i thought i was just gonna play a cute cat game… why am i sitting here questioning life bro Copycat is not just about a cat. it’s about being replaced, being forgotten, and that feeling when you realize maybe you were never really “home” to someone the way you thought you were. you play as dawn, just a cat right? wrong. somehow this game makes you feel EVERYTHING like the loneliness hits so quietly but so hard. the worst part? it’s not dramatic. no big explosions, no crazy plot twists. it’s just… real. like watching someone slowly stop choosing you. the whole “copycat” concept?? yeah that hurt. imagine finally feeling safe and then suddenly… someone else takes your place like you were nothing. i’m not even kidding, some scenes just sit with you. no music, no dialogue, just vibes… and pain. gameplay wise it’s simple, very chill, more like you’re just living through the story. but emotionally??? 0/10 stability after this game. this game is for people who: • overthink at 2am • get attached too easily • and know what it feels like to be someone’s “temporary” anyway yeah cute cat game totally didn’t break me or anything
I thought of giving this game a new review, cause I felt like this. This game shows the story of a grandma. This grandma had a cat and we the player become the exact copy. Hence the name of "Copycat": While playing through the game, you go through a roller coaster. First you don't want to be in this family. Then you want, but then you get sorted out again. You become rebellious and want to "confront" the grandma or you don't if you choose the other ending. People who say this game has no message, clearly didn't understand anything of the game at all. The mix of wanting to be a wild cat and then a house cat. The thoughts from the cat put on the screen. The narrator messages. It is a bit confusing but putting everything together makes sense. So I give this game a 7/10! GET GOO GOO ALU
This is a mixed review for sure. 10/10 - for playing as a cat and how wonderfully accurate and fluid the cat movement is! And I was enthralled by the interactions with the world and how well the inner monologue was written for the cat. 0/10 - for humans ; their designs were unpleasant to look at, their personalities and reasoning were ghastly, and while I understand this is meant to be a cautionary and educational tale, I very quickly had zero empathy for any of the people in this game (except that one small kid who gives us food). I think the messaging is very important but its obvious theres a struggle in the writing to either have it be a straight up tragic tale and end that way or have a positive and uplifting ending either as a means of redemption or to showcase what a proper and loving owner would look like. But neither of these really happened? Play the game and decide for yourself how you feel about this tale but i found it frustrating to say the least. It has great potential but the ending feels incomplete for me personally. Loved every second of meandering as a cat, but hated how often I had to see cruelty be acted upon us as said cat. And as a residual thought, I think while its admirable for a first game and for a game seeking to teach folks about the moral of pet care and ownership, I think that the audience who is going to play this game most likely already loves and respects cats. And so the lesson feels a bit lost on the target auidence. Regardless, I did enjoy much of my experience, but was feeling bitter about the narrative at the end.
