This is a Vampire Survivors type of experience, where you character auto-attacks mobs (you can override the auto-attack and use manual aiming, but in practice there was rarely any need to do so). This means that your main player decisions are about positioning the character to avoid damage and complete objectives. I've played a lot of suvivorslikes, and this is one of the better ones. I especially liked the item variety and the fun you can have playing inventory tetris in order to set up synergies and fit as many powerups into your backpack as possible. That said, I'm not sure that this game will stay in my rotation for much longer. There is little variety between runs in terms of enemies, terrain, mission objectives, etc, so they start to feel samey quickly. The ability to choose a path through the map is similar to FTL or Slay the Spire, but the choices rarely matter much, since each path always invovles the same outcome - go to a map and look for fuel to reload your bus. The only difference is that some maps have more or less fuel, more or less loot, and are smaller or larger. I would have liked it if some of the roadbloacks and events replaced missions on the paths, rather than being something that you experienced no matter what path you chose. That would make choices on the map screen more meaningful. There also needs to be a much better variety of maps and missions. Finally, I found that a pistol and a bat were by far the best weapon pairs, and nothing else even came close. High-tier two handed melee weapons were still worse than the bat paired with a pistol or revolver, or dual wielding pistols. And many two-handed weapons were not any better than a pistol-bat combo, especially on later maps where the enemy density means that being stuck reloading without a melee weapon is a death sentence. So there was a lack of viable builds too. So a promising entry to genre, but one that still needs some work to get me coming back for more playtime than I have already experienced.

The backpack puzzeling aspect makes this game so much more interesting to me than other games in the "survivor" genre. Its not just a straight upgrade path, but a balance you need to find on which weapons to use and how to optimse the backpack space you have availabel.

So far... + Good progression system. + Fun tetris-inventory system akin to RE inventory. + Not too difficult missions with reasonable boss fight. + Crafting, unlocking weapons. + Variety in map design for each segment of a run. + Classes, weapons and upgrades to unlock + Endless mode - Need more regions (climate, weather and geography). - More weapons. More active abilities aside from dash that can be chosen during mission start. - Need some voice for immersion. - Base is empty. You drive a bus, alone. - No NPC to interact with Would be fun to have: + Coop + Add NPCs at the base. + Add conversations for immersion. + MOD SUPPORT

First things first: The game is fantastic and, even in Early Access, is an absolute must-buy for anyone who enjoys Brotato and Backlash Battles. Since there's no roadmap yet, I'd like to take this opportunity to point out a few things the game needs before the 1.0 release: More items and more crafting. More options for building defense. More ways to improve, enhance, or convert status effects. More characters with dedicated effects. The foundation the game will build on in the future is enormous. I look forward to every update and wish everyone lots of fun.

Played the beta / demo for 30+ hours. I can safely say that this is my game of the year. Might not beat the crazy competition this year, but this is GOTY worthy in my opinion. Only other game within the genre that gets close is Brotato.
