing some very basic canvasing will reveal it to me). Anyways, final minor nipicks: * There's tons of hidden passages which get kind of evened out by your map telling you all of a room's exits, but it doesn't feel as natural as in other games. * One optional "late" game powerup makes some invisible things visible, which make a few jumps seem almost reachable at first until you realise you just didn't have the right equipment. * The damage balancing seems quite uneven, with some bosses or particularly some attacks seemingly eating through your health out of nowhere. And while most attacks are well calculated to be counterable with some particular strategy, a few did end up feeling somewhat random (though this might be on me for hyperfocusing). * Your character speed starts a bit slow for the size of the map. Fortunately you do end up getting a run technique (which has no stamina).
