If you're able to slowly walk through this game (metaphorically) and embrace the expanded and re-imagined lore, this game is a cinematic masterpiece. It works as it's own thing, but playing FF7: Rebirth after really illustrates how much Remake pays off by letting the story and characters develop. Pros: - The expanded story and character dialogue are wonderful; far beyond my wildest dreams of what a remake of FF7 could achieve. - Seeing classic scenarios and music remade with such attention to detail is an absolute achievement that should be celebrated and appreciated. - The battle system is fantastic, and fans can really sink their teeth into it if they want. If they don't, easy mode lets the players have an edge with the systems (stagger) that alleviates the pressure to master the system. - The graphics are amazing; and it surprisingly runs and looks good on my PC that I built in 2019; that's very appreciated! - The Yuffie DLC is actually amazing, and probably does a better job at gameplay and pacing than the Remake does. It also makes Yuffie a much better character with the expanded dialogue, scenarios and voice acting. Cons: - The battle system is great, but having limited materia slots for so much of the story limits how much it can be embraced. - The limited scope of Midgar itself can feel claustrophobic quite a lot of the time; sometimes literally as the characters are crawling under and climbing over debris. - There's quite a bit of filler content that doesn't meaningfully enhance the experience. - Since the scope of the original FF7 is so much larger, an sense of impatience sets in (wanting the story to move faster to more impactful chapters). - Having to buy three whole games to experience the full re-telling of Final Fantasy 7 isn't the greatest situation; when the scope of these remakes filler content could've been pulled back and they probably could've made one masterpiece of a remake in one game. - Due to the fast nature of combat, the sparkly animations and enemy animations, there's a chance that it can get pretty difficult to meaningfully use defence for quite a while. There's materia that boost blocking and with experience that gets mitigated though. - The music sometimes is pushed to the background, lowered in volume, and re-composed to limit it's impact. There were quite a few times where I probably would've preferred the original soundtrack than the minimalist re-imagined songs. The original soundtrack could come across as grating and "too MIDI" for some, but I think that they went too far with trying to mesh modern graphics, storytelling and minimalistic re-imaginings of the OST. Additional notes: - Remake Final Fantasy 8 with the same energy as this FF7 remake trilogy (and then remake FF4 -> 10).

I think when people look back at some of the best PlayStation 1 games of all time, a few games have legendary status, we all know about the Resident Evil’s, Gran Turismo’s, Crash Bandicoots and many others, but PlayStation 1 wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without one game. A game which in it’s time was a graphical marvel that left everyone in awe, that game was Final Fantasy 7 (the black label version son, not that greatest hits nonsense). I know many people looking back at the game now are like WTF, that game looks like crap!!! Well I assure you in 1997 that game made us OG gamers cream, at the time the game was so large it took up an impressive 3 CD’s WOW.. Just trying to put into words how massive Final Fantasy 7 was during it’s initial run is nearly impossible. I would say it’s comparable to that first time you dipped your fingers in some warm apple pie. Mumm almost!!! Back in 1997 we were a different breed, repetition was our game, playing stages hundreds of times to learn each and every move our opposition was going to make, then jumping, leaping, and spitting at just the right time. If you want to understand it even slightly just think a game that came out so many years ago is still spawning Sephiroth gametags, forum names and facebook pages 27 years later, the game was probably released before about 85% of the people reading this review were born. Anyway for those that don’t know for years gamers were clamoring for a final fantasy 7 remake, we were foaming at the mouth at the very idea that our beloved classic could be updated with new cutting edge graphics, leet ( Vintage) gameplay advancements and superior sound systems. Square continually denied they were going to make a remake or even a sequel to the game because after all their Final Fantasies were Final (Get it, they were supposed to be unique experiences never to be revisited). Then Square dropped the Soft and picked up the Enix and of course the whole final part of the Fantasies was removed and they got to work making some sequels and remakes. Oh remakes they made baby, pretty much every game prior to Final Fantasy 7 was remade but not the one we wanted. We begged, we pleaded, we even offered up money and Square stood firm. Not without teasing us with Tech demo’s and movies, and other content. Saddness took over, we cried, we jeered, we begged and eventually a little twinkle of hope came, rumors of a final fantasy 7 remake. Just rumors, but enough to keep us OG’s (Original Gamers) intrigued. Then it happened, like a lighting bolt flung from Zeus hand, it was officially confirmed. Anyway, enough back story lets get into the review. Story – the game covers what would be the first disc or the original game. Kinda sucks because the original disc was kind of lame, but the remake flushed out the story a bit, put in quite a bit of filler content. Anyway the game starts out with everyone’s favorite terrorist organization Avalanche on their way to strike back at the Government organization that provides, food, water, light and security to the people of Midgar. Shinra!!!! those evil corporate scumbags are doing bad things or something, something, blowing up reactors and stuff.. Yeah go team Avalanche!!! Stuff happens, and then more stuff happens, then things blow up, and if you’ve played Final Fantasy 7 you pretty much know how this part of the story goes, as the game was fairly faithful to the events which took place in the original game. I’m not really going to say anything though because this game kind of made the events Spoiler Worthy again. Gameplay – this is probably the biggest change, (aside from the Graphics, the sounds, the many side missions) Gone are the days of Turn based combat and in its place is the a modified ATB battle system, which have become a plague for RPG’s these days. I can see the merit in that combat system, but the Ai controlled teammates normally suck, hardly do anything and you’re left trying to waffle stomp tremendously overpowered enemy’s solo. The combat feels kind of bleh, and it feels like you’re stuck trying to do too much and unless you’re hyper focused and micro manage your time most battles will be uninteresting and dare, I say boring. The inclusion of side quest and an arena was cool, but much like many other aspects of the game felt repetitive. The side quests have you running back and forth over areas you’ve already explored and re-fighting a bunch of enemies you’ve already defeated a hundred times. The battle arena features a few unique battles not available in the normal game, but in order to unlock them you’re stuck doing a bunch of other fairly boring fights. Not to mention the hidden battle requires you playing through the game a few times. Pros It's Final Fantasy 7 remade yippee It's graphically superior to the original game Some background characters have expanded storylines Aerith has her real name back.(wait, this is probably a con, she’ll always be aeris) Cons One game is broken up into numerous parts, on PS1 it needed multiple discs, now not so much Midgar is probably the most boring part of the original game, although now not as bad Achievements which require 3 partial playthroughs ugh Recommendation - I know my review might seem kind of harsh, but don’t’ mistake that as me saying not to buy the game, I just had such massive expectations for the game after years of waiting that it skewed what I was expecting. If you remove the nostalgia glasses and look at it as a stand along project it’s a fairly exceptional game, the ending left a lot to be desired (probably because it’s already known it’ll be a multipart game). The price tag at the moment is 39.99 which is decent enough but it has me in the feels knowing all the games compiling the Final Fantasy 7 remake will wind up coming in at close to 200 dollars. So take that for what you will, as for me, I purchased the game, played it, loved it, now I reviewed it, I’d say you should probably buy it and play it as well, especially if you were a fan of the original. If you’re anything like me it’ll be like, I remember this, I know what happens next.

I am amazed by this game. Went through 2 PlayStation 1 consoles because of the original game back in 1997. I had well over 1000 hours in the game back in the 90's. This is a dream game that came into fruition through technology, labor and love. The fighting in the game is fluid, dynamic and very responsive. The story is very fun and explains a lot more of the backstory from the original FF7. Obviously there are a lot of fans of this final fantasy story as there should be and I can say without a doubt this stands up to my expectations if not supersedes them. People that find this story today will be amazed and if you played the original like me, then you will be awarded with something special. I can say for a fact that if I had this game in 1997 I would have played the entire game with my jaw on the ground. Took forever and a day for it to come to PC but well worth the wait in my book. Tifa was always kinda hot but this takes it to a whole other level, just saying. Don't judge me.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an masterpiece game. The story, music, world design, character design, cutscane, everything perfect. But while I was playing this game, there were some issues I experienced. The issues: - Terible Control with Mouse & keyboard. As mouse & keyboard player, i should change the keybinding, default keybinding it's really terrible, for keybinding reference you can use people post on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVIIRemake/comments/rkz82b/comment/jm27hrz/ And i recommend use this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/1552 this mod improve control with M&K, for example with this mod you can use scroll wheel for select menu, zoom map with scroll wheel, WASD when ride a motorbike. - Stuttering issues It's weird, I can run smoothly at 2K High 60 FPS but sometime I get random stuttering & FPS drop. However, thanks to modders and the community, this issue can be resolve. I would recommend use this mod to fix stuttering/fps drop. https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/66 And if you use nvidia gpu, try adjusting settings in nvidia control panel someone post on reddit, it really helpful on me. https://www.reddit.com/r/FFVIIRemake/comments/rlj29z/got_stutterring_issues_on_pc_with_high_end

Fan base is a bit unhinged cause it's a game full of hot people. Probably my favorite group combat in any game, soundtrack is legendary, voice acting and atmosphere rocks. I didn't play the OG, but still loved it, hard recommend!
