I have so much mixed feelings about this game, but I think in the end I'd still recommend it. Unlike LAiX1, which you should get if you liked Copen's gameplay in GV2, LAiX2 is... well, they're trying something new all right. The overall gameplay and scoring loop has been overhauled with the new saw weapon Copen got, at least until you get 1000 kudos, at which point you get an arguably better Bullit system from iX1 and just sweeps the rest of the level. I rather like the changes, since it does make you interact more with the levels and mobs instead of just flying over everything like you do in iX1 and GV2. I can't say I like it better than his old system, but it does make for a very different gameplay. That said, there really was no reason to take out his stomp, now you awkwardly cancel your hover instead. EX-Weapons are kinda eh. I still have NO idea what Break Shift is good for. And the gun shoots mini-saws, really? Can't have him bring his actual gun along and keep the saw for melee only? Story is meh and very disconnected from the main games, it's all reploids here instead of adepts. Though it is very reminiscent of MMZ, the way you slice those robots... Looking back after GV3, it's rather strange how both this game and that game could probably be better received if it was literally named anything but iX2 and GV3, both in gameplay and story. They really are just that different from iX1 and GV2 respectively. tl;dr: Get it on a sale if you want I can only assume to be Inti's awkward melee combat experiment before GV3. Impression after 100%-ing the game: This game's fun factor would've been fixed with a simple kudos option in Normal mode. As it is now Normal is too easy and Hard by default is absolutely brutal, there's no balanced difficulty for a comfy playthrough. At least remove the lives in Hard mode, what is a life system doing in my gunvolt game...

This game is great and I recommend it if you are a fan of the Gunvolt series, the level design, bosses, graphics and soundtrack are all perfect here, like in the other titles. In addition, I like the fact that this game is harder than the iX 1. The problem is that I also believe they should not have changed Copen play style. If they wanted a melee combat style, they could have used Blade instead. But regardless, you can still replicate the old style with some limitations (1 dash instead of 3), it's a great game anyways (or using the trick on the edit note). Edit: after some time playing, I realized that you can replicate the old build way better if you use the D-Burst upgrade, unlocked after defeating a DLC boss (Yumo I believe). Go for it, it's a great addition to the game.

This is the worst Gunvolt game ever... Still a 7 or 8 / 10 Switch it to Japanese if you dont want the wholesome Lola/Roro to be voiced by the fiend Morgana

something was in the water in 2022 because inti create decided to make both GV3 and LAIX2 melee-focused, for some weird reason. with all that said, this game is somewhat different from iX 1, due in part to more limited dashing and a default melee attack. most people won't like the changes, especially since iX 1 builds on GV2 but between the more considerate approach to level design and stronger emphasis on overdrive, i reaaaaaaally liked this game. felt more rewarding to master than iX 1 or earlier gunvolt games did. just had a blast from start to finish and eventually would like to go back to try to do some scoring runs. stage design felt improve, controls are as tight as ever, more modular difficulty with effectively infinite healing on normal difficulty for lower scoring - whole package felt great to me and i think it at least warrants a look to see what they tried to do with this game

The game is a pretty fun 2D-platformer with the usual inti-creates vibe that succeeds as a megaman-like but fails as a gunvolt/copen side game, i would get it only if its on sale as it is incredibly short The main thing about this game that will pretty much define if you love it or not is the fact that copen's playstyle has been transformed from its iconic air dashing combos to a more grounded melee approach reminiscent of the megaman Zero days; the bullit dash has been nerfed to 1 dash until touching the ground regardless of if you hit an enemy or not, the only way of chainging dashes in the air is during overdrive (hit 1000 kudos) the story is the weakest part of the game, to the point it may as well not be there making the whole experience feel disconected and inconsecuential to the events of LAiX; this paired with the fact that this is the shortest of the Gunvolt series with few incentives to replay it make it a forgettable entry However, even with the shortcomings of LAiX2 it remains a pretty serviceable platformer to pass the time while also existing as a self contained adventure if youre a fan of the series
