Recognizing all the things from the VLDL universe is a bonus but not a must. Don't expect a quick action filled rollercoaster, but if you just go along for the ride it is very rewarding and fun. It might be a bit repetitive or grindy for some, but honestly I just find it very relaxing. There is very low pressure, you can't die or lose things. At worst you just have to try again. It's perfect to play when tired or half doing something else. Still fun enough to collect all the things, see all the views, and see where the story is going even though it is a bit obvious. The gameplay for catching fish, while it seems simple at first, it becomes more tricky and requires some thinking and planning and is actually quite refreshing. Even had fun min-maxing my gear a bit. It really is very unique gameplay and I really enjoyed figuring it out and then mastering it. I took a very leisured pace and took about 50 hours for 100% achievements, plus some hours idling or AFK. You can probably finish it in just a few hours if you only do the quests, maybe under an hour if you really push it. I was sad the game was over, but I can still come back to the final bit just to walk around and fish a bit if I want, playing from just before the final boss. The soundtrack is very catchy especially if you're familiar with it, though I can also see how the flute might get a bit annoying to people. Luckily you can just turn the music volume down if you feel like it. Where the music really shines is when you move from zone to zone and go deeper, you transition to a more gripping dark gritty tone the deeper you go, and it morphs into something really great. I just had my bobber resting on the ocean floor for a while just enjoying it. Oh and the steel drums on the tropical beach just make me smile. The graphics are wonderful retro pixel art details mixed with beautiful lighting, especially later on I found it very nice to take it in together with the music for great atmosphere. I liked other Team 17 titles, and they sure didn't disappoint. It's just a very well rounded and polished product. For a game about fishing, daft as it sounds, it really was quite immersive and jolly good fun.

Absolutely a cute lil fishing game but a true review In summary, it's a great "no thinking" game for people wanting to just unwind and just do some things. If you don't know Viva La Dirt League nor want something simple, you will most certainly *not* find amazement here. but you will find casual fun for sure Pros - - the upgrade system is consistent - the humor (which is self aware of famous/popular mmorps) is on point - the length is a bit on the longer side but matches unlocks and only gets a little bit tedious towards the end - Balarun is a dick - Viva La Dirt League Cons - - the gameplay is definitely shallow - it's a game about fishing for real - Fetch quests - that's the game. there are plenty of rewards for doing so, but towards the end it's a minor slog - zero end game content in essence, I personally bought the game to support my bois at VLDL and I don't regret it. The game is super fine, especially for a first run at making something, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't anything spectacular or groundbreaking but it *was* fun and occupied some hours. I moderately recommend if you're into this type of game and far more if you watch and love the channel

It is a great game, not so tedious and not so boring. Tip. Always pick a garlic on the ground. Morning. Nice day for fishing, ain't it? Huh-hah!

Viva La Dirt League made a game and my adventurer heart can't handle it. They have take some of the best bits of there sketches - awkward dialogue loops, pointless fetch quests and of course Baelin's Route and turned it into a fever dream. Seeing my favourite YouTubers go from sketch comedy kings to creators of an actual game is amazing. You have rolled a nat 20 and summoned perfection. Viva La Dirt League, you've officially leveled up. GG
