something was in the water in 2022 because inti create decided to make both GV3 and LAIX2 melee-focused, for some weird reason. with all that said, this game is somewhat different from iX 1, due in part to more limited dashing and a default melee attack. most people won't like the changes, especially since iX 1 builds on GV2 but between the more considerate approach to level design and stronger emphasis on overdrive, i reaaaaaaally liked this game. felt more rewarding to master than iX 1 or earlier gunvolt games did. just had a blast from start to finish and eventually would like to go back to try to do some scoring runs. stage design felt improve, controls are as tight as ever, more modular difficulty with effectively infinite healing on normal difficulty for lower scoring - whole package felt great to me and i think it at least warrants a look to see what they tried to do with this game

The game is a pretty fun 2D-platformer with the usual inti-creates vibe that succeeds as a megaman-like but fails as a gunvolt/copen side game, i would get it only if its on sale as it is incredibly short The main thing about this game that will pretty much define if you love it or not is the fact that copen's playstyle has been transformed from its iconic air dashing combos to a more grounded melee approach reminiscent of the megaman Zero days; the bullit dash has been nerfed to 1 dash until touching the ground regardless of if you hit an enemy or not, the only way of chainging dashes in the air is during overdrive (hit 1000 kudos) the story is the weakest part of the game, to the point it may as well not be there making the whole experience feel disconected and inconsecuential to the events of LAiX; this paired with the fact that this is the shortest of the Gunvolt series with few incentives to replay it make it a forgettable entry However, even with the shortcomings of LAiX2 it remains a pretty serviceable platformer to pass the time while also existing as a self contained adventure if youre a fan of the series

While there are many valid reason for iX2 not to be everyone's cup of tea, I must confess I enjoyed this entry quite a bit! It does a lot of awesome stuff that is 100% my kinda jam. - I enjoy Copen's new gameplay immensely! While having only 1 air dash and being forced to get close up to enemies on the ground definitely makes the gameplay a bit slower and more methodical, as a fan of the Mega Man Zero titles especially, I didn't mind this here at all! Dodging attacks from bosses, for example, feels a lot less twitchy and more telegraphed as a result of Copen's more grounded gameplay. - The new EX weapons are really awesome here: they often have a lot of traversal and combat utility, and I feel like I was incentived here to use them more than in iX1 or even Gunvolt 2! - The stages here are excellent! They're colorful (not something I could say about iX1's stages), have a wide variety of obstacles and don't overstay their welcome. - The bosses both have a great design and are consistently fun to fight! - The story, while not on the level of a good VN or JRPG, intrigued me and goes in some very interesting places I didn't expect. - The soundtrack is fantastic; I've already listened to the OST a couple of times since 100%ing the game! - The presentation has taken a big step up from GV1, 2 and iX1 thanks to the better resolution scaling, jump in UI quality and the well done English dub! My one big complaint is the DLC here, more specifically. The extra bosses all look incredible based on some vids I've seen here.... and yet, they're over $40 Canadian dollars altogether, which is more than the main game itself costs without a sale. But disregarding the DLC and just talking about the main game, this was a wonderful time! It may not be fully to everyone's tastes, but if you're a Gunvolt or Mega Man fan, I can highly recommend giving this a shot!

From what I understand; the mixed reviews focus too much on comparing this game to the last few ones and what the game does wrong like changing Copen's playstyle, having the story feel like an excuse for this game's existence, locking the true ending behind hard mode, etc. The story and characters are pretty mid but the gameplay, stages, soundtracks and bosses (not including the dlc bosses) were enough for me to enjoy and play through the game. The change of Copen's playstyle wasn't necessary but it's something I liked. It definitely could've been done better by keeping him as the ranged character and having Blade from the previous game be close-ranged like how Copen is in this one rather than replacing his gun with a chainsaw. I enjoy games that give the player a challenge in which it's up to them to learn the right patterns, learn from their mistakes and using the available resources to succeed and clear the level; this game does just that, especially in hard mode. Hard mode gives you only 2 lives per stage, locks you from healing manually and from using the suit mods you could buy in the normal mode to power up your gear (checkpoints in this game heal you to full hp and they don't disappear in hard mode). If it ends up being too hard, there's an assist mode you can activate when making a save file that gives you access to manual healing and 200 lives. My recommendation is if you're a Gunvolt fan or just care about the story, you're better off skipping this game or looking up a playthrough. If you're just looking for a somewhat challenging, fast-paced 2D platformer with pixel graphics and a bit of anime visual novel stuff on the side then give this game a try. I bought this game here when it was on sale and liked it enough to buy a physical copy on switch and play through the game there.

Honestly, I think Luminous Avenger iX 2 is an alright game. The story are ok, nothing mind-blowing like LAiX1 but still interesting. Copen's play style are different from the last two games he appears in; it's fun, but I had to get used to it. The bosses in this game are quite challenging. The new character, Null is silly. Ypsilon, Copen's rival is ehh. Overall it's an pretty fun game if you want to play as Copen running around with a big pizza cutter. LAiX2 feels like a spin-off of a spin-off.
