Challenging and fun game. Love the puzzles, traps and battles. It takes some time to get used to the mechanics, e.g. only 1 or 2 spells available to casters at a time (unless you take the time to change in the middle of combat which is not recommended). My only complaint is that there seems to be inordinate amount of heavy armor when only a few classes are even able to use it. Not a deal breaker. It is still really fun.

Monkey Tavern is a dungeon crawler that is suitable for people that does not have ample time for puzzles. It is short and it does it job. Even leveling up you have no control on what stats to increase or what skills to pick. It is all auto. There are 8 classes to choose from for players to mix and match but you indeed need a healer for some of the tougher fights as there is no item shop and potions are limited. Very limited. It is not without fault which i feel the DEVs could have done a better job. That is to explain what are the skills functions or limitations.. But i did have fun with this little crawler and it deserve praise. 7/10 for the gameplay and replayability.

Such a fun game, something I was able to play in a weekend. Never wore-out its welcome. There is not a lot of instructions, so I'd recommend checking the guides and dissusion groups, maybe watch some online videos. All-in-all, a simple but fun dungeon crawler, highly recommend.

I guess it plays like GRIMROCK, but it's an easier time, very straight forward game. In different of other games, this one has your 4 man team in a row, so all can hit regardless of weapon and all can and will take hits randomly......so position doesn't matter and weapons held only matter to the class they are equipped to, to make a difference. I very much enjoy the game, it's actually very fun, especially the battle system, move in a cubbyhole, where you can't get flanked and go all out SWINGGING!! There is no need to dodge and kite, actually if you do that, you will loose life as a penalty and die LOL!! I highly recommend this game, A+ I went, Pally/Cleric/Rogue/Fighter, and I had ZERO problems beating it, for I think the game doesn't require a specific member to be a specific class. You could go full 4 Fighters or mages etc, but equipment would be the issue, not enough for 4 same class....I think I'm gonna go another run and change out the Pally for a Mage, that way I take FULL advantage of all the best gear, also, I never had a need for a 2nd healer in the group, even if Pally is a halfass healer =p

You pay for what you get. That said.... For what you get, its a decent enough game and I would give it a go. Its no "Legend of Grimrock" but for the price its quite good. I think a few of the negatives reviews aren't considering the price. Its worth the go for the price. There aren't many first person, grid based dungeon crawlers out there these days. I grew up in the 90s with "Dungeons of the Unforgiven", so for me, this is the type of game I wish Steam had more of and the lack of them makes me thankful for a decently priced game like this one.
