Once you build the town hall, PAUSE. Turn your train station off. There is no rush. The game comes at you quick, and you want to do everything, all at once, until your town is a scattered mess of chaos. Terraform and move your town hall and train station somewhere you want it. Pave roads and fill holes. The game will feel less overwhelming and you'll be happier with your town right out the gate instead of dreading re-arranging the chaos. Great game!
Great game for parent-kid gaming! Kids do the mining, fishing, foraging, decorating, and manning of shops. Adults can focus on town planning, automation, and long-term goals. This is an absolute delight to play. EDIT: Finished the game at 17.9 hrs, BUT note that was 3 players playing local coop working and planning together. A solo player might need maybe 45hrs. It has been the best gaming experience my family has had. My wife, kid, and I could not put it down. Thanks to the Devs!!!
I heavily recommend this game. I played roughly a 100+ hours in Early Access, and felt like the Developers were super communicative of save files in Early Access not being compatible with 1.0's release because of all the new features they were adding. And they did - they added a TON of new features and made the game so much better. It was definitely worth starting over because of this. I just wanted to address this early on because I've noticed a surge of 1 star reviews addressing the Save File issue, and even with the Developer posting a resolution, it absolutely tanked their scores when unfortunately that's the risk of playing an Early Access game. With that out of the way, I want to actually provide a review on the actual game. This game isn't Animal Crossing, HOWEVER, if Animal Crossing: New Horizons left you feeling a certain type of way due to the lack of depth and content, this will scratch your itch. As a long time cozy gamer, I definitely have felt overwhelmed with the Cozy Slop rush of devs wanting to make a quick buck on the genre. That being said, this game is not one of those. It's fun, it's and seeing the amount of content the Devs have added to this game makes me so excited to play it. You're basically running a town, and while they have added more ways to be apart of the town, like adding in a home or letting you work the stalls and businesses, it's definitely not that type of simulator game. It's more of a building-type game with goals and objectives. You have to work to unlock different things to build your town up, which adds to the addictiveness/pacing of the game. When Devs add features in, I rarely run into bugs. It overall feels more refined. Anyways, here's to a hundred more hours!
My town is disgusting and a cluttered mess, but I'm having a great time. This game is a little Two Point, a little Cult of the Lamb, and a little Animal Crossing. It's cozy and cute and has just enough grind to lock in and easily lose track of a few hours. The game also includes exploration and manual resource gathering, which is a nice change from other management games I've played. Oh, and so many vehicle options! My front yard is cluttered with them and I'm not ashamed. Anyway, I've been playing exclusively with my Steam Controller (witness me!) and I haven't had any issues, even though the game says it only has partial controller support. Since EA saves won't be playable after 1.0 comes out later this month, I think I'll stop where I am right now so I can build an actual nice town once the game is officially released. FUPAVILLE WILL FLOURISH.
I dont ever leave reviews. I loved many games in this lifetime and never leave reviews because I feel that its too subjective to put into words. But this game is one of the very few I will be leaving a review for. My daughters are 6 and 7 years old. 5 and 6 when they first started this. It is to date their favourite game. If you want a massive story and AAA stuff you have other options (CP77 looking at ya) but if you want a very entertaining coop experience with friends or kids, this is the one. It isnt as intense as overcooked. It is relaxing and cute and it makes you want to improve your town. There is much freedom to build and the split screen gives everyone freedom to do whatever they prefer to focus on. during our play, I will say I NEED PAPER SO I NEED WOOD one daughter will leave the fishery to go chop wood and another will leave her restocking of stones to bring the wood to the paper maker thingy. I am in charge of most major planning like where to place things. they will bring the resources required to build. There is literally a role for everyone but highly recommend a adult around to strategise the placements and do the more complex stuff. Had a blast. Will come back to this during school holidays again. I have alot of kids games involving ducks and goose etc but this is the best.
