Look, I like this game but it really, really pisses me off too. Skill issue? Yeah, skill issue. I'm gonna keep at it but only during daylight hours when I can drop a cuss at volume without bothering the neighbours. I'll get into why in a bit. (EDIT @20-ish hours: Yeah, Leaf style is really hard for me. Some are so much easier I got through on pretty much my first serious try.) So, do you like oldschool martial arts movies? Secret techniques, betrayals, inscrutiably odd masters looking to impart strange knowledge, rival schools? Because that's the theme. And I like that theme a lot. I never watched much TV as a kid, but I'd make time for a martial arts movie. Good ones, bad ones, didn't matter. How about puzzle games? With knowledge and logic, you can infer a sequence of events, and know what you need to do to get around them? What about fightin' games? Carefully-timed parries, knowing attack distances, timing? Yeah. No, this game does not have a kitchen sink. That I know of. Let me stitch those pieces together for you: In any given fight, your character will get moves that just work. And, like any good martial arts movie, enemies attack one at a time, not all at once. So the trick here is, knowing what one attack is going to be, can it be countered? Evaded? Inverted so it hits an enemy? The really good tricks are limited, so you can't just spam them in a fight. So raw skill can make up for some of it. Enemy throw a rock at you? Kick it back at them! Here's the thing, though: your dude only starts with a few HP. Light attacks eat one point, heavier ones take more. A fight gone bad ends your run, just like that. But the game's gimmick is this "foresight" trick, so you can play out the fight in your character's imagination, time and again, 'til you get it right. Dodge that, kick him, punch that, grab the weapon, presto. Then, when you're satisfied, you can do it for real. The enemies will do the same things, so if you've got it right, it's just a simple rehearsal! Except, well, sometimes I forget the exact timing or whatever, and despite having nailed it 100% of the time three times in a row in the practice mode, I whiff it "for real" and then it's back to the monastary and I've said a bad word or three. But again, that's me. It's cold in my office, my fingers are a bit numb, the cat was bumping my shin, I was hungry, I have other excuses beyond that. I imagine maybe other styles will work better, but I'm hellbent on beating it with the tricks-based Leaf style first, before trying something new. Which may also be making it hard on myself but I love just doing tricky sidesteps and making enemies smack each other instead. If I had any complaint, really, it's that the player character's movement looks rather odd to my eyes. And, yeah, my occasional inability despite getting it right in Foresight mode to still screw it up in the real fight. But again, skill issue. If you've made it down here, maybe you like games, or my rambling about games, so you're my kind of person. I often stream whatever weird thing I've found that's caught my attention, so drop on by, check out something odd, tell me whatever weird thing you've found. That'd be cool. http://www.twitch.tv/fdejeuner

i really love this concept. as a old player who are getting worst in action game, its a pity that i cant really enjoy some of those wonderful game nowadays. Elden ring, silk song, etc. But Forestrike give me a chance, no, many chances, to practice, do rehersal in the same level, and execute afetr the practice. That makes me look so cool again. And if that fail, its my fault, not that the game is too difficult.

Practice for like 10 minutes and flub on your real attempt and lose a golden run. 5/5 would restart with a clear mind.
