This game has such an incredible way from pivotting from"this is the cutest game ever" to "damn thats messed up!". The dark tones in this game are so fascinating, but when its cute, it literally had me saying "AW" out loud. The story was interesting, and all the different charactes were really cool. I also enjoyed the style and gameplay. A total gem of a game and glad I picked it up after all this time!

This was a game I had found through a Steam Next Fest, and I was excited. To me, this felt like a Little Nightmares meets Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons mashup, which I enjoyed immensely while playing. You play as Olle, a young boy going to rescue his sister after she gets kidnapped. The entire game feels like it's right out of a fairytale, and it really is. Most of the creatures are from Nordic fables, and it really goes in depth with how dark they can be. The devs put in a warning for mature content, and while I was expecting a bit of that, I was surprised by the amount of gore and violence in it. Then again, fairy tales are not always magical, and this certainly plays into the fact that not everything is friendly. The gameplay itself is intermediate in how you play. Moving around and learning the controls is fairly easy since they do teach you early on how to use all of the features. However, the combinations you have to use everything in (crouching and sneaking around, or running and using your light, etc.) can make things difficult. There were a lot of places you couldn't go, which made it easy to figure out where to go next, but it did make achievement hunting specific portions easier. I loved the addition of the storybooks, especially since it gave a lot of backstory to what happened in the story and the origins for some of the villains. The music was gorgeous, and I loved listening to all of it. Every moment had a different feel to it, and it either did a wonderful job of depicting a happy moment or it kept your nerves up and you on the edge of your seat. Everything fit perfectly into the storyline, and the composers did a fantastic job with every song. The achievements themselves are not hard to get if you know what to look for, but do range from story-based and you automatically get them to niche achievements you get by trying something stupid. The range of achievements definitely made it fun to go through and I love the thought that went into them all. Overall, I think this game is absolutely fantastic and is well worth the playthrough. Considering the content inside the game, I don't think it's worth $30 since the game can be completed within a few hours and doesn't have a lot of replayability, but I definitely think it's worth a play. I would probably rate this for older teens/adults just because of the themes and gore the game has, so please play at your own risk! But definitely worth a play!
