I went into this game completely blind, as in not even knowing what it was about. Imagine my surprise when I learned the story setting, but I settled in and played the whole thing completely through in one sitting. Bear's Restaurant is a lovely little respite from the real world; even though it does deal with what can be considered "heavy" topics, I never felt that they were a: handled in a crass manner and b: that they were hammered home overmuch. The horse was not beaten, so to speak. The art style is pleasant to look at, the dialog engaging enough, the controls very simple and easy to pick up, and overall I enjoyed my experience playing. It took me just a little over 3.5 hours to complete with all achievements. It is very much a story-driven game, about a half a step from a walking simulator. The story IS the game in this case. There are some flaws regarding keyboard controls and unclear instructions but I was able to navigate them after a few minutes of brute forcing things. Sometimes the dialog is a bit awkward and confusing, and there is at least one instance of what I thought would be a big plot point just sort of... ending. Everything else is tied up relatively neatly. That being said, I would not pay full price for this. This is a one off game, where you will likely play to completion and then uninstall it, and I find $13 to be too high for that. I bought this game at about 40% off in a bundle and I would absolutely recommend it at the sale cost. Overall I do recommend Bear's Restaurant and I enjoyed playing it. Just pick it up on sale and don't try to take it for anything more than it actually is.

Bear’s Restaurant is a heartwarming story of love, loss, family and re-uniting. Just make sure to have your tissues ready. Gameplay & Settings This game is a point and click pixel game and if you're using a mouse and keyboard movement for your character is done using the mouse or arrow keys. Settings & extras include; languages, audio controls, action button placement and display options. This game is older so larger resolutions are not supported. I prefer to play in windowed mode for this one personally. The game uses an auto save system so no need to manually save your progress. Trigger warnings The story is about remembering and moving on, a story of love and loss that does not shy away from hard topics. You will play in parts as both Bear and Cat as their stories are intertwined. You serve customers that come into Bear’s restaurant in the in-between. Customers who all ended up there for various reasons. Some are pretty sad and need a warning (such as suicide, murder and terminal illness). So trigger warnings are needed for this game. Overall Experience The main story follows Bear and Cat and how their stories intertwine but you will meet many other characters along the way with their own personal stories to tell. There is bonus content after the main storyline ends so read up on the available guides to find all the secrets and an alternate ending. Guides are not in English but you can use Google Translator to easily change them into the language you need. Also keep the tissues on hand as this one tugs at the heartstrings. No story spoilers here, this is one best to experience going in with no prior knowledge. 💖 [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32732116-IndieGems/] Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.

Cute! Very purely narrative game. I think it handles its themes earnestly and I appreciate the contrasts it draws to solidify them.

Bear’s Restaurant isn’t a game you “play” so much as one you feel. It’s short, quiet, and absolutely loaded with emotion—like a warm cup of coffee shared with an old friend you’ll never see again. You take the role of a cat working alongside a kindly bear in a mysterious restaurant in the afterlife. Your task? Serving the last meals of the departed—whatever they loved most in life. These meals unlock their stories, each one a tiny glimpse into a life once lived, complete with regrets, joys, and sometimes gut-punch sadness. Highlights include: Touching, minimalist storytelling that packs a surprising emotional punch. A unique concept: food as memory, and memory as closure. Subtle but lovely pixel art and a beautiful soundtrack that supports the bittersweet mood. A surprisingly thought-provoking narrative that touches on love, loss, suicide, and what it means to say goodbye. With about 3-4 hours in length, you will enjoy every minute of this narrative-driven experience. TL;DR Bear’s Restaurant isn’t about winning. It’s about understanding. And remembering. Highly recommended for those who want to feel something real in a quiet corner of the afterlife.

I thought it was a cute little game about a bear running a restaurant — but what I actually got was a beautiful, heartfelt, emotional gut-punch that made me cry. A soul-shattering journey through grief, loss, and the bittersweet beauty of memories. Every dish served came with a side of feels — highly recommend. 10/10, suggest having tissues nearby.
