The combat is a lot of fun! Extremely fluid and expressive. I'd hesitate to call it a Metroidvania, although there is some influence there, it'd a lot more linear and with a lot less backtrack than what you'd expect from a game like that. There are secrets out there to find though, and the linearity certainly does not detract from the fun, I'd just temper my expectations if you're hoping for a typical Metroidvania

Is it a good game? Yes. Is it a Metroidvania? I'm skeptical. The game plays like one, but it is incredibly linear with no branching paths and only one route to progress. If you struggle on that route, you have no mechanism to find power ups or alternative progression. I played through until I got to a boss that I struggled with a bit and ended up failing on the first many attempts. I tried to backtrack to find a different direction and quickly realized that I had unlocked every path and gotten every power up available to me already. I had no mechanism to get stronger and no other options but to beat my head against the boss. I didn't feel like doing that. So the combat is good, the movement is good, but I don't want to play any more. The main reason is that every enemy is about 33% too tanky for it to feel good, meaning that all of my actions feel like I'm slapping them with a wet noodle. The story also looked like it was going to be somewhat compelling at the start, but then once you're past the tutorial you are by yourself in underground catacombs for three hours with no progression. I get the feeling that Divinum was trying to copy Hollow Knight a bit too much, then tacked on an unrelated story at the end of development. It doesn't really work. Case in point, when the main character is about to be left behind to fight some zombies, she throws a tantrum. When encountering imperials who want to desecrate her religious sites, she fights back. But when meets one of the literal gods of the story, she says nothing. Literally nothing, she just takes it in stride and keeps walking. I feel like she started as a silent protagonist and then got story bolted on at the end. Either way, the story is out of whack with the game pacing and the characters do not fit the world they've been put in. I say all those negative things, but it was a solid game and a good amount of fun, I just got bored of beating my head against a wall with a wet noodle for the four hundredth time.

I'm closing in on what I believe is the end of the game and I have to say, I'm pretty damn impressed. Incredibly smooth experience, engaging gameplay, a steady trickle of meaningful unlocks, and an interesting and rewarding map to explore. I would say this game is a great indie product from a small team...but from what I understand it's actually just a solo dev. What an unbelievable achievement. If I have to be constructive, I would say that the story has a bit of an "end of act 2" feel to it, and I might expect a final leg after what I'm pretty sure is actually the final boss of the game. But, in reality, that's a symptom of my expectations being set so high by everything else Divinum has to offer. I hope this Dev has another one in the chamber, because I can't wait to see what they put out next.

Decent game but a short experience. Just when you feel the game is getting started its over. There is also no motivation to really collect everything, what is the point of collecting things when there is nothing to beat anymore? Anyway its a short (3-4h) action linear game , its not a metroidvania. This game really needed some more zones and a few more harder bosses, to really let you enjoy the combat/upgrades.

Divinum is a rare gem – be sure not to miss it! Rarely do I find a good balance between relaxing level clearing and sitting on the edge of my seat. This game does it perfectly, with old-school map exploration and challenging combat. The combat itself is really well thought out with both beautiful and intuitive animations. I think everyone will find something to love about this game, and I truly can't recommend it enough.
