Graveyard Shift is a short horror game set during a night shift at a cemetery. You take on the role of an employee whose job is to perform routine tasks around the graveyard and check the individual graves. At first, the setting feels mostly deserted and unsettling, but strange and increasingly disturbing things soon begin to happen. The game relies primarily on atmosphere, tension, and gradually uncovering what is really going on at the cemetery. The story unfolds through exploration, completing tasks, and events that disrupt what initially appears to be an ordinary night shift. You gradually have to figure out what the strange occurrences mean and why the cemetery is becoming an increasingly dangerous place. Graveyard Shift focuses more on psychological horror and atmosphere than on constant action. The result is a compact horror experience that creates a strong sense of isolation, uncertainty, and fear of what might appear during the next night shift. --- 7/10
This is cool - the cemetery setting is definitely spooky. But the game is buggy, the security cameras in the disection hall do not work properly at night making while other cameras show proper night vision mode. Also when people speak I do not see any facial animations. As it is, it feels a bit flat. It is all about "go check this out", "go back to the security booth". The commuting between objectives and security booth is largely unencumbered and there is no "risk" in walking around. In the beginning this is enough, but you soon learn that there are no dangers and the fear factor goes away. The game could do with more roaming the cemetery and spirit torment. Like maybe try to avoid some demons and maybe have to run from them. Some timing elements would add a great level of depth and immersion to the game (which then can be unexpectedly interrupted with jump scares that the developer is so good at). The exploring of the catacombs felt scary and I was constantly waiting for danger and sudden death. It never happened, I roamed the whole thing without a scratch or drop of sweat once I realized that nothing is going to come my way. The meeting with the nun is very obvious and I though it was a wasted opportunity - I would have let her turn around slowly (let the player expect something bad) but let the nun look "normal". Then the security guard should ask her to come to the security booth because it is late at night, then as the security guard turns around, have the demonic nun pop up in front of him. If you have to pick one of DARKPHOBIA games, get Amenti! Everything else feels disappointing after playing Amenti :D
