That was a lot of fun. 30 hours for all achievements. Definitely a good deal imho. I saw a lot of people complain about how the game is too easy and what not...what did you expect when you looked up the game, doe? If you want hardcore management with a frustrating reset every hour go play Banished or Frostpunk. This is exactly what it looks like. A very casual and cozy game with tons of love and little gimmicks on every corner. It oozes atmosphere in every corner, it has some little easter eggs to discover and the fact that you don't have to stress or fear to fail is what makes it perfect. Also huge respect for the dev who is not only active in the discussion forum to help out people but also on reddit. Definitely worth it imho.
FINALLY A GOOD 2P COUCH CO-OP! They're so rare these days. Finished the game with my wife from start to finish. A bit Animal Crossing, a bit Cities Skylines, a bit Factorio (though the resource management is forgiving). Agreed with the top review saying to turn off the train station as soon as you unlock the town hall - the game comes at you VERY FAST and is initially overwhelming. Just having the noise of tourists and needs disabled for 15 minutes while you get your bearings means the rest of the game will flow. Also, the tutorial briefly covers locking items in storage, but what it DOESN'T make clear is that if you want a second level of processing automated, you have to lock the next step in a storage bin (AKA lock a wood plank in a storage bin so your workers know to turn wood into wood planks). That was one of the big things that confused us for a few hours. Finished in ~21 hours.
Once you build the town hall, PAUSE. Turn your train station off. There is no rush. The game comes at you quick, and you want to do everything, all at once, until your town is a scattered mess of chaos. Terraform and move your town hall and train station somewhere you want it. Pave roads and fill holes. The game will feel less overwhelming and you'll be happier with your town right out the gate instead of dreading re-arranging the chaos. Great game!
I'm a little confused as to why people are comparing this game to Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley - aside from some surface-level aesthetic and minor gameplay overlap (farming, catching bugs, fishing are all technically in here), this game plays more like Waterpark Simulator in the sense that there is a constant barrage of tourists visiting your town, who all want to buy things from shops and visit various attractions in order to earn points to unlock new tech and buildings. You'll spend the first 4/5 hours running around trying to do everything yourself - mine resources, craft them into materials, send those to shops to earn money, clean up after tourists, build more stuff etc. It's a hectic cycle, but one that never really has any negative consequences for ignoring your duties - an unhappy tourist just... doesn't earn you points. After that, you'll unlock automation for almost everything - auto-cleaning, auto-delivery, auto-resource generation. Then you can calm down and start to sculpt your ideal town. However, other than completing goals for the sake of completing goals, none of the individual components really have the same draw as other games. Yes. there is fishing and bug catching, but it's a single button press - no calm, enjoyable mini-game. Yes, there is money to earn and tech to progress, but it's so trivial that it might as well earn it by itself. I've seen a lot of comments talk about this being great for parent/child co-op, and I can definitely how that would be the case, but for a solo adult player the whole experience is enjoyable but underwhelming.
