A great game, clearly designed for heavy autism and an obsessive love for maps, but the DLC policy is absolutely disgusting.

My GF told me it was her or EU4. This game really gave me a better life. Now I spend my days uniting the the pope, killing natives, and leading great wars of conquest. Instead of arguing about which restaurant to eat at, I negotiate royal marriages and alliances. Instead of long nights scrolling through Netflix, I strategize for hours, planning my next golden age. Do I miss her? Sure, but she could never give me the satisfaction which EU4 does. 10/10, would play again ❤️.

This game doesn't have a learning curve, its a straight jump to the moon. Played my first game as the Ottomans and looked through menus for like 2 hours. I then looked up tutorials and spent a bunch of time there. I felt prepared and attacked the Byzantines who had allied Serbia I think. I barely won that war then lost all my manpower to attrition. I then ran out of money by reinforcing my troops and being dumb in other ways. I spent all of my mana on deving random provinces and lost a war to Poland over Moldavia. After a few more catastrophes that resembled games I had a half decent game as Poland and got sucked in. I don't play many games for a long time, but if you enjoy learning about history and are willing to put in some hours of pure failure I would recommend this to you. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. I would not recommend that people buy any dlc for this game until after a few games. Each game take a significant amount of time and if you don't enjoy those initial games at all then buying the dlc is unlikely to fix that. Nonetheless this game is a veritable masterpiece in player led storytelling and is my favorite video game, hands down. UPDATE This update is purely for a steam event ignore it.

I realized this was an awesome game after some 10 hours gameplay; but played it for 1734 hours more just to make sure.

I have been into computer games since late 80s, and into strategy games since mid 90s. EU4 is the best game I have ever played so far. (Close contenders for the first place are Civ I and II, taking their release dates into account.) Many people might criticize the DLC system, but in my opinion, it is a must for such a deep and detailed game. You are not exposed to dozens of mechanics all at once, but instead gradually build up those one by one during many years, which also keeps you play thousands of hours. If you are bored of silly AI in strategy games, and look for a deep diplomacy game, you should definitely play this game.
