Sept. 2025
[Warning! Long review! Lots of yapping ahead!] I REALLY want Steam to have the "Maybe" or somewhere in-between option when reviewing anything. This game is the epitome of "would maybe recommend" to me, because for every good thing it does, the game really has five bad things or poorly implemented things in stead of that one good thing. [Gameplay] Gameplay is ALMOST fun, especially after patches, the enemies are no longer walking sponges with slow movement, and mind-numbing process of dispatching, but then you walk up too close and realize that the attacks of every enemy are telegraphed so poorly, you're just questioning how your HP goes from full to zero in 0.2 seconds, with no way to tell where the damage came from and no way to know how to avoid said damage. [Progression] The progression is nothing groundbreaking, yet ALMOST fun, you really can feel as if stats you level influence the way your character deals more damage and shorter cooldowns make you engage with the game mechanics more consistently. But then you realize that the main way you level your stats is gold, and killing enemies is not really an incentive. What you really are relegated to do is to walk around and shoot the goddamn crystals if you actually want to make feasible amounts of gold by the end of your run. How do I know? I ended up with 40 gold at the end of a complete run once. How is it that you're not incentivized to kill in a bullet heaven game is beyond me. [Movement] The movement is ALMOST good, yet despite you having two dashes, you really feel those seven seconds of cooldown somehow, because the game really needs you to move, which is a good thing, but then makes nearly every threat faster than you, incentivizing the usage of dash/double jump but sometimes you get killed so fast you can't even do double jump because of the poor enemy attack hitbox telegraphing, so you die mid-air, happened to me plenty enough times to remember and mention it in this review. Also, despite having the hitbox frames outlined for mid-boss/boss projectiles, they're a big fat lie, the projectiles often hit me way before they reach me. Teleporting snakes is just ridiculous. If they have infinite teleports, why can't the players have infinite dashes, it's literally impossible to properly hide from their constant attacks. [Visuals] The visuals are great, the OST is... passable. I can't say I like the design of any character aside from Captain Rose, which is a shame because it's a proof that the character designers are able to churn out something great, but then the rest of the cast just looks so boring. I also don't like Bonnie. I get that she's supposed to be a bunnygirl, but she just looks like she's been stricken with... a [you-know-what] syndrome, I'm sorry. Especially the tooth/teeth that stick out? Doesn't look endearing to me personally, it just sticks out in an unpleasant way. Every other character is just generic-looking, and also not in a good way. Again, give whoever came up with Captain Rose a raise, incentivize better designs, idk. [Misc] This game genuinely can be Ratchet & Clank/Jak & Daxter meets Risk of Rain, but it constantly shoots itself in various limbs. If you want to incentivize exploration and movement, add more variety to it, add more side-tasks outside of "the zone did x for you/has offer for you". The things that the game takes from other games don't feel like the way they wanna make a difference in the implementation of those things, is a good way of doing it. Sometimes, simply copying what worked can be enough. [Why the "Recommended"?] Clearly, devs care about this game, evident by listening to feedback. Some of it may even be from what I said during the "earlier" early access times, who knows. Numerous patches and improvements also suggest that. Some are drastic enough for me to say that this almost isn't the same game people bought early on, even. I wanna create an incentive for the devs to improve, and by my recommendation, acknowledge that I see the passion and potential behind this game. Dunno if the devs will read this, but I'm grateful that this idea saw the light of day, and I hope you'll bring it to a properly challenging yet satisfying state, even if I can't say that I have had much fun in the ten hours I played. I hope to have fun though, and I hope that this can serve as enough to read and take into consideration, both for the developer and a potential buyer. It has plenty going for it, I just hope to see it all polished.

'Cautious recommend' at the moment. Overall had a lot of fun with this. Am a big Risk of Rain 2 fan, as well as games like Roboquest, Witchfire, Gunfire Reborn, etc, and this title slots well into the 'roguelite shooter' genre. The movement is a strong suit. My feedback on improvement below should be caveated with this all in mind - this was fun + addicting and there is a lot of potential. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: (1) FPS drops/ optimisation - sometimes reaching 50 FPS (my PC has a 3080 & averages 244 FPS in CS2) - particularly where there are a lot of enemies on screen; (2) cannot reset keybinds for some reason, there is a keybind which says 'reload' on R which does nothing for me; also cannot bind to mouse buttons; (3) sensitivity only in increments of '0.1' which makes it hard to be precise; (4) characters not differentiated enough, they basically have a 'smash' button and a grenade with slightly different stats - I mainly played as the bunny girl because of the base increase to DPS; (5) ROR2 thrives on those moments of occasional quiet/ reflection while a 'build' is made, in this it is balls to the wall action the whole way through with enemies spawning around you constantly (acknowledging that there is 'peace time' occasionally) + the builds end up being pretty similar at the end of each 'picnic.' (6) Overall progression could feel a little more meaningful in order to incentivise 'mega grinds.' At the moment the gameplay is feeling a little stale and that is after c.5 hours. Chasing incremental improvements to stats over time feelsbadman. (7) A few bugs here and there eg the octopus boss spawning outside of the playable area, but nothing game breaking & no crashes.

Been holding off on reviewing the game since I had owned it since it was going to be a maybe, however after the recent changes from the new update I will now recommend the game to people; it used to be a slog to level up, unlock new content however with the recent update this is no longer the issue. It has made playing the game enjoyable with me not being frustrated with it. From things being easier to unlock I do see this game now becoming a shorter time to play currently with how many things you can unlock which is a nice size if you buy it now, however if you have an older save you may end up like me and now have more then half things unlocked and will be able to finish them in a few days. What I hope to see in the future is skins for characters as well skins for weapons that can be unlocked either from achieving something in the game/hidden easter egg or being able to spend the currency you earn on them and which I think will be extremely likely is seeing more characters/items. With the items I hope we will get items that we can buy to increase difficulty like more elite mobs spawning, mobs having more health and being able to fight two bosses instead of just the one (this may be in the game currently but I believe I haven't seen anything of the sort) I have seen a few chest mobs that spawned get either stuck in a path loop or fell off the map where they died and I couldn't get the chest, minor annoyance but still didn't ruin the gaming experience. I have had a few choppy frame moments but it was very minor and with a lot of mobs on the screen so not blaming the devs/game fault. Take note this review is me just playing solo before and after the most recent update so don't know how the co-op experience is but now I feel like I can gift the game with a friend and they will be able to enjoy it as much as I have from this recent patch. TL:DR Good game now from recent patch, minor bugs experienced, high 7/10, will keep review update every few months if I see the need too. :) thank-you for reading, have a lovely day/night

It seems that a lot of bad reviews causing this to currently be "Mixed" were from about 3 weeks ago, and from my experience in the last two days it seems that the devs have addressed a lot of those issues, because there was a bit of early access-style glitchiness but certainly nothing that would make the game unplayable. What's here so far is definitely not a bad replacement for something like Risk of Rain 2 or even something like Back 4 Blood, and I can only hope the devs turn this into something truly spectacular. As is, it's definitely a nice distraction to play either with yourself or with friends.

Great game, even in it's state, I do recommend it. I have an above average PC 4070 Ti and everything that goes with it and still won't hit over 80 fps most of the time on medium/high settings. There is a good performance issue but the game is still worth playing.
