Forget the turn-based strategy and the tactical menu-fiddling; Action Unleashed takes the goddesses of Gamindustri and drops them into a high-octane blender of hack-and-slash chaos. This is Neptune’s answer to Dynasty Warriors, and it is exactly as loud, flashy, and ridiculous as you’d expect. I spent my morning playing as Blanc, wielding a giant hammer that feels like it has the weight of a small planet behind it. Unlike the main RPGs, the focus here is on pure, visceral crowd control. You are dropped into an arena with hundreds of monsters—from the iconic Dogoos to mechanical monstrosities—and told to delete them as stylishly as possible. The combo system is surprisingly fluid; you can juggle enemies in the air, dash-cancel out of animations, and trigger "Next-Gen" forms that turn the screen into a kaleidoscopic display of particle effects and high-frequency anime screaming. The game introduces a "Dual Character" system that allows you to hot-swap between two goddesses mid-fight. I found a rhythm of using Neptune’s quick sword strikes to build up a combo meter, then tagging in Vert to clean up the stragglers with massive AOE spear thrusts. It keeps the repetitive nature of the "Musou" genre fresh, especially when you start experimenting with the "Lily Rank" synergies between characters. There is, of course, the "Costume Break" mechanic. As you take damage, your character’s clothes actually tear, which grants a massive boost to your attack and critical hit rate at the cost of defense. It is peak Neptunia fan-service—shameless, over-the-top, and mechanically relevant. It turns a boss fight into a glass-cannon gamble: do I play it safe, or do I let my guard down to unleash absolute carnage? The story is light—mostly framed around two journalists trying to get the "scoop" on the goddesses—but it serves its purpose as a vehicle for the banter. If you’ve ever wanted to see how these characters actually fight when they aren't waiting for a turn-timer to tick down, this is the definitive showcase of their power. 8/10. It’s not a deep philosophical journey, but it is a fantastic power trip. My fingers are tired from mashing the square button, my screen is covered in digital explosions, and Neptune just made a joke about her own spin-off game. Business as usual in Gamindustri.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed is a deliberately lightweight spin-off that trades the series’ usual turn-based RPG structure for a mission-based hack-and-slash brawler. It’s fast, colorful, and packed with the self-aware Neptunia humor, but it’s also clearly built around repetition and fanservice first, depth second. The core loop is simple: pick a character, jump into a small arena-like stage, wipe out waves of enemies, and collect loot before moving to the next mission. Combat focuses on quick strings, launchers, and crowd control, with enemies designed more to be mowed down than meaningfully dueled. It’s satisfying in short bursts, especially when you’re juggling mobs and chaining attacks, but it rarely surprises you once you’ve seen a few mission types. Where the game shines is in letting you play as a roster of familiar Goddess characters and lean into their distinct “feel” in battle. Swapping styles can keep the grind tolerable, and the transformation-powered moments add a bit of spectacle to the routine. If you enjoy tinkering with builds and squeezing efficiency out of short runs, there’s enough equipment and progression to give you little goals between stages. The writing and presentation are what longtime fans usually come for, and U delivers that brand of cheeky, referential banter. Characters break the fourth wall, riff on gaming tropes, and play off each other’s personalities in ways that can be genuinely funny if you’re already on Neptunia’s wavelength. If you’re new to the series, though, the jokes can feel like an inside conversation you weren’t invited to, and the story is more excuse than anchor. As an action game, its biggest weakness is variety. Stages are compact, objectives repeat, and enemy waves blur together, so the experience can start to feel like you’re running the same room with slightly different wallpaper. Difficulty tends to come more from inflated enemy stats and cluttered chaos than from interesting mechanics, and the camera/targeting can be a nuisance when the screen is packed. The fanservice is prominent and not subtle, both in design choices and in the way certain scenes are framed. For some players it’s part of the franchise’s identity and a selling point; for others it will be a hard deal-breaker that overshadows everything else. It’s worth being clear about that upfront, because the game doesn’t try to meet you halfway on tone. Overall, Action Unleashed is best treated like comfort food for Neptunia fans who want a breezy, low-commitment action diversion with familiar faces and jokes. If you’re looking for a deep character-action system or a tightly crafted campaign, it will feel thin and repetitive. If you’re already invested in Gamindustri and just want to mash through missions with your favorite Goddesses, it does exactly that—and doesn’t pretend to be more than it is.

A modest title, yet in a way it captures Neptunia’s pleasant simplicity much better than many later bloated spin-offs. The gameplay is a casual variation of musou games where you fight waves of largely brainless enemies, and the difficulty is just enough to make you feel powerful while still staying engaging (at least if you ignore the level suggestions and keep rotating the characters, which I’d recommend doing). The clothes stripping is certainly quite in-your-face (even if the game lampshades it immediately), though I guess shenanigans like this or humongous titties are inevitable if you play enough anime-style titles. The story is quite empty of substance, but at least it doesn’t waste a lot of your time, and while the postgame is grindy, it is again a rather unobtrusive, relaxing kind of repetition that makes use of the characters’ different playstyles.

This is basically Neptunia X Senran Kagura before the actual crossover. Literally if you love SK like I do, I can't recomend this enough. It's fairly low budget and not too complex, but it has a very great feel to it, and it feels a ton of fun to play. Also characterization is more akin to Re;Birth 1, so if you wanted more of that, get here asap.

another on the go neptunia series i enjoyed so far. Not so shabby in term of grinding, story was interesting, and such. game doesnt take that long to play / beat but atleast the story can be bit feel lengthy but still enjoyable regardless. but the game play mechanic is kinda monotone, unlike on previous hyperdimension series where you need to travel to other area to get items or such. but still recommended from my side. you will never notice *but*
