Civilization IV is still the best version of Civilization. This is the game where they truly nailed the formula: deep strategy, meaningful choices, great pacing, strong AI, memorable diplomacy, and just the right amount of complexity. Every era feels important, and every decision can shape the rest of the game. I would love to see a remastered version with modern graphics, better resolution support, improved UI, and smoother performance. But the core gameplay should be left alone. Don’t reinvent it, don’t simplify it, and don’t chase trends. Just preserve what made Civ IV great and give it the modern polish it deserves. A remaster should also be built with the modding community in mind. Civ IV has stayed alive for so long because of its incredible mods and dedicated community, so strong mod support should be treated as a core feature, not an afterthought.

This is the first game my dad got me into, also it the first game I ever bought a duel monitor setup for, cause if your playing withs mods the turns are sloooow but that how I like to play max civs, giant pangea and slowest game speed. So I recommend watching a movie or a show on the sideline. Currently playing as Italy as I watching the latest season of Invincible. Civ 4 is a great addictive game so if I want too watch something I'm launching this bad boy and launching netflix so I highly recommend Civ 4 a fun game and Invincible if you want something amazing to watch ❤️

THE most replayable game of all time. I suppose you could say that about any Civilization game, however, Civ IV is arguably the most balanced offering in the series. It is my preference down to this day, in 2025, after 30 years of playing the series

After 1,000+ hours across Civ IV - VI, I can happily say that IV is the best in the series. The AI is brutal even on normal difficulties and can't be walked over easily like in V and VI. The tech tree is also the best in my opinion and the different traits and starting technologies for each leader/civilization provide a surprising amount of variety. Buying Civ IV at a book fair at my middle school in 2006 may be one of the best decision I ever made.
