Downloaded Civilization VI thinking I’d play for an hour. 6 hours later, it’s 3 AM, I’m at war with 4 different countries, my economy is collapsing, and Gandhi is somehow threatening me with nuclear weapons. The game is basically 10% strategy and 90% saying “just one more turn.” Every game starts with: “I’m going to be peaceful this time.” 20 turns later: “Your city looks very nice. It would be a shame if something happened to it.” Absolutely addictive. Completely destroys your sleep schedule. 10/10. Would conquer the world again.
Having played and enjoyed this game for years I figured it was time for the review. With the unfortunate release of the monstrosity know as Civ Seven, I thought it necessary to recognize a proper well-made Civ game. The calamity of Civ Seven has pushed myself and several friends into the loving arms of good old Civ Six. We've been playing this title more and more. Thank the gods it exists. It might be the last good Civ game to ever exist. If you've somehow missed this one, and see it on Steam for a decent price, go ahead and pick it up. It's a real gem. If you see Civ Seven on the horizon... Change course.
Do not buy this game. It is drugs. Naughty drugs. Hard drugs. It will become your comfort game, your after work wind down game, your "I don't know what to play game, your evening game that becomes early morning on a work night game, your entire damn weekend with a callin sick on Monday game. It is very addictive. I can be working away on something and Hey! Suddenly Civ is open. I can be in bed planning my revenge on Montezuma who jumped me before I could even get archers out. I can be working out my strategy for beating Malenia but then suddenly I'm looking at Mansa Musas chubby face on the loading screen and I THOUGHT I UNINSTALLED YOU. Giving it a thumbs up because it would be wrong not to but please do not buy this game without a thorough assessment of your time and how much of it you are prepared to lose.
