Ithya, or at least I presume her name is Ithya, can only have her outfits changed. This doesn't bother me, personally. Note that while I'm going to compare this to its most obvious counterpart, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, it's worth mentioning that Ithya distinguishes itself quite nicely with the gorgeous 2D graphics and fantasy playlists, rather than the usual lofi (though there are a few of those, as well.) You certainly don't have to pick one over the other. I'm outside the norm, in that I often find decorating in games stressful. Having too many options for changing the colours and location of items just makes me anxious, because I'm terrible at designing rooms that look nice, just as I am in real life. So it's a relief that Ithya, with its limited but beautiful pre-coordinated sets and decor, makes it easy for me to create something pretty. In that regard, I much prefer it to trying to make Spirit City's 3D environments look nice, and it makes me more excited to keep unlocking new outfits and furniture to experiment with. Soundtrack-wise, the game helpfully lists what kind of music each playlist contains when you browse them, so it's easy to narrow it down to what you're in the mood for. I like most of the playlists, although I've personally found nearly all of them too distractingly obtrusive to really use as background music. Even if it's just one track that always draws too much attention (hi, lofi Greensleeves), there isn't any way to take that track off a playlist while listening, or even to rearrange the songs, which differs from Spirit City and other similar apps like ChillPulse. In addition, the playlists are so short that the music begins to repeat itself fairly quickly, which can make it grow stale faster than it would otherwise. In general, I would suggest trying a few of the team's fantasy playlists from their YouTube to see if the dramatic songs work for you as background music, assuming you intend to use them that way. (I tend to mute Ithya's playlists when I'm using it and treat it more like a background sound generator, idler and to-do list. Which isn't how it's meant to be used, but hey, there are no rules here.) You also can't customize which ambient sounds you want, or separate them from their environmental effects. Personally, I quite liked that I had to make it rain if I wanted the sound of rain, or unlock a beachside location to get the sound of the ocean in the background; it made the game feel more immersive to me, and it made unlocking new locations a more significant reward. It is, however, yet again one less customization option compared to Spirit City, so I imagine it could potentially be seen as a con by some folks. On the bright side, there's a hugely impressive number of locations to unlock. If you don't mind the soundscape shifting, you can set the game to travel mode and Ithya will bounce between the locations on her own, exploring, which offers a nice variety and lets you check in on her occasionally to briefly admire wherever she's ended up before returning to your tasks. You can nab little elemental spirits in some of these places, too, if you spot them. They'll then come back and hang out on your desk with you at home, although you can't meaningfully interact with them outside of that. Still, it offers a small incentive to keep Ithya travelling or poke around locations you might ignore otherwise. As a final feature to highlight, I quite like the in-game journal, which has separate boxes for you to write notes about your morning, afternoon and evening each day. It also has a separate weekly section that lets you record how each overall day went. You can't expand the text boxes, which means it's better for recording short thoughts rather than full diary pages, but I found it less intimidating than other apps for that reason, and I appreciated how it was organized. TL;DR: If you're on a budget and can only choose one, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions has more customization, more songs, and more frequent updates. However, Ithya's a beautiful, unique addition to the burgeoning productivity companion app genre, and it's still well worth getting if the music and graphics appeal to you.

Every session levels you up, unlocks new locations, weather shifts, and decorative trinkets for your personal study room. Collect shy little Elementals that flutter around your space like living rewards for showing up. What begins as background ambience slowly reveals its quiet philosophy. This isn’t another gamified Skinner box demanding your constant input. It’s a meditative companion that respects your flow—leave it running while you work, return to find your mage has wandered to a new vista, your room feels a little more lived-in, and the gentle ambient sounds (rain on leaves, crackling fire, distant chimes) have kept the real-world noise at bay. The dark humor lies in how honest it is about productivity: we need pretty pictures, pleasant music, and fake progress bars just to sit still long enough to do the thing. Even magic requires discipline, and even discipline needs magic. The art is genuinely soul-soothing—warm, detailed, human-made illustrations that never feel mass-produced. Playlists shift between chill lofi and sweeping fantasy without ever grating. The productivity tools (task lists split into main/side quests, habit tracker, journal) feel thoughtfully integrated rather than tacked on. Some will call it “just a fancy timer with pretty backgrounds,” and they’re not entirely wrong. But that’s the irreverent beauty: sometimes the deepest interactive art is the one that stops pretending to be a grand epic and simply creates a better place to exist while you try to become something. Ithya: Magic Studies never lectures you about focus or growth. It just lights the candles, queues the perfect playlist, and lets the little mage wander while you do the same. In a world that screams for your fractured attention, this gentle spell of a game whispers: sit down, breathe, begin again. 10/10 would study another semester in the enchanted realms tomorrow. My wife stumbled on this and we both immediately downloaded it, so happy it exists!! We are longtime fans of Blue Turtle, the beautiful environments and relaxing music have basically become our living room's permanent ambiance. We have our favorites downloaded as video files because YouTube is a pain in the butt for that kind of thing, so you can imagine how thrilled we were to come across this game with tons of new landscapes, travel mode, cute little Elementals, and all kinds of other goodies. Hoping we get the snowed-in seaside cottage for the next winter update!
This game is getting me through a Master's in Education. Pomodoro timer + Set a "finished by" sidequest for bonus points, and my wandering mind can actually focus for a bit. I leave her in travel mode, and occasionally spy a nature spirit out of the corner of my eye. Thanks for making this!
