Honestly, this visual novel is like a slap in the face in the best way. It tackles both the good and the bad of both queer relationships and falling in love in general. The main characters are incredibly likable, especially the protagonist, Hana. She has a personality you can't help but root for, and the side characters are equally as charming. Every pairing has an interesting story, and even the antagonists have redeeming qualities (except for one. iykyk) I mega recommend not only to yuri fans, to visual novel fans in general. The typing gimmick can be a little clunky, as it sometimes relies on super specific terms, but other than that, this ones a classic that all yuri fans should read.

10/10 EDIT: idk why my playtime isnt synced If you are in any way LGBTQ+ or questioning, play this game. I was surprised not only on the topics brought up but also the quality overall. My only warning is that the topics addressed can be hard/heavy or hit too close to home for some people. ---- Black Lily's Tale is a Yuri Mystery VN that tackles and addresses some heavy topics surrounding LGBTQ+ and same sex/gender romance and romance in general. The writing is amazing(albeit after the retranslation), art and ost is beautiful. The interrupt choice, memorize, and bookmark systems are interesting. Reminds me of Zero Escape mechanics. There is 3 difficulty options ranging from auto memorize and show all hints/highlights, to absolutely no hints or highlights. With the middle option showing only certain hints. Letting you tailor how you want to tackle the mystery. Though if you're going with harder difficulties you may get stuck trying to figure out where to even interrupt or exact words. The retranslation effort fixes the script. There are quite a few minor typos and word spacing issues than I normally ignore but that is most likely due to having to fix the initial english translation. Spoiler thoughts and feelings/mini personal vent(though I'll still try to be vague as I do think it's best to play it yourself) I ended up relating too well to our MC Hana. Her thoughts and actions are for the most part what I would do in her situation. Out of every story ive read played watched etc, only a few really get me as invested in a main cast as Black Lily's Tale did. I can relate to each of the main characters so much I felt anxious for all of them as I realized what was happening. And the antagonists were the only ones I've ever got silently angry and disgusted by out of anything I've read(though I'll admit it's because of how much I can relate to and understand Hana and the themes/topics discussed irl) While some people will argue that the situation is exaggerated due to the setting and science, I argue the exaggeration is there to make the message clear and unavoidable. I love subtlety and everything(not saying there arent subtle details), but having stories that make it as blunt as possible to get it's message across is needed sometimes. Some might think this stuff can't happen irl but no. It does. Maybe not one to one in story but smaller or different ways. Sometimes so subtle the person doesnt realize they are being manipulated. But they hurt just as much or more. Cherish your ability to feel and think for yourself. Sorry for the personal rant. I've been looking for well written Yuri vns, usually mystery, since the day I finished reading Seabed. And character emotion as Everlasting Flowers. Black Lily's Tale delivers that and more with heavier topics I wasnt expecting to see at such quality. Perhaps I might be more biased due to how well I related to the characters and topics irl but at some point you will eventually find some story that does. Highly recommend, worth the read.

This is a very good yuri visual novel with an excellent premise. It uses the setting of a future where a pandemic killed more than half of people under 15, so there is concern about societal collapse. As such, society is even more heteronormative than usual, and it's in this difficult setting that the main character realizes she has feelings for another woman. As with all good science fiction, there's lots of social commentary, and to go along with it you have innovative game mechanics, beautiful art, great voice acting, and excellent character writing. It's a bit heavy at times, so if you're looking for fluffy yuri, stear clear. But this is probably the best visual novel there is when it comes to exploring LGBTQ discrimination and it's challenges.

a beautiful story with gorgeous art and music to compliment it. a solid read for those who love the classic yuri situation of sickly sweet "friendships" while battling internalized homophobia-- but with a unique sci-fi twist. the cast is full of compelling characters, and i was even able to sympathize with the most despicable ones. the character sprites are animated gracefully and add an extra layer of enjoyment to the reading experience. the game play got on my nerves sometimes BUT it felt ultimately gratifying after connecting the dots, and there are different difficulty levels to choose from. the english translation is a little clunky at times as of right now, but there are updates being released to revise it so hopefully those fixes help. otherwise it's still readable if not a little inconvenient at best and confusing at worst. i hope that many other yuri fans play and enjoy :-) trigger warnings (includes spoilers): homophobia, extensive depictions of conversion therapy, aunt/niece incest (not romanticized)

I don't write reviews but I really liked this game, and as of writing I only see like two English reviews for this game so I figured I would write one even though I'm stupid :P The translation can be really rough at times, which stinks because it was already out a while on crunchyroll (who gaf), but as of writing I can see that they're actively working on it, it's not abhorrently bad, but when you get later into the game and with some of the extra content it can be hard to understand at times, names can can be different at times, and pronouns can be mixed up. I've slogged through way worse VN translations because I enjoyed the plot, But I can see it being really hard to understand if your English isn't great, so I'd wait for it to get better if that's a problem. The keyword input feature / gimmick is really good :D It makes you pay attention to the plot instead of just clicking through it. I didn't know what to expect from it at first but it's really not as obtrusive as you would think and sets it apart from any other yuri VN I've played (saying that like there's a ton), you don't really see anything like this in a romance VN and it surprised me. I didn't really need a guide to get through this on the casual setting and that's really impressive because i'm really dumb. The sound design and visuals of this game are beautiful, to me at least, one of the highest quality VNs I've played, I can't think of any other GL VN off the top of my head that is fully voice acted, and has animated sprites, definitely took me by surprise. Having paid DLCs for a visual novel is really quite ick to me but if you really really really like the characters a lot, I guess it's a worthwhile purchase for if you like cute anime girls having wholesome connections with one another or sumn idk. I don't see a reason to be upset with it, the game is worth it already and it's not like they're blocking out crucial plot to DLC. You can be mad if you want though, I'm not your dad, I just thought it was worth addressing. For the amount of content in this game 20 dollars is honestly well worth it, 15 hours as of writing and I still have barely scratched the surface on the amount of content in this game. Whether or not the story is engaging to you is for you to decide but as a lonely chud I found it very touching, I can only describe the story of this game as lesbian MKUltra, it's some crazy poop and I really liked it, the twist and turns are very immense but it does have a happy ending when all is said and done, the love triangle aspect feels forced at times, but they gave everybody a full arc and that's really nice. Whether or not the story is good is subjective to you, or at least up to somebody smarter than me, I just like stories about cute anime girls. 10/10 must buy if u like anime girls doing fruity stuff !!!!
