Let me start off be saying this game is phenomenal. Elden Ring is nothing short of a masterpiece. From the moment you step into the lands between, the game captivates you with its vast, mysterious open world that rewards curiosity and exploration at every turn. The art style and immersive atmosphere of a usual Fromsoftware game combined with a extremely massive world makes for one hell of an experience. When you play Elden Ring you can see the passion, soul and effort they put in to it. They took everything they learned from previous titles and expanded on it. My biggest issue with the game are the side quests. I don't mind not having a quest log to follow but it's literally impossible not to miss quests or mess others up by progressing too far without a guide and even with a guide it's still convoluted. I think Fromsoft got too used to their games being linear where you would likely find the NPC again and pretty soon at that. Elden Ring's format makes it not only very difficult to stumble upon them again you constantly risk breaking side quests by talking to the wrong people, killing a boss in the wrong order, or even just opening some other quest before you were "supposed" to. An average Fromsoft quest is like you find a wizard in the middle of nowhere and they tell you some gibberish like “follow the forsaken path” then you’re expected to find a secret chest in some swamp area that leads you to a note that assumes you’ll know how to go back to. Then you have to talk to an NPC 3 more times in 3 different locations to complete the quest. Then you find their corpse slumped over on a rock... It’s mind numbing. Another problem are the boss fights some of them have long and aggressive combos without any means to counter them without taking dmg except to move far away and let them finish their 5+ hit combo. Bosses like this are more suitable for Sekiro fight mechanics as defending against them doesn't consume stamina and is also another way of offense against them as well. Sekiro has the most refined combat system they’ve ever made, and if Fromsoft wanted Elden Ring’s bosses to be as fast as Sekiro, they should’ve allowed for the deflect/visible stamina mechanic to be utilized. Elden Ring is one of my favorite Fromsoft games to date. Exploring the lands between for the first time was the best experience in gaming i’ve ever had. But thinking of replaying it's quite a chore due to the sheer size of it, especially after just finishing it. The game needs either something like the bonfire ascetics from DS2 or the boss refight and boss rush from Sekiro. I don't want a reward or anything. I wouldn't even care if you didn't get runes. Just the option of redoing bosses without replaying the entire damn game would be a huge benefit.

I got Elden Ring as a Christmas present from my big brother, which was a pretty bold choice since it was my first souls-like. At first it felt like the game was personally offended by my existence, and I died… a lot. Like, A LOT. I’m pretty sure some bosses knew me on a first-name basis. Somehow I crawled through everything, and now I’ve beaten New Game +8, collected basically everything, and yeah… the game is super easy. Totally relaxing experience. Definitely didn’t spend hours getting impaled, flattened, burned, and launched into the air like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ragdoll before I finally understood the patterns. The funny part is my brother still hasn’t even beaten the DLC, so at this point I’m not sure if this was a gift or some kind of challenge he set up for me. Either way, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Great game, brutal at times, but insanely satisfying once you get into it. Would definitely recommend. GIT GUD!

An extraordinary milestone that will likely cast as long of a shadow over other open world games as Dark Souls already did over most action RPGs during the last decade.
