Wonderful! Long gone are the days of nearly unplayable demos at start... Fortunately! Another one of these modern, slick, highly polished early-access games with a twist, mixing several genres making up for a very interesting combo: adventure, RPG, a little bit of survival and RTS plus a little tower defense. Also a nice touch - the coop is asymetric, meaning one player is a dwarf controlling a mech, the other one is a little flying dragon, that gets to places the other can't. It must be a blast in split-screen! It has a nice story that ties in very well into the world-building, complete with in-game well-spoken cutscenes and cheerfully involved characters. The graphics are a bit reminding of warcraft, colorful and with vast vistas of a fascinating world among the floating islands. I just like it when a developer (very active and responsive btw!) sets up a good idea in a setting you can get absolutely immersed in. I reached island 2 of 5, and i feel by the end i will already have gotten my money's worth of playing. I would place it up there with games like Enshrouded, Grounded, Volcanoids, IfSunSets, Abiotic Factor and Survival: Fountain of Youth. A full recommend! ------ Update: I've reached island 3 of 5, after 14 hours, and shit is getting serious! Difficulty (I'm playing the highest as always) has spiked a bit since island 2, I have to be much more aware of my decisions and surroundings. Love it 😻 Update 2: Island 4 Is a completely new setting, by now the game just assumes you know your way around everything... And to be honest, I do! I love the feeling of "yeah baby, this time I know what I'm doing, so watch me 💪" Can't wait to see what 5 has in store for me

This is really fun game that has lots of potential. Also they had a contest on their Discord a while back to have pet pictures as temp tech icons and my dog Milo was picked for it. Unfortunately I recently lost him and so I contacted them hoping to maybe have him in the credits or something simple, instead they went out of their way to put in a memorial shrine on the second island near the abandoned town if anyone wants to find it. I am incredibly touched by this and will be forever grateful that my best friend of 13 years has been immortalized in this way, Thank you so much for this to the Devs. Admittedly this probably makes my review somewhat biased but I enjoyed this game and their older games before so YMMV.

A Hidden Gem - 5/5! I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I first picked up First Dwarf, but it’s quickly becoming one of my favourite games of this genre. Started it with a friend, and we saw that one person in the Dwarf, the other is the dragon/companion, and we thought oh no, what have we got ourselves here? But thankfully we played around with the controls and realised, you can hot swap between characters seamlessly on the go, the tether is very large, and upgrades, all part of the game. Well done honestly, this is so well made. The mix of strategy, exploration, and combat is just spot on. There’s something incredibly satisfying about carefully planning your moves, upgrading your character, and then diving into battle with a friend, either as the dwarf in the mech, or as the dragon (thats my current pick). I love what they have done, I am soaring through the skies to get to places, and just doing my bit, scouting, exploring, building, and managing things as we go. Its equal footing all the way. The game has a great progression system, you can really make your party your own, with tons of customisation options to suit your playstyle. Whether you prefer to smash through enemies with a big axe and mech, or do fly by and quick dodge agile play like I do with the dragon. Plus, there’s a nice variety of equipment and skills to unlock as you go, which keeps things fresh, and its unlocked at a good pace always moving you onto the next interesting thing. The world-building here is impressive. The environments are beautiful, with lots of little details that make the world feel alive. The environment and graphics style also does a fantastic job of setting the mood—really immersive. What I love most, though, is that the game rewards exploration. Every time I think I’ve seen everything, I stumble across a hidden area or a secret item, and that’s always a nice surprise, more talent points for checking out that cave/cavern, some items, not just empty spaces all the time, that is great! I play this and go wow, the developers really just made a game out of passion, something they wanted to play, and shared it with us, and it shows. I love it. Overall, First Dwarf really nails what it sets out to do. It’s fun, challenging, and feels super rewarding to play. If you’re into fantasy RPGs with a bit of city-building/Tower defence, this one’s definitely worth checking out. Voice acting, story, cinematics, its got the whole lot, this deserves alot of attention honestly.

So it is a little bare bones at the moment. I got 7 hours out of it before I reached endgame and I was taking my time. It's ok for what it does. Needs a lot of work fleshing out mechanics like base building and making enemies actually challenging. I do like it, just not much point to the base building as dwarven settlements don't actually do anything once built. The research tree is unbalanced, you unlock higher tier damage output weapons before lower tier ones.

I waited a little bit to buy this game! Truly wish I would have bough it sooner. The story is interesting and the world is fun to be in. From my understanding this is an independent company making this game. I hope they are able to keeping adding to this! Its not 100% polished but overall the game is great.
