The story in this game is intriguingly vague and mysterious, which works perfectly to keep you hooked and guessing. The constant question of 'Who is Simon, and do I even want to find him?' lingered in my mind the entire time. By the end, I had more questions than answers, but in the best way possible—the kind that keeps the game lingering in your thoughts long after you’ve finished. The experience isn’t overly long, which I think is a strength. It feels tightly crafted and focused, delivering its unsettling narrative without overstaying its welcome. The gameplay is straightforward, making it easy to dive in and get freaked out without needing to consult a strategy guide. If you’re looking for an atmospheric, thought-provoking horror experience that keeps you on edge, this is definitely worth playing.

I liked that the game was short. I liked how the game explored themes of sadness and grief and loss of a loved one, especially of a child. There wasn't much of a gameplay loop so to speak, but it was a nice isolated experience and I look forward to seeing more from the dev

Is Simon There? A Terrifying Walking Simulator with a Haunting Mystery Is Simon There? is a short indie horror game developed by Stanislaw Truchowski that has quickly gained acclaim since its release on May 6th, 2022. With its immersive atmosphere and chilling narrative, it offers a unique experience for fans of the walking simulator genre. Gameplay and Atmosphere As someone who enjoys walking simulators like What Became of Edith Finch , Gone Home , and Firewatch , Is Simon There? was an enticing find. The game places you in a first-person perspective, waking up to a blaring alarm clock. As you navigate the protagonist’s claustrophobic home, you are haunted by persistent phone calls asking, “Is Simon there?” The unsettling atmosphere is masterfully crafted, with the environment itself contributing to the tension—tall potted plants become unexpected sources of jump scares, and the sense of something lurking in the dark keeps you on edge. Puzzles and Frustrations While the game is primarily a psychological horror experience, it includes some puzzles that can be frustrating due to the lack of guidance. For instance, at one point, you need to find a code to open a safe, but clues for this are elusive. It’s easy to overlook important details when the atmosphere is so intense that staying in one spot feels daunting. Comparisons to P.T. The game's structure and emotional resonance evoke comparisons to P.T. , Hideo Kojima's acclaimed horror demo. Both games share a confined setting, jump scares, and a growing sense of dread that draws you deeper into the story. As you progress, you begin to feel empathy for the protagonist, uncovering their backstory and the unsettling circumstances surrounding their plight. Length and Replayability Though the game is advertised as a 40-minute experience, my playthrough extended beyond that due to the immersive and disorienting atmosphere. Multiple endings and achievements add replayability, encouraging players to explore different narrative paths and uncover all its secrets. Conclusion Is Simon There? is a hidden gem that brilliantly combines horror, walking simulation, and puzzle-solving. If you're a fan of atmospheric horror games that keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat, this title is definitely worth your time. Absolutely recommend! The dev does a great job of building up tension and creepy moments. There are jumpscares but they aren't abused and feel well crafted. The developer does a lot with a little - they utilize a smaller home but alter it in ways that keep it fresh and assist in making the gameplay loop not feel overly repetitive. The few puzzles in the game were refreshing, creative, and well thought out. There is replayability, that is very enjoyable, thanks to there being 3 endings and a checkpoint that you can jump ahead too after your first playthrough. As the story unfolds, it is pretty emotional, especially if you have/had a child. The story unfolds really well and the happier ending is respectful, a bit uplifting, and feels well deserved for the character. Overall score: 8/10 Gameplay & In-Depth Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw1Pqx2g5b8
