Blackguards may feel a bit old fashioned, but its gameplay still has plenty of charm. The combat system is not very diverse, yet it is carefully designed and rewards thoughtful decisions. Every encounter demands attention to positioning, abilities, and the environment, which makes victories genuinely satisfying 😊 The story is not the strongest part of the game. It exists mostly to guide you from one battle to the next, following a certain internal logic. The atmosphere also feels outdated, although the music remains surprisingly pleasant and helps set the mood 🎶 Despite its age, you can still sense why this game gained popularity back in 2014. Even so, I hope the game eventually receives a remaster that improves the visuals, refines the gameplay, and enhances the narrative. Blackguards may be old, but it still has its own character and is worth revisiting for fans of tactical RPGs 👍✨

I'm a little conflicted on this one. Giving it a thumbs up as overall, I had a positive experience with Blackguards. The story itself is nothing special but it kept me interested enough to see it through. I'm sure if you're reading this than you are aware that it is an older game and so you're not expecting anything flashy graphics wise. Just one piece of advice: Inform yourself on the game's mechanics and build paths for your character(s). You can have a REALLY bad time if you're not careful. I would recommend this guide, personally: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2077916462 It's very well put together and can give you an idea of what you're getting into. Enjoy!

A lot of complaints about Blackguards don't really hit for me. I really liked the dedication to changing up the area or enemies using spells. I'm quite used to hit chances(sometimes 90% to hit means you DO miss 3 times in a row because it's bad RNG. Sometimes the 10% to hit, hits). I don't find the story too linear or bland considering it was published over a decade ago as of writing. I thought the game playing with companions abilities and presence in the world(they'll speak in dialogue if you pick for them too, etc.) was really neat and I wish more games did that. Is it annoying how weak magic is offensively? Yes, but it also has a lot of support options. Do you have to restart fights often? Yes, it's a tactical focused game. Is it really annoying to have the game dedicated to tracking ammo? Yes, full stop. Is it really annoying to have enemies be resistant to piercing damage despite full build being around piercing damage and have them be massively prevalent? Yes. Is it massively irritating to have a really sizable chunk of enemies be immune to poison, making a starting spell a companion gets worthless in the long run if you put more into it? Yes. Despite all that I have a lot of affection for Blackguards. I think the artistic style is good, I like the tactics, I liked the shaking up of traditional RPG expectations on a mechanics level. Some things were unfair and I DID have to work around that on a meta level with what I was doing and where. I got this game on a heavy sale and liked it. Full price and I would have been less happy. Tips and Tricks for the interested: -I would not invest heavily into Fireball, or any poison spells. -I would invest in healing and support spells with some focus on offense spells. -Ammo is limited in the game, and if you run out in battle you're doing the rest of the fight without arrows. So stock up on arrows to a reasonable level(it's not a critical pressure on Normal) and check before fights if your a Hunter. -This game is buggy. Critically buggy. And it has spelling errors in it. Freezes for no visible reason even though that's rare(it autosaves before each fight, you rarely lose real progress). -ACHIEVEMENTS ARE BROKEN! You cannot get seven achievements in this game, they do NOT trigger. If you goof around .txt files you can trigger it, but uh, not for me. Not tech savvy. These are: A True Stoerrebrandt, Burn the Witch!, Cheated Golgari, Friends for Eternity, Red Salamander, Top of the Food Chain, Traveller

Really rough around the edges, sometimes - unforgivingly brutal old-school tactical RPG. Pretty interesting story and lots of builds to experiment with. Hard to recommend to modern gamers, though :)

Blackguards is a wild ride! I never knew turn-based combat could be this entertaining. The characters are a hilarious bunch of misfits, and their banter kept me chuckling throughout the game. The plot twists are as unexpected as my cat stealing my snacks! If you're looking for a mix of strategy and comedy, this game is a must-play. Prepare for epic battles and laugh-out-loud moments!
