the combat is extremely satisfying when you get it. It is very difficult, so I'm not surprised by the mixed reviews, and it does have some bugs (the devs are rapidly delivering hotfixes) but it's core fighting is very fun.

Really enjoying this game. Combat feels smooth and rewarding once you learn how to do it and really liking the depth to the world. Pixel art is brilliant. The mmo feel can be turned down/off if you don't like seeing other people. Game is not designed for m+kb, on controller it feels great. Amazing work from 2 developers looking forward to seeing them iron out any jank. First boss was basically a skill check for the parry/block system

This game is quite something. From a high level, it's a mix between Souls-like and Mount and Blade style games. But I think it elevates both aspects. Before I carry on, I recommend that (if you try this game) you turn off the "online players" option in the game settings: the social aspects seem, frankly, gimmicky at best right now and there are various issues with people crowding your view when you're trying to fight a boss or indeed any enemy. The combat is a bit tricky to learn, but very engaging once you start getting the hang of it. It features directional attacks, parrying, and guarding. This means button mashing is punished with extreme prejudice. Very much a 'git gud or git out' sort of game. It is *very hard* so keep that in mind. The RPG aspects are also quite cool. It's not a massive narrative storyline with twists and turns or anything (at least from my experience thus far). More of a sandbox; there is a 'main story' but you can largely ignore it and freely set your own goals/objectives. The freedom of recruiting most of the NPCs you encounter is a nice touch and makes building your warband fun as you may enter towns and vet NPCs for their stats. Plus, each NPC is a fully customizable character (in terms of gear, stats, and skills). Furthermore; they have relationship meters. You can do something with that I suspect (though I haven't gotten close enough to any one NPC to explore that enough).

This game is GREAT! The people complaining about first boss are morons. There is literally a sign right in front of the entrance to the boss that says run away, and the zone to leave is 15' to the left. You're meant to come back after a level or two and fight him.. but people are illiterate...

I'm really enjoying it so far. It's got some jank and the combat took some getting used to. It's also pretty challenging, which I like. This game has some great potential. I noticed some people complaining that there's no toggle to turn off multiplayer. There is. It's in Options - Game- Online players. You can turn it off there. Not sure how people missed this, it's one of the first things listed when you click options.
