GTA: San Andreas is a timeless masterpiece that transcends its era. With its massive map, diverse cities and captivating storyline, it effortlessly embodies the essence of great gameplay from the early 2000s Pros Cons ✔️ All three games feature tons of talented actors delivering iconic performances, not to mention the pristine selection of songs and radio stations in each game. Radio X and K-DST with K-ROSE still reigns supreme! ❌ Compressed Audio can, on occasion, result in a crackling sound. ✔️I can't deny the handful of genuinely useful quality-of-life improvements in all three games including auto saves. A wide variety of missions, an improved field of view, classic lighting, sprawling metropolis rich in detail and much more await you in a trilogy that improves the overall feel. ❌ "Modern" controls for flying and swimming are awful. The PS2 version felt significantly better than this from what I remember. You can change to "classic controls", but that just changes the buttons and layout and not the overall feel of swimming or flying. ✔️ Huge world to explore with lots of collectibles to collect. Completing this game to 100% took me 40.3 hours, but I'm also a "veteran". Newcomers will definitely need longer. ❌ There are audio bugs with vehicles where the acceleration continues in the background even when you're standing still. Some audio files loop constantly without ever finishing at higher frame rates (144 Hz/FPS for me). Additional Info: Content & Value I completed GTA: San Andreas in 40.3 hours, earning 100% of the game's achievements. For those interested in achievements: This game is quite easy to complete 100%, even though some of the achievements take a bit of grinding (taking all territories near the end of the game etc.) Mode Single Player Controller Recommended? Yes, but you can also use KB/M Is it worth buying? Yes, but I would highly recommend waiting for a sale. It's not a bad game, and it offers the classic trilogy. I bought it at a 60% discount for €23.99, which is €8 per game, and that's absolutely fine In-Depth Story, Gameplay, Soundtrack & Downside Playing GTA: San Andreas back then was like diving into a massive, incredibly realistic world. Los Santos, which looked a lot like Los Angeles with its fancy parts and rough gang areas, is where it all began to get "mainstream". Then San Fierro transported me to a foggy, hilly version of San Francisco, and Las Venturas took me to the flashy heart of early-90s Las Vegas in the middle of the desert. San Andreas size was mind-blowing, making it much bigger than Vice City. Truth be told tough: Vice City remains my all time favorite based on atmosphere alone. Many regard GTA: San Andreas as the standout title in the original trilogy, and for good reason. Its map is significantly larger than those of its predecessors and the main storyline is twice as long. The game features compelling characters such as Big Smoke, Officer Tenpenny, and the protagonist Carl 'CJ' Johnson, who is famous for the quote: 'Ah shit... here we go again'. As with other GTA games, the plot centres on gang warfare and police corruption, but there are also intriguing subplots that keep players engaged. I won't spoiler anything here because even though its old and a classic, there might be people interested on how the story unfolds, so let me just tell you: It's awesome. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3566111170 Returning to Los Santos after his mother's mysterious death turned out to be far more complicated than we thought. Corrupt cops framed the protagonist for a police officer's death and sent him into gang territory. The iconic characters, such as Sweet, and friends Big Smoke and Ryder, made the whole thing even more gripping. Honestly, it had one of the best stories in the series. From CJ’s conflicted return to his roots to the brutal betrayal and massive plot twists, the story felt awesome! San Andreas stands out thanks to its attention to detail and the wide range of activities it offers. From diverse missions to side quests, there are plenty of ways to keep players entertained. The freedom to explore the vast map and interact with a variety of characters enhances the game’s replayability. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3567941619 Furthermore, the streets of San Andreas come alive with dynamic interactions that respond to Carl's appearance. If he is overweight and out of shape, he becomes the target of mockery from others. If he is fit and well-dressed, the townspeople acknowledge this positively, offering supportive comments. This feature exemplifies the game’s vibrant world, where players can witness drug deals, citizens fleeing non-player-controlled criminals and everyday traffic incidents. For a game from 2004, this was mindblowing back in the day. These elements merely scratch the surface of San Andreas immersive gameplay quality. Cars even accumulate dust and grime. Construction workers engage in vocal interactions with passing women, and law enforcement officers diligently pursue their targets until completely out of sight. These nuanced details contribute to the game’s depth, making the virtual world feel remarkably alive and responsive to the player’s actions. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3574988834 Despite the passage of time, the gameplay mechanics of San Andreas remain solid, standing as a testament to the title’s enduring appeal. Whether engaging in intense shootouts, high-speed chases, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of its world, GTA: San Andreas delivers a gameplay experience that has become a benchmark within the GTA series and the reason GTA 5 is what it is today and probably what GTA 6 will even improve further. The downside, though, is in the sound department. Sometimes there is crackling, because the sound files are heavily compressed. Also: even when you're standing still, the sound of driving faster sometimes loops making it sound like you accelerate on a bike, but you are not. Some bugs are unnecessary and shouldn't be here. The modern controls for swimming and flying feel awful sometimes and CJ dives into the water when I only want to swim faster and press the X button repeatedly. Conclusion In the world of open-world gaming, GTA: San Andreas is a timeless masterpiece that transcends its era. With its massive map, diverse cities and captivating storyline, it effortlessly embodies the essence of great gameplay. Its iconic status is elevated by the attention to detail, from dynamic evolving graphics to a responsive and vibrant world. The trilogy is a must-have for everyone who wants to experience a classic in a new look and yes it is worth it. The initial release of the Definitive Edition trilogy was poor, but they patched it. Not perfect, but completely playable. As someone who has completed all the games multiple times and still plays Vice City to completion like once a year, I can say: they're beautiful! Final Verdict: 8.0/10 – A classic masterpiece despite some flaws here and there ♥

This game is a weird mix of nostalgia, upgrades, and some straight-up “what were they thinking” moments. Let’s start with the good: it’s still San Andreas. That massive map with Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas? Still iconic. The missions? Still fun. CJ? Still a legend. The world is as wild and alive as I remember—from gang wars and lowrider meets to jumping out of planes in your boxers. And they did improve some stuff—the controls are tighter, aiming is better (feels more like GTA V now), and you can finally restart missions without rage-quitting the game. Now the visuals… oh man. It tries. Some areas look genuinely nice, like sunsets or city lights at night. But then you see a character’s face and it’s like they melted a Sims model in the microwave. It’s not bad all the time, just inconsistent. Some textures are sharp, others look like leftovers from 2004. And don’t get me started on the rain—at launch it was like trying to play inside a car wash. Performance-wise, it’s better now after a bunch of patches, but still not perfect. I had a few bugs, weird physics, and the occasional crash. Not game-breaking, but definitely noticeable. Music? Mostly intact, but yeah… some classics are gone due to licensing, which sucks. Still, the radio stations are great and totally set the vibe. At the end of the day, I had fun. It's not the “definitive” version Rockstar promised, but if you’ve got love for San Andreas and can forgive some jank, it’s worth diving in. Just know what you’re getting: a slightly modernized classic with a few cracks showing. Final Verdict: 11/10 – It's CJ’s world, we're just glitching in it.

I started playing this version of the game last week and had some reluctance to recommend this over the OG version but after the recent update I can confidently do that. It could and should have been far better than the version we got but when compared to the original game its definitely better. P.S - I wish R* to continue working on the game and make it even better.

Much better experience now compared to the release version, as R* have commissioned a different dev team (VGD) to fix the mess GSG made, and the update does fix a lot of the visual problems.
