If you enjoy Plants vs Zombies, you'll like this game. Same sorts of mechanics and such, so it's worth buying as a PvZ fan just for that reason. I don't know who these anime characters are but here is my review of the game after completing it. The Good: Lots of towers and power up options. I don't remember exactly how many were in the original PvZ but it feels like you have a lot of options in this one. Also nearly all the plants are recreated 1 to 1 with Calliope being a Squash, Amelia being a pea shooter, Ollie being a sunflower, etc. It's very quick to pick up, play, and enjoy if you know the mechanics, and it's presented in an easy to understand way for those who don't know. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and worth the money to buy. It also includes some minigames in the same vein as the original for a little extra beyond storymode. I also really liked the fact there was a lot of diversity in power (or Cheer I guess) generating units. You had the typical sunflower equivalent that spits them out on a timer, but you also had a really strong one that produces more cheer every time an enemy died in its lane, and some towers that generate cheer when they attack or when even walls that generate it when they get hit. This was creative and new and interesting, although the A-chan one is kind of busted, generating 10s of thousands of Cheer for me in some levels because of the quantity of enemies. I also enjoyed the fact a healing character exists and can heal other towers. That is really neat. Although, it feels a little redundant with the Kiara tower being unkillable. The only other tower I ever use was the Bijou one because it has so much health, but certain enemies kill it in just a couple of strikes anyway so healing it isn't really possible in those cases and you'd, once again, be better off using the Kiara tower just for the fact it comes back AND it'll do a lot of damage before it dies. Although the Bijou tower is still useful of "air" levels with jump/landing areas because the large mechs hit the wall and fall to their death but dont get stopped by other towers. The Bad: I suppose these are minor nitpicks, but despite most plants being recreated 1 to 1 here, there are a few missing that you can really feel the loss of. For example, no equivalent to the Garlic which was a personal favorite of mine and no Spikeweed equivalent. But that's not really that big of a deal, as you can easily beat the game without them. However, some of the characters are very OP in terms of their abilities. Kiara is a great example of this. She is a wall unit and very tough to kill, but she also has a very strong melee attack that does AOE damage so she can hit entire groups of enemies at once in front of her, AND when she is killed, she resurrects in the same place a few seconds later. She also hits flying units with her attack and can fly over water and air and is even immune to ground effects like lava and soda. It's absolutely bonkers how strong this character is, and for only 150 too. The fact she self-resurrects and thus can't be permanently removed has made her my favorite wall and the only one I really use because you never have to worry about losing her, that investment always pays dividends and on some maps, like the conveyor belts, it's the easiest way to win is to use her because all the other towers will inevitably die, but she can't. Another tower that is busted is the Watame character. She fires a laser that hits everything in the whole lane. So basically if you can get 5 of these setup, they will annihilate anything because they hit all targets every single time. Doesn't matter how many enemies come at you, it'll fry all of them at once. AOE in a game like this is very powerful and using towers with unlimited AOE kind of trivializes it. It's an expensive tower, but it's absolutely worth it. Meanwhile, other towers seem entirely pointless to even exist. The La+ tower seems worthless to me. It has the same cost as a Watame tower, at 300, but it fires a non-aoe attack that takes an absurdly long time to charge up. I haven't done the math or anything, but I feel like literally any other tower will get you more bang for your buck. For example, a Roboco tower shooting 4 shots at a time, in the same length of time the La+ one takes to charge up might end up doing similar, or even more damage than the La+ one, which is just baffling to me. I can't think of a single scenario where i'd want to use this tower. Maybe if it one-shot ANYTHING including the cars and big mechs, maybe. And lastly, the enemy variety was unfortunately rather lacking. I like what is there, but it's missing a lot of the enemy variety that made PvZ more challenging such as a robot that will jump over your frontline wall or a robot that digs under the ground and pops up behind your line and then walks in the opposite direction, etc. On water levels, some enemies in PvZ stay submerged until attacking. These different unit types force you to adjust your overall strategy based on what enemies are present, but in this game I found I could just use the same loadout on every level and not have any issue because all the enemies are simply move forward and attack. The most unique one is one that will jump sideways into other lanes, which is interesting, but if you are building symmetrical defenses it really doesn't matter and still doesn't require you adjust your strategy. All in all though, it is a good game and worth the price. It is well done, especially for such a tiny team, and I forgive any nitpicks I have given its price and how small the group was that worked on it. If I could suggest anything for future updates, it would be more enemy variety that forces you to adjust strategy and buffing some towers like the La+ and Kanata that really don't seem to have a reason to exist. The Kanata tower takes waaaay too long to kill anything, even basic enemies, and I get it was modeled after the Chomper plants in PvZ, but when it's competing for use vs so many other far better picks, it just feels worthless. I also wish there were more stages for Endless available.
