Dec. 2025
*Call of Duty: Vanguard* manages to deliver a fast-paced, polished, and content-rich FPS experience that, for many players, surpasses *Battlefield 6* in consistency, accessibility, and overall enjoyment. While Battlefield 6 aims for massive 128-player battles, sprawling maps, and vehicle-focused chaos, this scale can often feel overwhelming, unbalanced, or simply too slow for players who prefer more controlled infantry combat. Vanguard excels by offering incredibly responsive gunplay, tight movement mechanics, and an overall smoother gameplay feel that immediately draws players in. The shooting mechanics are crisp, weapons feel impactful, and the core gameplay loop is reliable across every match a sharp contrast to Battlefield 6’s sometimes unpredictable pacing and performance issues. One of Vanguard’s standout features is its “Combat Pacing” system, which allows players to choose between tactical 6v6, balanced mid-sized modes, or high-intensity large matches. This flexibility gives players genuine control over how chaotic or strategic they want their experience to be, something Battlefield does not offer due to its fixed large-scale design. Vanguard also arrives with a wide variety of content right out of the box. Its campaign spans multiple World War II front ranging from the Pacific to the Eastern Front offering a visually striking and narratively engaging experience that switches up environments, character stories, and combat styles. Multiplayer is robust, with a healthy selection of maps that cater to different playstyles, from tight close-quarters layouts to more open mid-range encounters. In addition, the inclusion of Zombies mode adds a cooperative layer of gameplay that Battlefield 6 lacks entirely, giving players an additional way to enjoy the game outside of competitive PvP. Cross-play and cross-generation support further strengthen Vanguard’s appeal, allowing players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox regardless of hardware generation to seamlessly play together, a convenience that makes the game feel more modern and community-friendly than Battlefield’s more rigid ecosystem. In the end, *Call of Duty: Vanguard* offers a more immediate, polished, and versatile experience than *Battlefield 6*, especially for players who value smooth infantry combat, responsive controls, and quick, action-packed matches. Its diverse content, thoughtful gameplay options, and reliable performance create an FPS package that feels complete from day one. While Battlefield 6 may still appeal to players who enjoy long-form tactical gameplay and vehicular warfare, Vanguard stands out as the better choice for anyone seeking a tightly designed, fast-moving, and consistently entertaining shooter that can be enjoyed in both short casual sessions and extended play.

Honestly, even though Call of Duty: Vanguard got a lot of hate from some parts of the community, for me it’s actually one of the top CODs. I played tons of hours on PS5, loved every moment, and only sold it because a new COD came out. But now I actually bought it back on Steam — just to feel again what a good COD really feels like. The multiplayer is insanely fun — beautiful maps, lively dialogue, great sound design, and overall just a super enjoyable vibe. It feels alive in a way most newer CODs don’t. I enjoy it way more than BO6, honestly. Even Caldera in Warzone wasn’t as bad as people said. The old Warzone engine (Verdansk/Caldera era) felt smoother and more fun. The current WZ engine is a huge downgrade. They really should bring that earlier engine back and polish it. Overall, Vanguard deserves way more love. It’s a seriously underrated COD, and I’m happy I returned to it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ — 4/5 Listen up, recruits. Grab a tin cup, sit by the fire, and let an old “virtual WWII vet” bend your ear for a moment. I’ve been in this franchise since the very first Call of Duty stormed my PC back in the day. COD1 and COD2? Those felt like the good old days in the trenches—historical detail, immersive atmosphere, campaigns that punched you right in the gut. Then Modern Warfare came around and—don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed it, but this old soldier’s heart has always belonged to WWII. Fast-forward through years of modern pew-pew fatigue, and along comes Vanguard. I ignored it at first—mixed reviews, complaints about historical oopsies, multiplayer being about as fun as peeling potatoes for KP duty. But when it went on sale for about the price of a ration pack, I said, “Alright, soldier… let’s see what you’ve got.” And you know what? This campaign actually surprised the hell out of me. It’s cinematic as all get-out. Half the time I felt like I wandered onto the set of a WWII blockbuster instead of a video game. Explosions in your ears, bullets snapping past, your heart pounding—it’s been a long time since a COD campaign made me feel anything remotely close to the old COD1/COD2 days. Some missions had me laughing, others had me nearly jumping out of my chair when some enemy decided to introduce himself at zero distance. And Stalingrad? Good lord. Absolutely fantastic. Felt like I was right back watching the 1993 Stalingrad film—cold, desperate, gritty, and beautifully done. The Technical Stuff: Graphics: Stunning. Max it out and it’s a real looker. Sound: Top-notch. Guns, explosions, ambience—all chef’s kiss. Gameplay: Smooth, varied, and surprisingly flexible. Multiple ways to approach objectives. Are there historical inaccuracies? Sure. But as someone who “served” in countless virtual wars, I can tell you: I’ve seen far worse. Only Downside: The cutscenes can be long—three to five minutes at times. I get that they’re building a story, but sometimes I felt like I could’ve brewed a cup of coffee and still come back in time to see my character staring dramatically at the camera. Final Word: This old digital veteran gives it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It’s refreshing, emotional, cinematic, and honestly one of the better COD campaigns in recent years. If you grew up on the early WWII Call of Duty games, this one might just hit you right in the nostalgia. Recommended—especially if you’ve got a soft spot for WWII campaigns, proper firefights, and the smell of virtual gunpowder in the morning.

I only play the single player. Apart from the Polina plotline being over the top and dragged out far too long, it is a nice shooter.
