I am genuinely impressed with this app. It allows you to create both detailed and simple battle maps with a high level of customization. The developer is also very active within the community, regularly responding to feedback and incorporating user ideas into the app. I’m impressed with what has been created and I’m very glad I discovered this game.
just for fun i did doodle a tree with pen on paper. took a pic of it, imported it in this software and added wind movement and shadow. looked amazing and was super fast. i have almost no experience with graphics programs but this right here is easy to use. u don't need tutorials. i don't play dnd, i just bought this for creative purposes. i will just draw with this tool while listening to audiobooks like lord of the rings. i can now recreate the old static maps of the books and parts of middle earth, but now i will have movement and light on it. what an amazing tool. assets i miss, i will just draw myself and add them. can highly recommend for serious dnd mapping or just for creativity and fun. runs without any problems on silicon mac on highest settings.
I'm not an artist. I have grand visions, but much difficulty in making them reality. I have so many maps and cities and scenes in my head that I've wanted to do justice to. Now I can. Ok, dramatics aside. I really do have trouble with creating maps and such, and many programs, apps, and games seem designed for experts. Or at least people who know what they're doing with these sorts of things. (Not me.) This one? Not the same. Is it designed for complete novices? No, not really. It does not hold your hand. But it is easy for a novice to get into. I think its designed for someone to goof around and figure stuff out. Can experts get more out of this than me? Absolutely. But I've just been messing around and figuring stuff out, and I'm happy with it. Every time I go "I wanna do this," or "How do I do that", I start looking and find something that lets me do it. Is it easy as snapping my fingers? NO. It takes some effort and planning. BUT I CAN DO IT. And I do it without getting frustrated. Does it have all the features and assets I want? No. Its in Early Access. That will come in time. But what IS there is well implemented. So yeah. I do recommend it to anyone wanting to create maps and scenes. Even if you struggle with artistic efforts. Even if you're a boss at them. My opinion may change, but that's where I'm at right now.
I HAVE NO WORDS FOR HOW AMAZING THIS IS. My only hope is that he (the god among men that is Hannes Breuer) keeps developing this after he is finished with the game he built this for. Even if it's in the form of DLCs that will give packs of extra content. But, at this point, he has opened it up to the Steam Workshop, so I'm over here downloading all kinds of extra stuff completely free made by the community (like cars, battlefield units, animals, ruins, and full-on structures). With the Workshop open the possibilities are endless and will only get better. Pros: -Grid or no grid. Snap or freehand. -Layers. You want to build a layered interior of each house, done. You want to flip a switch for festival decor, or ruined houses from a battle, or water for a flood? Done. -City Filler. Literally make a full city in minutes if you're so inclined. Draw out residential, farm, merchant, camp, and forest zones and it will fill in automatically. Everything from buildings, decor, and population. -EASY. No coding. Very intuitive UI. -Printable or virtual export. You have one of those screen-tables or you play online? Export it as a video. The chimneys smoke, the trees wiggle, the birds fly, clouds float by, adjust the time of day as needed. Move your virtual character tokens throughout your creation. -Import your own stuff, or other peoples' that they share! Including colored objects. -Scale. This is not a tiny tool. You can make country-sized maps, with details as small as the bread on someone's plate. EDIT: ok, not Country-sized, but still REALLY big. Cons (will update if they get fixed): -Auto-fill can be a bit wonky. Can be lessened by turning down density and turning off "Fill Edge". Plan on tweaking a lot of overlapping buildings, decor, and citizens. -Has a hard time Exporting on "Max DPI", crashing every time. This is probably my poopy computer though. -NO TUTORIAL. Good luck on YouTube. To be fair, there were only a few things I needed to look up. Just start a "Test" map and ♥♥♥♥ around with every tool. Then go make a city. -Also, starts lagging a little after placing 8k+ objects on a single map. Again, probably my own poopy computer. 10/10 Broke my own rule and bought this at full price. AND I'D DO IT AGAIN. This is beyond Brilliant.
