Cool single-player game with a very interesting story and features, but it has bugs and issues, so buy it only at a 50% discount or more.

Before you start reading, just know I played this game on PC so I don't have the "intended" experience. Pros: + Land/Boarding Combat is decently fun the majority of the time + The trait system is well made + There's not a lot of unnecessary grinding + The game properly rewards you for skill, allowing you to take on much larger ships if you can maneuver and fight well + The weapons are well-balanced, and if you're good at combat the cheap weapons can be the better option + The soundtrack is great, with the right mood usually almost always present through it + The SFX is nice, never feeling unpleasant to listen to + The faction buffs are well-managed Cons: - Towns can feel almost unfair to raid, some of them taking tens of minutes if your Fleet AI isn't performing well - The AI of Allies is very poor, usually taking a long time to capture ships, or downright not boarding ships at all - The towns are usually the same, with only a few variants for each town size - You have to capture a new enemy ship every time you want to upgrade it if you want a specific faction buff. (This is an issue because factions like Spain and Britain have buffs mostly only good earlier-game) - There isn't any way to get your fleet to focus on a target - The NPCs only have a few dialogue options, so there isn't much of a reason to talk to them. Suggestions: -Add new dialogue options -Make the various towns more unique -Make it possible to buy faction buffs for your ships by sneaking into an enemy port and buying a ship there. -Allow the Player to order their ships to focus on a target -Rework the AI of Allies I'll try to keep changing this review by adding new suggestions as I play more and removing things if they add/fix them! :)

Buccaneers has simple yet satisfying naval combat gameplay similar to Assassin's Creed: Black Flag & recently Skull & Bones, it has a small variety of ships from small to large that you can earn & upgrade as you complete the short story and bounties across the seas. It doesn't have much depth but its enough to enjoy the naval combat and pirate fantasy. Outside of Naval combat it features on foot first person gameplay that can feel clunky at times specifically melee combat during takeovers or boarding. It has bugs related to land mass and ships sailing through them which can be annoying when they take their time to exit it and therefor I don't suggest getting the game at full price. I would recommend Buccaneers when on Sale to anyone who wants another pirate adventure with naval & on foot combat without playing Black Flag again or don't wish to pick up Skull & Bones.

Simple to learn and hours of fun! Can be a bit repetitive, but there's no better feeling than sailing on the open ocean bringing your guns to bear on an enemy warship!

Other than the graphics, this game is what Naval Action by Game Labs could have been and should have been and can still be. My only really complaint about this game is the 1980's style arcade graphics. But despite that it is still a very enjoyable game. Most definitely recommend.
