There’s something magnetically terrible about The Metro. It has dark and enclosed tunnels. The lack of quality weaponry. The even lower ammunition. It’s set in a dilapidated and decrepit environment, where the goal is simply to survive. There’s this pervasive feeling of uneasiness that lingers no matter how still the environment is. I’ve literally spent hours just walking the tunnels and listening to people and, believe it or not, some of those moments without even conflict were more memorable than some of the actual confrontations. The Metro doesn’t reshape the world to make it happier and easier. You won’t be the world savior. Bringing you back to the lonely emptiness of the world, it brings you into a personal space that I think a lot of people enjoy; the presence of people, but knowing you’re on your own. This isn’t the most hand-polished and well put together game, but I’d take this over a hundred more open world games who try to fit as many crosshairs and icons to collect into a world all for themselves. All you really need is a dark tunnel, a few ammo rounds, and that awful feeling that you really shouldn’t be traveling that tunnel.
Metro 2033 Redux was my first introduction to the Metro franchise and honestly, it was confusing. The game throws you into a post-apocalyptic Moscow with barely any explanation and expects you to understand the different references, mutants, the Dark Ones, psychic visions and whatever the ♥♥♥♥ is going on with Artyom The atmosphere is also really good. The underground sections are dark, claustrophobic and genuinely uncomfortable, especially when you don't know what's waiting around the next corner. The surface sections are even better because they show just how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the world became after the nuclear war The gameplay is solid. Ammo and resources are limited, so you actually have to think about what you're using instead of shooting everything that moves. The gas mask and filter system is also a good addition, especially during the surface sections. The gunplay isn't anything incredible, but it fits the survival focused gameplay quite well My biggest problem is the story. It's interesting once you understand it, but the game does a pretty poor job of explaining itself to a new player. I spent a good portion of the game wondering what the hell was going on. Then the Dark Ones show up and Artyom starts having visions, making it even harder to tell what's real and whats not. What doesn't help either is the player not being taught about the different mechanics implemented, I found myself googling or looking at binds constantly to do certain things A minor thing to note, Steam overlay did not work for 90% of my time spent in-game for some reason Overall, solid experience. Will dive further into the franchise whenver I get the chance
The atmosphere is unmatched. The dark tunnels, the constant fear, the feeling of being alone it’s intense. You feel weak. Ammo is scarce, filters run out, and every bullet matters. The immersion is raw: your gas mask cracks, your watch shows time, your lighter flickers in darkness. Graphics: Not as flashy as newer games, but the lighting and shadows carry it hard. The Redux version improves textures and performance, but it’s still a “dark beauty” rather than a visual showcase. Emotion & Characters: More subtle here. It’s less about deep relationships and more about survival and mystery. Artyom feels like a silent observer, and the world tells the story. but 8.5/10🤍
the absolute PEAK of gaming right here. dont even read the review just buy it you sausage. 2033 has the best atmosphere by a MILE. from dark, cold n empty moscow to stations of fire, laughter n водка. the sound engine was developed specifically for 2033 and it shows. i have not once in 100s of games heard a game sound so accurate, so real and overwhelming, gunshots recorded in ukranian underground tunnels, footsteps perfectly matching spatial perception. 2014 graphics become irrelevant when you understand how well the atmosphere and sound synergise. the combat is nothing special in all honesty, basic 1st person shooter although decent weapon choice and customisation, but the story is where this game really shines. the world is ending, theres only room for survival, the game forces you to choose between morals yet gives you the option to choose the type of person you want to be. the future seems overwhelmingly bleak, yet you can still find moments of laughter, drinking and reminiscing with your fellow russian comrades. its not just the story thats bleak, its the pressure the game constantly puts you under, reminding you that you're in a time of scarcity, every bullet is a choice – spend it on an enemy or save it to buy filters for your gas mask, either way, you're always running out of something. as a polish man i dont think 4A games could have executed the eastern european / soviet atmosphere any better than they did, if your slavic you will appreciate this game more than most. played at 1440p low settings 60-120fps consistently on a 27 inch monitor, powered by rog ally, zero stuttering or performance issues. flawless execution of a concept, even if not 100% polished. 9.6/10.

The survival elements and limited resources create a tense experience that keeps you focused from start to finish. Some action sections can feel a bit clunky at times, but the exploration and horror moments easily make up for it. The game is also praised for being linear and story-driven without unnecessary open-world filler. Overall, Metro 2033 Redux is an excellent FPS horror experience with a unique world, unforgettable atmosphere, and a strong story. If you enjoy immersive single-player games with survival and horror elements, this game is definitely worth playing.
