A solid follow-up to a solid game, Ender Magnolia's hardly ambitious but it's damn good If you've already played and enjoyed Ender Lilies, this is a no brainer. It's a very similar game with increased scope and quality of life, easy to recommend to that crowd. Otherwise, here's the sales pitch. Ender Magnolia's technically nothing new, you have a your standard abilities like double jumping and dashing. You have your numerous bosses, some more challenging than others. You have a lot of areas to explore and look forward to backtrack to. And said backtracking will make you stronger and uncover extra goodies such as lore or new abilities. Might be a bog-standard list we're dealing with but honestly there's nothing wrong with it, game's just good. It has way better pacing of upgrades compared to Ender Lilies, it puts more focus on its abilities quality instead of quantity, its map is a fair bit larger with less bothersome parts and the extra focus on narrative is mostly nice. Two important things to note about your abilities this time around. The first is that they're no longer limited use requiring rests to refresh, instead they're (with few exceptions) on a short cooldown after use, which is great because I loved using quite a few of these abilities. The second is that new skill unlocks are multipurpose. Since your attacks, like in Ender Lilies, are summoned allies instead of you properly attacking, they've given you the ability to unlock new moves for said summons. One of the starting abilities is a fella who shoots his fist in a straight line, solid, but boring. His two optional upgrades however include a dropdown ice explosion or what is essentially a diagonal shotgun. That's just one summon out of quite a few. The overall list of summons compared to Ender Lilies is smaller, but with the way upgrades work, it doesn't have to be larger. Some comments on the narrative Unlike Ender Lilies which was a far more lonely and quiet journey, the protagonist, Lilac, actually speaks, and has companions to share the journey with. Your summons actually speak up this time around, either popping up in the story where relevant or with optional dialogue at resting sites. Personally, I find the dialogue a bit bland overall but I do appreciate the effort and attempt to capitalise on the setting beyond having lore fragments scattered around (which this game still does but most of its story will come from its main narrative, not side-material). While I very much enjoyed my time, I do have some issues. I dislike the part breaking system. Scrap as a currency for upgrading accessories is nice but the way you get this currency feels so gimmicky and far removed from actual combat that I usually find I'm getting it passively while skipping over enemies instead of engaging with them. Enemies themselves have some issues, too many can be cheesed by just attacking through walls or outside line of sight, but my least favourite ones are ones that carry shields or those LASER PRODUCING GUYS IN THE ACADEMY because these archetypes just waste my time. I don't find them engaging to deal with and if I have the chance to cheese them, I will. Probably my largest complaint however would be bosses. Don't get me wrong, there's some fine ones on this roster but too many of them just felt like suped-up enemies. Just a lot of basic movesets that don't really make for interesting and memorable encounters. There are other issues here such as hugging the walls, obscuring certain abilities, spamming moves that just waste your time... Again, not a dealbreaker and not consistently bad but this is definitely my biggest gripe. And finally, debatably a negative, is the games approach to difficulty. I dislike how you have to finetune it yourself. Sure the game gives you presets of easy, normal and hard but the damage output and health of inhabitants in areas varies kinda inconsistently to the point where I just kept everything at 2x don't do this for the whole game. Even if I got my wish of a consistent vision for difficulty from the devs, the health of certain enemies just makes me never engage with them because even though they look the same as dudes I faced like 2 areas ago, they take 4x longer to deal with while areas afterwards have enemies that have way less health than what I've already faced. All things considered though, Ender Magnolia's just a real solid metroidvania I didn't even mention the music done by Mili which is overall just lovely, but the game is consistently just real nice to go through. You can do way worse and while that's not exactly high praise I do genuinely think the game's worth a look if you're looking for more of this kind of genre. Quite nice.

100% completion in about 25 hours. I've gotta say - I don't 100% many games - I usually just finish them and call it a day. However, the Ender series is a major exception to that rule. I did this with the first game, because it was one of the best Metroidvanias that came out that year. Ender Magnolia may very well be one of the best Metroidvanias ever made. The controls are perfect. Map design? Spot on. Boss fights are great and balanced. Plus, you can set it to whatever difficulty you want and fully customize your experience (I completed the game on normal difficulty settings). TL:DR - if you enjoy the genre, this is absolutely a must play.

Peak like the previous game. 0 glitches or bugs discovered. OST, like the previous game is so good. Finished the game and my opinions still stand. Flawless 21:9 screen for gameplay, cutscenes are 16:9 like expected. Bosses are very strong while your own damage output is fairly low(imo) I hate the rats Loved the ending. Getting the (true) ending is'nt hard to get like in ender lilies. Wished for a longer epilogue but maybe ever in a sequel. Would insta buy the next game from Adglobe/Live Wire.

This game is close to being the perfect metroidvania. It's crazy how much quality of life aspects the devs has incorporated and I can see that they fully respect the player's time. The main things I'll highlight are: + No contact damage + Fast travel anytime + Great map system that highlights if a section is complete + Large variety of weapons 100%-ed the whole game in hard mode and there was no point where the game felt unfair. The one single thing I would change is including a small invulnerability after being hit, given that there are quite a lot of sources of constant damage (lasers/bombs). Great game, big improvement over the original in terms of gameplay. Definitely recommended.

A more than worthy sequel. Quick updated thoughts after 100% Normal. + The best map in a metroidvania. Clean with everything in the UI labelled and available without extra steps to access. Move around and zoom in/out with sticks instead of mapping those functions to buttons needlessly. Custom map markers that can all be removed at once with a button hold though with how well this map is made you don't ever need any map markers, I never used any and had clarity of layout and what was in each area. Besides fog where you have not been and grey in areas with something still to be done there's larger sections around pieces of the map that gives another layer of clarity to what sections of certain parts of the map that have not been fully explored. Every time you unlock another ability backtracking have never been this smooth, new sections to unlock for currency, path to a new area etc. and they are almost always convenient thanks to how the world is designed, you get a large scope but the feel of a much smaller map. Because the map is so well done it's combined with the world design to make exploration and backtracking feel intuitive like it's never been. + Soundtrack is excellent. It's a dark and dire world that seems to almost be out of life yet there's a yearning in the haunting melodies that creates a sensation of hope and beauty in other areas portraying a dark and depraved history or the eerie to almost invasive mechanical noises of the Biological Research Facility to the regal sounding Sorcerer's Academy. Every area has music that speaks volumes before you learn about it from the story or is simply a great piece. + Movement and combat feels tight. You have plenty of options with eight summons that each have three abilities of which you can pick four at a time to use. From standard weapon attacks to a dashing punch, bouncing saw blades, homing projectiles that fires automatically etc. Four attuner arts at a time as well that serve as an ultimate attack once you've charged them from attacking enemies. Using your jumps, dashes, abilities, arts, relics, equipment and if you choose two different parries, one from an ability with three versions and one that has many different versions from equipment it gives you a lot of options. + A ton of air mobility. Double-jump and air-dash are given early which combined with air attacks that have a short hover per attack and you get some extreme air mobility since you can renew attacks between each air action so [jump> combo> dash> combo> jump> combo> dash> combo] and there's other abilities and actions that will give you more options like Garm's Ascent which is a charged super-jump and Lunar Manifestation which is a dashing-slash that can be aimed horizontally upwards and more. + No contact damage. + There's much detail in the layered backgrounds and use of colours and effects that make the stages come to life through a variety of areas. + Dialogue and the story is paced to give enough context while quickly letting you keep exploring. + It tells you how long ago you saved when you quit. + Fast travel from anywhere and it's quick. - There's slight stutter. - Damage output felt lacking for bosses, while you die very quickly. - There's one really bad run back.
