I like the gameplay. But I am an old man, and I currently have issues reading all of the text in the game, it's too straining on my eyes as the size is just too small. I would also like to see a scalable interface that I can enlarge for readability purposes. Until that is added, I unfortunately have to park the game.

My brother and I used to play Heroes 2 and 3 with our dad growing up. We spent a lot of hours in the earlier days of this franchise. I can't say for sure that we gave the series much of a chance after Heroes 3, but I can say they weren't what we wanted from the game. Years later, I picked Heroes 3 back up and played it a bit, all the while thinking how nice it would be if game studios actually made games like they used to. Then I saw this, and the name "Olden Era" made me think they they were going back to those games I used to have so much fun with. So I bought it. After playing a while, I absolutely love it. This is exactly what I wanted when I thought of a new version of the old Heroes games I used to play. I have recently been burned by serval squeals games to series I thought there could be no way to fumble, and so I didn't have high hopes for this game. Heroes 3 came out over 25 years ago, and I was playing it in 2026. Maybe I'll be playing this version in another 25 years.

Great ressurection of old HOMM3 , all in all amazing and refreshing but there's one big downside. There is no real RMG and all the preset templates are made for an obsessed competitive market that wants everything to be perfectly balanced and equal so every template map feels like you're forced to play by a strict ruleset of do only this do only that, by week 2 you need to have x and y otherwise the game is already lost mentality. You can't really actually sit and slowly enjoy a normal game where you make mistakes or play what army composition you like, the map forces you to use exactly this spell or this unit combo within this exact time frame to be able to advance further. I hope they get out of this nonsense mentality and give us a true RMG for casual nostalgics to enjoy multiplayer outside the "ladder" market.

First off: HoMM veteran speaking The game is taking massive inspiration from HoMM3 and HoMM5 while adding a lot to the formula. It looks great, the game isn't demanding and it just has a lot of strategy to offer. The good: - fantastic tutorial and challenges for new players to learn some features - a good variety of map templates - Duel mode making a great comeback and getting improved over previous iterations - Act 1 of campaign serves as a decent introduction to the world - A lot of flavor text on everything; the world, maps, battles, everything is filled with personality - New focus system is very intriguing, works pretty well and gives another resource during battles to play with, also implementing unit abilities in a much more balanced way than some other Heroes titles - AI in combat is decent, it will not be easily baited, it plays smart, can pose a tactical challenge - decent faction selection with varying playstyles The bad: - Global AI is... Extremely dumb, multiple times I've seen it run past barely defended towns/armies to go to certain doom. Or running off to open a zone it doesn't intend to enter... Or casually looting stone while my stronger main hero is standing beside them... It seems to be cheating, sure, but for an experienced player, that makes little difference, in fact I'd say it makes it better as the AI isn't exactly the greatest strategic genius in terms of map movement. I would compare the AI global intelligence to that of HoMM5 ai, not very smart and making head-scratching plays. - Would like to see teams added properly into the game - Sometimes it feels like it takes a bit TOO much inspiration from HoMM3, this one is really subjective, a lot of heroes are ported directly over, not the biggest of sins and really down to preference - Making choices in the campaign feels... Rather pointless, it doesn't make much of a difference from what I can tell, nor can I tell if the nation relations has any impact at this point. Overall, for an early access, it already feels like a game that I could sink a few hundred hours into. Looking forward to future expansions to campaign, more factions, more lore, in general just looking forward to see where the game develops.

There are numerous schools of thought on what a new Heroes of Might and Magic game should be. Everyone has their own favorite entry in the franchise and hopes this will be an extension of that specific golden age. In fact, it has become a trend to shamelessly taxidermy the beloved corpses of old games and parade them around in exchange for a big sack with a dollar sign on it. Thankfully, that is not the case here. The game is a great blend of nostalgia and innovation, familiar enough to feel like Heroes , but with enough new ideas to stand on its own two feet.
